Let's see if King does anything this issue
Tim Sale variant
>>84293292
Make everything a metaphor for iraq?
>>84293313
probably
>>84293323
Oh hey its Grundy. And he isn't dressed like he's going to a Goth Club meeting.

CLONE YOURSELF
We know you want to.
Just finished reading it. Before all the shitposting gets in here, I have to say it's much better than #1. Definitely paced like a weekly book right now but the writing is picking up. Not a fan of Finch's art but hopefully Janin and other fill-ins will resolve that issue.
King writes a great Alfred and Gordon, too. Overall, not too shabby.
I thought Gotham man and Gotham Girl wanted to take down Batman
Now they're all buddy buddy?
>>84293382
>the Morrison room
In before shitstorm.
>>84293415
There's always time for TWEEST where we see they're all evil men.
>>84293424
Do people still not realize he's Batman?
>she isn't wearing anything under the skirt
>>84293453
I love that Gordon is no longer impressed by people flying and just doesn't give a fuck anymore.
>>84293453
is this motherfucker seriously pretending he wasn't Batman for like a couple of in-universe months?
>>84293432
Bruce, you fucking weeb
>>84293382
Alfred is always great
As predicted. The end. Any thoughts so far?
>>84293444
What did you expect? This is David Finch we're talking about
>>84293509
>Waller is pudgier
YES YES YES
>>84293509
This >>84293478
suggests to me that Gotham is simple-minded in some way.
>>84293444
Are they flying?
>>84293509
I honestly don't know what to think of King's run. The only thing I could say is that I'm not impressed so far.
>>84293509
General dude is someone you guys recognize or brand new generic militaryman?
>>84293509
eh. not a huge fan of his bruce. his gordon is alright I guess but I preferred snyder's desu
>>84293585
>lane
it's lois's dad
>>84293585
I think that the "Lane" nametag would have been a huge fucking clue.
>>84293600
>>84293612
I missed the obvious.
>>84293509
>Strange
>Waller
>The Army
>Monster Men
This is gonna be great
>>84293496
>>84293509Psycho Pirate?
>>84293301
why is the variant so much cooler than the normal cover? Goddamn, why is Sale stuff hidden like that. A tragedy, I'd say.
>>84293628
Definitely looks like it
>>84293509
I hope this strange is as good as the one in Gotham
>>84293397
does he normally smoke out of a pipe? seems weird, especially in doors
>>84293628
>Roger
yep
>>84293509
Pretty, pretty good. Slow, but satisfying.
>>84293628
Could well be. Good catch
Overall decent. Love the colours even if the art's not so great
>>84293677
Could have sworn he didn't, but I guess it's (slightly) healther than the alternatives. As long as he doesn't start fucking vaping.
>>84293509
this is the first the from King I haven't liked
fuck
I'll give him two arcs
but will he even last?
>>84293677
Gordon used to smoke a pipe in the early Batman comics, as it was pretty fashionable at the time. Then it became smoking cigarettes when pipes stopped being trendy.
>>84293740
Nothing really happened...
>>84293728
If he goes True Detective 2 it'd be classic
someone asks him to vape
"nah not for me, its like sucking Cyborg's dick."
>>84293740
What's the problem, not pandering enough with man-service like Grayson?
>>84293756
exactly
compared to his other titles it seems just light
and compared to other Rebirth titles it's not doing much either
>>84293524
Most satisfying thing in this arc thus far.
>>84293765
Grayson is my least favorite work from him actually
I think Seeley is the reason is was so fan servicey
but Omega Men was really good, Vision has been amazing, I really like Sheriff of Babylon too
just not super feeling like there's much of his voice in this
maybe he's staying safe while setting up a status-quo to subvert it later but right now it's not what I expected King to do with the coolest gig in comics
>>84293780
It's a slow burning story, primarily setting up stuff. It's like Sheriff of Babylon in that regard.
>>84293809
