Comic is pretty good, I'm suprised with the quality of art he's putting out in such a short period between each panel. I'm actually kinda stealing the whole Yinglet thing to replace Kobolds in my D&D campaign.

All Yinglets are 110% gay. It's how their species makes due in between mating cycles. On sweet sweet rat boi-pussy.

Also I think that blush is for the big strong arms of Elim.

>>84471485
I wouldn't say that. Actively prettying up and seeking possibly long-term partnership seems to be pretty normal for their culture. Unless I missed more detail besides that.
>>
So the prologue was 38 pages long.

Is this current chapter going to be wrapping up somewhere within the next 10 pages, or will this turn out to be not a chapter format series?
>>
>>84472008
>Unless I missed more detail besides that.
The part where females only make up like a tenth of the population.
Opportunistic, anon. They're prison gay. If the gender divide was 50/50 their culture wouldn't have evolved the way it has.
>>
>>84472210
There's nothing for me to think that they aren't naturally more inclined that way as well considering that fact. "Prison" gay for a long time -> more open to gayness in general.
>>
>>84472262
Are you the same anon? Because this is diverging from the original point of contention. Which was:
>All Yinglets are 110% gay.
No, they aren't. Its's not even a matter of missionary position intercourse for the sole purpose of procreation, we've SEEN male yinglets lusting after females. The proposition was/is that Fancy Lad wouldn't.
>>
>>84472003
Goddamnit.
>>
>>84472395
>>All Yinglets are 110% gay.
Nah not me, I don't think that at all, simply what I stated - I think it's much more likely for any given yinglet to be down with homo it because it's sort of been bred into them by that point and is also pretty openly a thing in their culture, so there's no stigma if they're down for both genders.

>>
>>84472003
Once they breed that adaptation in, Yinglets will rule the world.

Also be employed as couriers and scouts, giving them a useful talent.
>>
You already know about sex, Kass. What nerve-wracking nonsense is being conveyed here then, that could elicit that reaction? Or is he only now comprehending that he's possibly gonna be on the other end? And that it's gonna be gross bird-rat junk?

I choose to believe there's something more bizarre than that. The unspeakable anatomy of yinglets.
>>
>>84472701
She may have been explaining how males have sex with each other, or maybe the realization "I have a vagina, I am going to go into heat then lay eggs" hit him.

Or maybe just imagining Yinglets having sex at all.
>>

>>84472608
I think they'd need to deal with the whole accident prone thing yinglets seem to have before they attempt to breed gliding flaps
>>
>>84472832
They lays clutches of 4 to 8 eggs.

That was revealed in one of the field guide pages.
>>
>>84470706
Yeah I wish I wasn't burned out from DMing, with the amount of neat facts about the yinglets in the comics you can easily adapt them as a custom race
>>
>>84472832
Author confirmed they lay aggs and breastfeed. They fuck a lot of favorable males, the genes mix in their body (this is something that exists in real life, in a lizard I think?) and they lay about 4 eggs. Females raise females, all the males of the group raise males.

They begin to lose the ability to fertilize their eggs more and more as they get older, but don't lose their social position from it. The Matriarch is close to that age where it will start.

I admit to nothing. I'm innocent, I tells ya. I mean I may have tried to greentext something that fit with the "little rapidly-mutating idiots" theme of the yinglets, but that didn't mean I wanted to spawn the horrors that followed...
>>
>>84472701
One of the field guides after the page in your post implies that males have specialized genitalia specifically meant to accommodate other males.

To get more specific on this, their species mostly sees it as a "sex for enjoyment/companionship" vs "sex for procreation" think, especially as hard as enclave culture drills that into them.

While they're expected to turn to each other for companionship, they might also get called into the enclave to perform the duties necessary to keep the species alive.

But of course there's always those who do all they can to get chosen to breed with females, males that prefer to play catcher with the others, and everything in between.

So they tend to have more experience with other males, but if/when they answer the Matriarch's call, they tend not to have any problems getting excited about the females.

And on a somewhat related note, one anon came up with this idea, then reached out for a commission, which I couldn't turn down because if he didn't pay me for it I would've just drawn it myself.

Yinglets seem to have some sort of innate connection to the 80's.

