Only shit Bastion players stay in one place. The advantage of Bastion over Torbjorn is that it has almost no set-up time in comparison to the autoturret. Once you get a few kills, you can stand up and move to a new position so you can catch the other team from a fresh angle. With Torbjorn, setting up in a new position can be a hassle.

Honestly, I think it doesn't work as well for Overwatch as it does for TF2. TF2's story (at least until the Mann v Machine stuff) is literally "These two morons hire a team of mercenaries to blow each other up over entirely worthless pits of gravel because they are morons and the industry behind everything just want a perpetual war." It was a joke and purposely made all the conflict meaningless with characters who are likable but are morally reprehensible so we don't feel bad seeing them get blown up.
Overwatch doesn't do that and makes clear allegiances with good and evil characters but all that doesn't matter now because we need to stand in the middle of this point in Nepal because reasons.

You need to set up in better places if that's your experience. You can be a good Bastion without support quite easily if you keep your wits about you and watch out for people trying to range you. Map familiarity is key as you need to minimise the number of angles the other team can approach you from, and have somewhere nearby to duck into to heal if need be.

id say the characters are barebones just so the audience can fill in with whatever they want and make the game their own, is a different way of making characters. it wouldnt work in a comic or a book or a movie but i think is great for a game.
characters like freeman, chell, frisk nd other silent types barely have a personality but that lets the player write its own story when playing them. now we can have a mercy who is a compassionate mother, a salty bitch, a stressed helper, etc.
if we tried and put a strongly defined personality players would feel constrictied in what they can do with the character.
again, not traditional but beffiting for a game that doesnt really have a plot anyway

Well Overwatch was supposed to be an MMO, so it makes sense that they would just steal a bunch of cliches and rip off other settings since they do the same with WoW.
Hell the only reason Overwatch has any story to begin with is because they probably didn't want to throw out all the shit they had written. That's why there's so much damn backstory but almost none of it really appears in the game.

But that's fucking stupid for a multiplayer game like Overwatch that's built on a bunch of different characters. Take TF2 for example, they don't have a lot of lore (at least at first anyway) but each character is brimming with their own unique personality with every aspect of their character. Overwatch is the inverse of this, playable characters have a fairly concrete backstory but the characters themselves are blander than dry saltine characters.

So I've made a point of getting good with him and learning the maps to facilitate that. I've developed a good sense of what I can get away with and what I can't, and when to bail on a turret spot or just straight-up switch out of him. He's helluva situational and has a lot of counters. Not really. It plays very differently. Teams and maps are a lot smaller, you move slower, and there's static team sizes, it's not like in TF2 where you can join whenever in the match and teams get rebalanced and everyone just sort of does their own thing. Let's look at the history of her work. Some of her earliest known work was when she revived Genji from a near(?) death state as a cyborg. Effective, but there were some quality of life issues after. It's also very likely that she tried to save Gabriel Reyes after the explosion with an advanced tissue regeneration treatment, but it went wrong and it turned him into Reaper where he's in a Deadpool like state where his tissue is constantly dying and regenerating.
What was this leading up to? Well, one of Mercy's emotes is No Pulse, where she tries to take her own pulse and seemingly fails. Mei, who was in cryosleep for years, comments that Mercy hasn't aged a day. Other material also points out that she doesn't look her true age. Has Mercy turned herself into a nanotech lich? As for a personal reading of the tone I feel it very much shares a lot with cape comics in tone. They will have serious moments but everything is just so fantastic, even during the serious moments and the serious moments are typically the exception. It's a bit of comedy here, a sprinkle of srs bizness there, you have robot racism, a mother daughter dynamic, you have a mutated gorilla and robots monks. It's a mess and the tone is all over the place. TF2 is a comedy, and that's it. Overwatch is trying to pull a Hollywood and have a little bit for everybody, and that makes it fun for a while but ultimately leaves it shallow.

depends on what you want out of it.
If you were one of the people that played tf2 competitively and never ventured outside 6v6 servers, you'll probably dig overwatch.
However, if you're like me and never played on a server with less than 20 players, there's a good chance it's not for you (at least not the primary game mode). Blizzard copied a lot of stuff from TF2 when designing overwatch, but they brought so much moba shit into the mix that the tf2 elements have been lost, and the biggest aspect of mobas that overwatch has is a similar community. Everybody thinks you suck, nobody talks despite wanting to win, and everybody wants to win because blizzard are really pushing the competitive aspect of the game, so it's pretty much no fun allowed in competitive mode (though there's 2 game modes that are more relaxed).