but the Sheriff is a page turner and this just isn't.
>>84293377
>having this much self doubt
I don't like King's Batman's voice desu.
>>84293382
>Morrison room
Kek
I like this Alfred.
>>84293808
>I think Seeley is the reason is was so fan servicey
I pretty sure it was King and Janin fault. I mean, just look at what they did with Bruce in the rebirth issue.
>>84293382
Is that the room where every body takes LSD and shaves thier heads?
>>84293488
I shouldn't be rolling my eyes at this. There should be better ways of making Batman senpai-material.
>>84293819
Babylon started out slow and then escalated. Same thing will happen here as we come nearer to the Monster Men crossover and shit starts to go down.
>>84293496
>going from Capullo to this
JUST
>>84293509
Holy shit Based. This issue was definitely better than first but pacing is still very sluggish for a King book.
>>84293357
>You were letting him get too far
>But you would've caught him anyway
What's his problem?
>>84293525
He's not Gotham. But I get where you're going with this.
>>84293949
>pacing is still very sluggish for a King book.
I don't know, Omega Men felt far more sluggish to me until around issue three or four.
>>84293819
>>84293911
Eh. Sheriff was still pretty engrossing, and it featured some great visual techniques to make the "slow" parts exciting and even some cool narrative techniques.
Batman is, so far, exceedingly straightforward. Honestly, I think King is playing it WAY too safe with his use of comic technique, as opposed to just writing from his heart as he did with Grayson and with his other comics.
Part of me thinks it's because his other books sold like shit so he thinks the average audience can't handle a little sophistication. But it's a bit silly: of all places, he should be writing as weird as hell with Batman because the book will sell regardless AND it'll differentiate him from other runs automatically, nevermind plot.
>>84293951
He literally explained it. He would have caught him, but not before that homeless got trampled
>>84293951
He wasn't going to catch him in time
>>84293338
This is why I hate Batman nowadays.
>>84293951
The homeless man was gonna get killed. Avoiding civilian casualities should be a priority for every hero
>>84293971
At least it was smart, characterization was on point. Here King offers nothing. Honestly if this was some other guy I'd have given this 8.5 but by King's standards, this feels meh.
>>84293382
>Inc. costume
PUT IT BACK ON
>>84293984
You're forgetting Rebirth titles are meant to pander old school fans who didn't like New52. It's pretty clear they've chosen to do a very traditional Batman for the time being, to get people to stick to it, which is entirely fine. It's still Batman, King is a reliable writer and so far it's entirely readable, clearly building to a Monster Men event. Not being amazing right off the bank is hardly as big of an offense if you have any patience.
>>84293873
Isn't Seeley known for T&A comics?
>>84293488
I fucking hate that Batman is goddamn magic.
>>84294010
>characterization was on point. Here King offers nothing
Gordon and Alfred's characterization is pretty damn good here, how come you're dismissing it in Batman but praise Omega Men for doing the same?
>>84294067
>Gordon
eh
>>84294033
>wanting a shit costume with a shit glowing symbol sticking out half a foot
>>84293509
Props to that anon that called this after the first issue.
>Redoing the Monster Men
>Again
I thought rebirth was going to save us from this shit.
>>84294140
the whole point is nostalgia pandering as hard as possible. for fucks sake superman's books are doing reign of the supermen
>>84294140
The monster men are actual monsters now, not just giants with hairy arms and long fingernails
>Batman being able to mentally calculate a tenth of a second
>Bruce not trusting Alfred because of a birthday present
>Batman being op as fuck
>"nothing is impossible he's Batman"
I'm starting to hate this run.
>>84293382
>Morrison Room
>250 backwards