>>84472565
Lately, I've been able to stick to a week-and-a-half schedule, so no worries about month-long waits.

Great to hear the comparison to crack though, because if I'm gonna deal crack, I want to be dealing the good stuff.

>>
>>84473773
Incest is probably something that occurs regularly if there's only a small number of females, any with desireable traits mate with them, and they mate with plural males each time.

That's probably why they seem to migrate so much. Rural Enclaves pull females from larger Envlaves, and nobody cares where lower class males wander to.
>>
>>84473848
That female is fixated on males. Two out of her three lines involve them.

That anon is implying she is in heat but not allowed to mate right now.
>>
>>84473944
The matriarch's job is to prevent inbreeding. She has to obsess over who sired who.

Also, the enclaves do swap their girls around sometimes to make sure that does not happen and to keep the gene pool strong.
>>
>>84473993
And oh boy do they need to keep the Gene pool strong, with how easily the new generations mutate they don't want to sprinkle incest defects on that
>>
>>84473014

>>

I like the fire forged brothers, willing and ready to come down like a sack of hammers on anyone who attacks the other.

Pages 5 and 19 of the current chapters are great for showing how much they care about each other.

You're kind of right. However if you want to go real over-analyzing psychoanalyst then his bossiness, if emotional, would also be more indicative of his acknowledgement of his lack of control (and sleep) over what's happened, as well as whatever his new body is telling him. Probably something matriarchal.

>>
Are yinglets for eating? Would the meat be very stringy?
>>
>>84474523
The soap smells pleasantly of citrus, but Val says that touching a yinglet who's been sloppy and failed to scrub it all out of their fur can be A Bad Thing, yes.
>>
>>84474166
>>84474136

Since we know they mix the traits of multiple father's in reproduction, it's safe to assume that reproduction involves a gene-splicing mechanism. The would make the high rate of mutation not be from mutation of the genes themselves, but from the interaction of diffrent genes and misplacement of genes during the splicing. So there is a reason to have healthy genes despite a high mutation rate in the species.
>>
>>84474881

As a generality, yeah, but there are absolutely people in real life that could tell you that certain dragons are more attractive than others, and why.

Most humans don't see much to like in yinglets, but yinglets sure spend a lot of time thinking about humans, being all powerful, long-lived geniuses and all that.

I'd reply to every single comment if I had the time, though it's finally come to the point where that's hard to keep up now.

And then they tie his foot to the mast because he keeps leaping from the crow's nest.

Eventually it gives him the idea for the "Bangy Jump", a new and popular yinglet pastime whereby you jump from a high wooden post with a rope tied to your ankles and then bang your head against it as you swing inwards. Fortunately for yinglet participants, their lower body mass means the impacts rarely cause more than mild concussions and "spinny heads".

I do wonder if cutting to what's happening with the other characters might break the flow of the comic.

If it cuts to what Isher and Yannit have been up to while this has been happening after Kass is finally taking the hour power nap his biology demands of him, would that break the flow too much by changing focus? Would another "I've had an interesting morning" type of situation not break the flow?

Not really something I have any business being concerned about since Val has proven to not skimp on sticking to his narrative, but it does feel like the other characters will probably need some attention soon.

>>84482775

The current plot is about a human dude that gets unexpectedly turned into a pathetic little rat looking thing, and he's dealing with the problems that cause. Overall tone is fairly light-hearted and fun, but not annoyingly so. Interesting world building. Some exploring of interactions between different sentient species.
>>
>>84484039
SAPIENT species.

So it's just furry TF trash?

No thanks.
>>
>>84484728
Yes, it's pretty much furry TF trash. He even turns into a she, and starts feeling interested in the dudes. Also, the shes are supreme sluts that fuck multiple dudes, with some possible BDSM shit going on with the supreme bitch controlling all heterosexual fucking. It probably involves standing in the background with a whip or something, except half the time, it hits itself, and the other half of the time, it hits a candle and sets everything on fire.

The art is getting better and the writing isn't half bad, but the subject matter and "mirrored on furaffinity" thing are never, ever going to go away. Kudos to the author for resisting the urge to include wolf/dog girls. For now.

For some reason, fans become very obsessive. Obsessive over scubs. That shouldn't last long though, because the author has reportedly decided to move on from the scublets and write about other things for a few chapters after seeing the horror zhe wrought.

It's not funny, it's pretty fucking bad actually.

Hey Val, I saw some anons on /trash/ critiquing your work, and I believe it belongs here, so:
>I know faces are hard to draw, but I sort of think this guy needs to work on his technique for them a little. I mean they're not bad, but I can't help but feel they're this comic's weakest point artistically.
>I'm not sure if it's the perspective or something else that's off, I can't quite put my finger on it.
>Does anybody agree or am I just being overly fussy? I realize you can't be too critical when you're getting entertainment for free.

>He's amazingly inconsistent with muzzle length, as well as with drawing the cheekbone on the far side. He really enjoys profile shots and 3/4 shots and has only done a front on view once.
>Kass's hair is drawn in several different ways. he should probably try making himself modelsheets so he can have a more consistent look for the characters he draws the most.
>However, the comic is so enjoyable I really don't care about that.

>My nitpick is the heights of the characters, I swear the Yinglets are growing and shrinking between panels, somewhere between 3-4ft and sometimes above/below belt lines of the people around them
>>

Keep going where, spookmaster fakeout supreme? Do you think this is a fucking joke? The joke isn't here, it's in the comic. The comic doesn't have any jokes in it per se, but it is one.

W-what if she adopts the Enclave as a "hive"?

>>84485579
Fetish-stuff in a comic doesn't necessarily have to be bad, and an artist's kinks can sometimes be part of the foundation for a better story. There's a difference between how TF is being incorporated in this story, where there's actually a character arc as opposed to the rest of the plot just being lewd for lewdness' sake (although Oglaf combines lewd with plot for ribald comedy).

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I respect the artist for their creation, and that the inclusion of their possible kinks into the story doesn't really seem to detract anything but rather makes it a wholly unique creation.

Like if I could do the same thing with my kinks I would.

Fluffy Yinglet is best yinglet, no exceptions to this rule.
>>
So is "yinglet" created from this webcomic?

I'm not gonna pretend that there aren't people who do find TF stuff to be high grade fap material, but I've had a completely platonic interest in transformation for the longest time so I can see where the author might be coming from.
However, so far the comic has stayed mostly focused on Kass' issues acclimating to his new form and constant worldbuilding, so whether or not the person writing this stuff gets off to it is pretty irrelevant since it doesn't seem to be affecting the story negatively.
Now if the person doing the comic could just find a way to draw humans that looked well stylized instead of a failed attempt at realism.
>>
>>84486198
>W-what if she adopts the Enclave as a "hive"?
Well, I don't think Val wanted to focus entirely on the Yinglet's forever.

Yannit, now that she is an employee of Ivenmoth, would consider Ivenmoth her hive. She already considers her friends her pack

That's been brought up before.

She's spent the better part of a day alone in Isher's place and seems no worse off mentally for it, so Indrel probably just need a sense of purpose or belonging to keep from going crazy.
>>
>>84489138

what if indrel was already crazy, making mouth noises and idolizing pinkmen
>>
>>84486296
>>84486198
That's a good way of describing the balance I'm trying to strike here; I'm including TF as a theme in this story, but it's there for storytelling purposes, rather than fap material. (There's always commissions for that)

The yinglets are a lot of fun to draw, but I can't say I've ever looked at them as fap material; they just weren't designed with that in mind, so I can't get myself to start thinking of them that way now.

But hey, if someone does, then I'm glad I could provide the enjoyment!

>>84485086
Yeah, these are pretty much all legitimate critiques; character consistency and human heads/faces are both at the top of the need-to-improve list.

Admittedly, most comics have been drawn in a state of "Crap, it's been almost a week and I haven't started the next page; gotta crunch this one out fast. Oh wait Elim's in this one, I should probably do some head studies before I... NOPE, no time, just get those sketches laid down already"

Between IRL work and the usual Life stuff, time is my most limited resource right now, which is the main reason I haven't been able to give this comic all the attention it deserves.

That, and I'm still mulling over some of the character designs, so I didn't want to lay down reference sheets until I found the exact style I want to stick with. It's probably past time to do that now, though.