>>84294158
>actual monsters now

>>84294190
Those are just proto-metahumans, you pleb.
>>84294169
I fucking guess
>>84293495
Probably but his Batman was always part of the police force
>>84294173
Fuck
>>84294169
>Bruce not trusting Alfred because of a birthday present
It was a joke
>>84293645
it has to be cooler or nobody would buy it
>>84294201
the one girl had a lizard hand
>>84294169
>>Bruce not trusting Alfred because of a birthday present
Are you as mentally defective as Gotham? That was just Alfred talking shit like Alfred does, retard.
>>84294169
>Bruce not trusting Alfred because of a birthday present
It was a joke you autist
>>84294067
Ehhhhhh. Kyle's take in Omega Men was wholely new, Batman isn't. Unless King can offer that in Batman or at least strong enough characterization, I won't accept it. Honestly nobody since Morrison has brought anything new to Batman in terms of characterization and Morrison's take wasn't even that new, it jus hadn't been used for decades so it felt fresh.
>>84293509
maybe it's the inks and the colors but this is the best finch's art has been in a long time
>>84294262
Yeah but this time it's Kaiju and shit. Fucking faggot, did you not read solicitations?
>>84294306
Expecting something new and innovative in terms of characterization for Batman, DC's biggest character, is pretty idiotic, anon.
>>84294324
It is the inks and colors. Pencils are still shit.
>/co/ hates Snyder
>/co/ loves King
>Snyder gets replaced by King
>it's now in reverse
>"I MISS SNYDER AND CAPULLO ;_________;"
Goddamnit you guys
>>84294336
Morrison did it and King's a capable writer. He just needs to find a good voice. 5102
>>84294359
/co/ loves to build new writers up only to tear him/her to pieces once he/she goes mainstream with a big name A-list title.
Happened with Spencer, Hickman, Snyder, etc.
>>84294359
They only hated Snyder for not being Morrison, and so they'll hate King for not being Snyder.
It could be written by a team of Denny O'Neil, Chuck Dixon, Greg Rucka, and Paul Dini and they'd still bitch.
>>84294359
>I MISS SNYDER
Literally nobody said that. I miss Capullo though. Finch a shit. And even though people hated Snyder, his run started out far more interesting.
>>84294370
Morrison is a super star who is allowed to do a lot of things normal writers would get away with. King is a rising star and a critical darling, but he isn't Snyder yet because his books have sold abysmal numbers apart from Grayson, and that was a collaboration.
Anyone else besides me find this Bruce refreshing? Having actual doubts about himself while still being a stuck up asshole is great. And Gordon and Alfred are legitimately funny. I'm enjoying this a lot.
>>84294392
>It could be written by a team of Denny O'Neil, Chuck Dixon, Greg Rucka, and Paul Dini
Those four have such wildly divergent writing styles that it would be worth it just for the freak-show factor.
>>84293628
>psycho pirate and strange
Could be a crazy pair.
Also is Roger the Psycho Pirate from CoIE or the other Psycho Pirate? Could be a Rebirth hook.
>>84294128
What did the anon call? Dr Strange would be in it?
>>84294407
From King's Batman, Alfred and Gordon I think it's clear, that like most of /co/ , King's first Batman was the animated series
>>84294359
like we just keep getting new authors and overhyping them because we want them to be good so badly but they always fucking disappoint. We romanticize the idea of a perfect Batman run but there really isn't one. It's a collage of perfect pieces of flawed stories from like Morrison, O'Neil, Grant, Dixon, Brubaker, Milligan, Miller,Englehart, Dini and Loeb. All really great runs but there's always something to complain about , everyone has their missteps.
King hasn't had the best start, but doesn't he have an at least 24 issue contract, or 48 becaues the double shipping antics?
I don't doubt there's going to be some really good stories but its a given all don't get the best reception.
>>84294417
O'Neil and Dixon seem like they are pretty friendly in real life, I think they'd make a good team
>>84293432
classic bruce being a cunt
>>84294173
Looks like King did his homework.
>>84294466
>good so badly but they always fucking disappoint.
Kings work is mostly fantastic. It's going to take more than two and a half issues of Batman for me to turn on him. Especially when I just read a real piece of shit five minutes ago which was Hitch's JL
>>84294385
>They only hated Snyder for not being Morrison
You Snyderfags are so adorable with your bullshit
>>84294474
That's true, though it would basically be an entire run of Batman fighting assassins like he was in a 70's ninja movie.
Which actually sounds pretty alright.
>>84293488
BECAUSE I'M BATMAN!
>>84293357
>1.3 seconds
>.7 seconds
I hate this shit. It's such a lazy way to try to show someone's intellegence and always sounds like bullshit.
>>84294522
Business as usual for Batman
>>84294485
Holy shit Hitch is terrible. But read my post anon, I'm not giving up on him either, I'm just saying he's off to a slow start and this falter isn't a reason to jump the gun with him. It's ahrd to take over arguably the most prestigious writing gig in comics (besides ASM) and might take a few issues before he really gets a good voice and grasp on the character and Gotham as a whole. He can handle a large cast of characters well as seen in his previous work and juggle multiple plot threads. Just Batman is under a microscope because its basically our most beloved property and we know how great King can be. This issue and the last wasn't good but this might be the beginning of a fucking fantastic Batman run. I mean Snyder started off pretty well and then just kinda petered out with predictability and edginess. King's a badass, of course I'm gonna keep giving him a chance and reading this.