>>84485231
People keep telling me about these threads, like some sort of impromptu spy network. And I do feel pretty flattered that some people are interested in this comic enough to post questions and comments about it, so I'd reply to every one if I could. If that was the case he'd have no interest in Kass or Yinglet society, he'd only be interested in those "relics".

Plus, Kass's eye color changed when he did from the most common human color to the most common Yinglet color, brown to yellow.

So transformation wouldn't affect eye color.

"Farming(??)". We see from the exterior shots that they have no farms, and only have primitive aquaculture infrastructure.

We know wearing lots of blue, being fancy, and having a short snout all mean catching.

Also, someone last thread said exactly the same thing and Val responded that he/she was glad someone caught that.

Currently, they need a Patriarch for carpentry/engineering but don't have ine, which is why everything but the female's lodge looks so shoddy. Instead they have a Patriarch of farming who does not actually do any farming because no farms have been set up.

Though you're encouraged by patreon to have higher tiers with more incentives, there's no obligation at all if it doesn't suit your style.

I've actually been wondering how they deal with the cold, or being far from a coast or body of water.

Do the colder ones need better structures? Do they hunt larger animals for meat and leather?
Do they have a system of logging?

Worth noting that a good thatched-roof cottage is amazingly efficient at warmth and can even be made flame-retardant to an extent with medieval techniques, although it takes skill and knowhow to do plus has to be redone every spring.

Females seem to vary greatly in intelligence from slightly above male to human level.
In many primitive human cultures, weaving isn't a strictly feminine talent so much as it is one for whoever doesn't have a full-time job. The elderly, priests/shamans, storytellers, anyone who doesn't pull a 6-10 hour day hunting or fishing or cutting wood.
In fact, in many cultures like the Inca and Pacific Northwest Indians, anyone with a job like a shaman or storyteller is expected to weave because the blanket you wrap a baby in tells of their lineage, or the cape for a hunter tells the story of the creation of animals.

So females being weavers is likely, not because they're girls but because its the only way they probably know to record their history. We saw the lodge entrance has some banners showing what looks like a story.
>>
>>84496780
I've purposely been holding off on that until now to keep the city in a sort of "this is our part of the world, everything else seems faraway and irrelevant" feel, but like the Patreon thing, it's become very clear recently that it would be a good thing to make.

I've always been a fan of Terry Pratchett/Discworld's method of avoiding maps, hard statistics and such, because it makes any place the story's taking place seem like a little world in itself, where everything outside of it feels like an unknowable, faraway place. (But then I saw that a real map was actually/finally made of Ankh-Morpork at some late point in Pratchett's life and the illusion was shattered)

>>84496836
That's exactly it; at first I avoided it because I was unsure I could keep up a steady pace, so hearing about the "pay when content is released, not on a time-based schedule" thing was what made me think, "Okay, I could probably do this then."

And likewise, I get all anxious about not being able to produce high-tier reward drawstuff fast enough to keep the comics coming at a steady pace, but apparently that's not a requirement either.

>>84496841
They actually... really don't. Yet.

Right now they're still very dependent on nearby bodies of water, and Enclave development southward is at a bit of a halt until the southern-most ones have a few generations to adapt to the cold.

That can always change, given enough time to adapt, but they're still very early on in their development.
>>
>>84497103
Really? I'm the opposite, I prefer paying for what is created specifically. Makes every page seem a bit better, like "I bought a copy of this".
>>
>>84497202
>And likewise, I get all anxious about not being able to produce high-tier reward drawstuff fast enough to keep the comics coming at a steady pace, but apparently that's not a requirement either.
Most artists who aren't interested terribly in that whole aspect will just have a little-bit-higher tier where they put up the highest res versions of things up for download, or maybe source files. Just a small extra thing.
>>
>>84497277
Kennoarkkan kind of cheats by having streams of new pages, and porn comics behind the paywall.

Towerfag uses a system where people can vote for some content, and the higher the tier the more your votes count. But that's a video game rather than a comic.

Tom Siddel doesn't really bother, you just pledge whatever.

I can't remember if Morbi has tiers.

Here's what I mean about blankets telling a story.