I liked it. Alfred's witty banter OP.
>>84294504
Who doesn't want that?
O'Neil should just get free reign to pick random partners and make the craziest stories possible because why not?
>>84293495
They're trying to bring in new readers so yeah.
At the very least, two issues in we can say this dialogue already beats the shit out of Snyder's monologues.
>>84293464
Why does the Bat Signal not match the spotlight?
>>84294566
your dubs don't lie
those monologues would so cringey
I just miss the art so fucking much though
>>84294574
Editors not doing their jobs
>>84294542
I think Batman beats out Spider-Man in prestige to be fair. I'm with you though I'm holding out hope that King grows into this and picks up the pace a bit. His Alfred and Gordon are great, I think it will all come down to how he handles Strange
Pretty damn good. I'm liking King's run so far after the Rebirth one shot.
>All that Alfred humor
Alfred is the best.
>>84294488
>Snyderfags
You mean the hundreds of thousands who bought his Batman run, making a top-selling comic since the beginning of the New 52?
>>84294610
maybe just because cuz early 90s I started getting into comics but Spider-Man always just seemed like the highest selling, greatest thing in the universe that everyone wish they got a chance to write while random
Superman was like that too but not really Batman back then
idk
>>84294584
>implying they are not prepared enough to handle twice monthly titles
>>84294641
You mean the people who came in off New 52 and saw "BATMAN", no one bought the books because of Snyder, they bought the book because it was a launching point for Batman
>>84294663
Heh, sure, his whoooole run was just that. Years of top-selling comics was just because of newfags.
Dude, I've been reading Batman since I could read in the early 80s. Snyder's run is excellent.
>>84294663
They stayed because of Snyder my delusional hate bro. Only 2 titles kwpt the consistent sales throughout new 52 and even people left Johns JL.
>>84294656
Yeah but Slott's reign of terror just keeps going. Besides Batman has the monopoly on memorable stories so I think it's more prestigious
>>84294689
Snyder's run was garbage. Bruce being a moron, edgy Joker x Batman, plot twists that went no where, walls of exposition
>>84294692
I guarantee you All Star Batman will prove Snyder doesn't sell
>>84294709
or just like everyone who was ever a kid wants to write Spidey so they can self-insert and say jokes they've had in their heads for years
Slott cannot be fucking stopped, his monopoly is insane, and the fact the Bendis is completely unchecked, on the Ultimate universe and now controlling every aspect of Miles' entire existance
DC in general has more "memorable stories" but Marvel has just has man incredible single issues, many of them just aren't in serialized formats or reprinted whatsoever so time forgot about them. Kinda a shame that they don't care about their history whatsoever besides printing those cheap ass Showcases. If I ever make it big I have a few Batman and Superman stories I want to tell, a ton of Legion of Super-Heroes stories and also a bunch of DC's awesome unused magic properties. But since I as like 5 I've been drawing Spider-Man stories. It's like a childhood dream thing while I guess I do admit Batman/Superman are more prestigious and will more likely get you acclaim and fame. I just guarantee every comic writer, from the most die-hard DC fan to those who only read crazy indie comics or pretentious SoL b.s., has a Spider-Man story they are dying to tell one day if they got the opportunity.
>>84293432
Poor Alfred
>>84294689
>Dude, I've been reading Batman since I could read in the early 80s. Snyder's run is excellent.
>>84294761
Like Superman Unchained didn't or Wake didn't or Wytches didn't. :^)His least selling title is Vertigo's best selling book.
>>84293292
Don't know what the story's supposed to be yet, but seems like we're finally about to go somewhere. These two issues have still been pretty enjoyable and easy to read. Even though I liked Snyder's run overall, it was super text-heavy and at times exhausting to get through. Anyway, Strange finally being confirmed as the roof top guy and Waller by his side, I'm intrigued.
This is definitely better than what's going on in the Detective Comics.
>>84293478
>that" absolutely no fucks left" face of Gordon
>>84293444
I'm usually the guy to complain how women dress up in skimpy clothes, but that skirt is just ridiculous. If Finch drew that pose just a bit more realistically, her pussy should be right there out in the open, just saying.
>>84294895
>Don't know what the story's supposed to be yet
About Batman realizing he can't do everything.
>>84293509
Huh, They are going for Golden Age Hugo Strange proportions.
Also, when is Amanda Waller running for president? She has the appropriate amount of unpunished criminal behavior
>>84293432
Fuck you Bruce.
to everyone complaining that bruce is a cunt
, he's being saracastic/ironic or whatever you want to call him. keep in mind he's very familiar alfred and is probably just joking. and you turbo autists didn't know that just because finch forgot to draw a smile on bruce's face.
>>84295166
>just because finch forgot to draw a smile on bruce's face.
Or King did the horrendous error and thought people would be able understand it was a joke without having to do something like insert a "Bruce is joking here - Your trusty editor, Doyle" editorial note
>>84293509
Sam Lane and Amanda Waller. Now I'm interested.
>>84293509
>you've finally SAVED Gotham City