Also, that's why totem poles (something only coastal Indians really did, since they had permanent settlements) look as they do. They tell a story sort of, or at least accompany one. Like a comic page showing the cast in order of appearance, its a visual representation of who is in the story that goes with the pole.

I never wanted to be an artist and I dont claim my self to be one.

I only wanted to be able to materialize what cannot be photographed
(as I started to visit zoos to make my own references what I could never actually be able to use inthe same time when I started to "draw".)

I dont enjoy drawing, maybe the one exception were when I drawn Vizlet and felt like I can do it and done it, but then zero cares.

There is a point when you just stop, no enjoyment, no being able to fallow advices by humble artist whom lower themselves to give you advices, no reactions from audiences on your work...

It all just makes a feel like its now working, no matter what you try.

Again I should not be here, but Im drunk. Val did it and can do it, and I can lay back and wait and enjoy the next page of OoP.

So basically, this started with me thinking about Kass' insecurity. Firstly, he's smaller, weaker and is very likely feeling alienated and certainly uprooted from his life, and very possibly feeling semi-alienated from his few friends as well even though he still can rely on them. His body is telling him more yinglets things, and he's physically intimidated by his former peer humans, and no longer sees them as such, and doesn't really feel at ease with yinglets either. All these facts lead to a very heavy overhanging sense of unfamiliarity and fear, which leads to a common natural response in most species - when you are removed from your familiar environment, and the familial unit which you trust, you subconsciously (or consciously) have a shift in priorities pushing you to create a new familial unit which starts by finding a mate, even if you don't realize you're thinking about kids. This combined with him being smacked in the face by his new female mind could very likely create a perfect storm where he desperately seeks partnership in the one person he trusts above all others, if the "straw" to break his back comes at the wrong time. We've already seen small signs of him cracking against his own will.

This leads me to think Emil could be stuck between a rock and a hard place, neither being attracted to yinglets nor seeing his friend that way but still being bonded to him very deeply, and it could turn into an incredibly awkward thing that strains the hell out of their relationship. Kass just becoming a total trainwreck as the situation slowly catches up to him is not a fun mental image nor is it fun to imagine his best bro in that position, however this is purely conjecture based on a rather narrow and perhaps overly typical realist analysis. In the end no matter how mindfucked from every angle Kass could be I like to think he still has a chance, and this is a story being dictated after all.

The species barrier is way bigger here than the gender barrier. I can't really see him suddenly being interested in human dudes just because he's a female yinglet now. Yinglet gender expression isn't even that similar to humans' anyway.

But the idea of Kass having horrible embarrassing feelings about Elim is hilarious. I really wonder what he'd do to try to help Kass.

It's not even a question of gender or species so much as "I'm hella fucking insecure so I'm latching onto what I can and I don't even understand why I want it". It also plays off the notion of his mind being sandwiched between a human one and a yinglet one.

Kobolds are the largest one I can think of, they run a sort of weird gamut between lizard and dog traits (many japanese interpretations just look like 5ft dogmen, while the most lizard-like DnD interpretations look like tiny wingless dragons, but most are something undefined and in between.)

Same. Can't wait to post yet another long winded analysis/theory. I'm downright ravenous to see where this goes.

/trash/ thread is still alive tho.

The current one?

Fix that ASAP.

Please don't make a new thread til next update, guys

Don't let this become Prequel 2.0
>>
>>84507851
That's not possible. Prequel threads are a problem because 3 months to an update is freakishly fast.
>>
>>84507872
The issue is that there is nothing to talk about

We'll burn out and the threads will devolve into nothing but nasty yinglet sex. Even more than they are now
>>
>>84507896
You wish.
>>
>>84507914
Hey, I said I'm against more threads without updates

We need to ease gently into more nasty yinglet sex, not just dive in,
>>
>>84507929
My point was still that Prequel threads, even with a month between updates were not a problem. Because people never made them until the updates went too long.
>>
>>84507941
What? Yeah they did. All the time. We'd have one every week. Its actually died down a lot since Kaz died or w.e
>>
>>84507972
Not really. There were like, 2 threads per update.
>>
>>84507987
The fact you could also discuss TES lore was part of that.