>What did he mean by this?
What did he mean by this?
>>84294417
That should be DC's next weekly series.
>>84293432

Bruce is the kind of asshole that bitches on the internet how an anime did an insignificant detail wrong.

>shilling for the other company
>>84295377
Denny's basically retired, Dixon seems to have burned his bridges with DC or something, Rucka's back but probably has nightmares over 52 and Dini's pretty bad at deadlines if his last few ongoing books are any indication.
>>84295495
I like his work on Dr. McNinja. How's Gwenpool?
>>84293438
the average person jokes about bruce wayne being batman in the same way we joke abut ted cruz being the zodiac killer. Bruce himself fans the flames on message boards and such to further discredit the notion

>>84293438
If they were smart they wouldn't live in Gotham.
>>84295515
surprisingly more morbid than the gurihiru art might make you think. the subtext that Gwen knows her survival is directly tied to comic readers liking her enough adds an air of quiet desperation when things go tits up. the only reason she hasn't died already is plot armor and if she loses her ongoing she can kiss that goodbye.

>>84297876
Because of Danny Miki. He will be the next issue's sole inker.
I like it. I'm meh about a crossover coming this early, but Gotham and Gotham Girl are slightly off in a way that I find really intriguing.
>>84295516
You think they'd joke more about how he's likely a narcissistic paedophile, with a body count.
Damn it, /co/, now I really don't want Gotham to die!

I think this is actually the nicest Batman has been to a random superpowered hero.
people seem to forget that this is a bi-monthly comic so it's going to have a totally different rhytm when compared to other comics
>>84293338
>Two characters who can hold airplanes and giant statues can't take down Grundy

Uh-hum.

I really doubt it considering how far in advance the scripts are turned in.

Damian truly is Bruce's son.

This doesn't make sense if you've been reading any other Rebirth books. Many of them have good pacing.
>>84293464
>No
So I guess Bruce has no longer met Strange in this continuity?
I don't feel any problems with the pacing. I like the story's gradual development, it makes it feel more "detective" than action book. Not sure how to describe it better, but it works for me.
>>84298427
1. They softened him up for Batman
2. That was a toss, not a punch
>>84298194
King confirmed that Strange is the guy in the shadows but he said there was more to it
So they maybe want to genuinely help and aren't aware of what Strange is doing

Bats sat there and waited for Grundy to get close enough, then flipped him using Grundy's own momentum against him.

Grundy was getting hit on the face with building shattering strength, and then Batman threw him on the ground. Of all people, I never expected King to write him Batgod.
Is this awful artist gonna be paired with King for the entire run?
>>84298760
I am glad I don't care about power level shit so I don't miss the obvious point of that scene just to be stuck on MUH BATGOD memes
This was great. I'm loving King's take on Bruce.

>"Yep. That's rape"

That's Snyder's take.

It's just bad writing, m8. If he wanted to establish Batman as a senpai to the Gothams, he should've knocked out Grundy with gas or hang him upside down with a trap.
>>84293509
HugeStrange!
>>84298760
>Grundy was getting hit on the face with building shattering strength
Exactly. In case you haven't noticed, he was running AWAY from Gotham. He was already hurt at that point, Batman just did the finishing move. Nothing Batgod about it.
>>84298892
Grundy respects and knows Batman so he knew that playtime was over now that he showed up and that's why he didn't even try to get up

>>84293509
its not going to blow any of us away yet, but i think in 3 or 4 arcs this will be getting really good. King is clearly building towards the weirder / more philosophical stuff in a way that hopefully wont tank his sales
>>84300005
No everyone else is just pretending to get it.
>>84299963
King does seem to like evil ladies
>>84299911
Consider this. I'm well aware of new runs having far different characterizations and goals from other runs. I'm also aware characters sometimes have different motivations. I haven't read the first one so whatever but having this be the first exposure, I'm left going "Did they make it so resurrected Bruce doesn't trust Alfred in the same way that preboot Bruce stopped having faith in Tim?"
>>84300020
Well double shipping is going to kill sales a little anyway
It's not gonna be 110k+ plus like it was during Snyder's run
I'm hoping it won't get below 90k tho
>>84299779
It's an asshole thing to say, but if Superheavy is still canon, technically Bruce has reasons not to trust Alfred. He kept his own life from him in a very elaborate scheme and required Dick Grayson to wear a fake mustache, among other things. I don't really expect this to be addressed again, but Alfred clearly has issues.
>>84300210

>>84293432
>I don't trust Alfred
/co/, say all you want about Scott Snyder, but he would have NEVER let Bruce say this.
>>84300036
>>84300210
>>84300371
You guys are reading way too much in it: it's just a joke conveyed badly.
This was probably caused by King wanting to accomplish too many things in one page. Look at it and how much King put and how Finch didn't manage to deliver
>Bruce and Duke talking about the current situation, while moving to the Batcave
>Bruce makes a joke about not trusting Alfred
>Alfred explaining things to Duke
>Alfred look at the clock, recalls the Waynes murder and how it affected Bruce
does Gotham girl shave her pubes with her eye lasers reflected into a mirror? does she have eye lasers?
>>84300421
Isn't the ability to convey something the most important in these cases? I can understand Alfred making a wisecrack, regardless of whether or not bruce is being a shit, but with the joke conveyed badly and alfred fucking laughing it off to duke. It just made Bruce seem like an even shittier incarnation in general.
I can understand if it was literally lost in translation but holy shit people defending it as if it were in fact clear as day and not the second book of a new run which could give us any amount of characterization possibilities is just fucking dumb.
I know Flash believes that there's no laughing in the Batcave, but jesus fucking christ people, Bruce DOES make jokes from time to time.
>>84300501
But it WAS clear as day. Bruce was already fucking around with Duke in the Rebirth issue and Alfred was keeping up the ruse. It didn't even occur to me that people might think Bruce was being serious.
>>84300504
There's no punchline or lead up to that joke. There's no signifier that it is a joke other then my mind going "That's dumb, Bruce would trust Alfred with his life" and even on that strain instead of going "Haha it must be a joke" I'm going "What the fuck did they write that Bruce doesn't trust Alfred anymore?"
i like how the preview/intro was just the solomon grundy poem
>>84293338
and this is maybe the best Finch has looked. at least in years.
>>84298760
Batman used grundy's own weight and momentum against him. He was also familiar enough with Grundy to know what to say to get him to stay down
>>84300552
Oh wait you're just coming in. I said earlier I didn't get to read the first issue and that at first exposure Bruce was still being Bruce up until that point.
To me it came off as a statement and then Alfred trying to clear the air with Duke with an anecdote.
It's obviously a joke, that's why Alfred answers by bringing up that stupid japanese blade memory
>>84300575
There doesn't need to be a lead up, it's just banter. Do you even talk to people in real life?
>>84293495
he did spend most of that time complaining about it
>>84300614
>I didn't read the first issue and was confused by the second
hmm clearly bad writing is at fault here
>>84293509
oh now i'm not worried. we good.
>>84300658
>Do you even talk to people in real life?
I'm pretty sure a large number of /co/ anons actually don't.
>>84300658
I do talk to people in real life, their body language and voices are able to convey feelings more then black on white dialogue on a page of three straight faced guys which allows me to tell what they are trying to get across.
Do you talk to people in real life? Because you seem to have gotten better at reading comics and not knowing how to people are read
so i just realized gotham and gotham girl areprobably suicide squadand i'm incredibly hype now. KING
>>84300713
>The bad writing is at fault
>In an argument about conveying visually
Anon, what?
>>84293432
Kek thats fucking great
>>84293357
Since rebirth started, Batman has been obsessed with numbers for some reason. Every rebirth issue has some sort of timing going on, or mention of specific numbers in a situation
I wonder how many people thought that the tree from the Rebirth issue was sentient when Bruce said "the tree is winning".
>>84293464
>that face
>No
Oh Bruce you never trust anyone
>>84300772
Definitely addressed my point about how maybe the fact that maybe not reading that first issue is why you (or a different anon, tough to tell) had trouble understanding characterization in the second.
I have been undone by your nitpicking!
>>84300896
No it's still me, But I don't understand how that is supposed to sell me.
Think of it this way I was thinking of getting into a run and instead of asking people which runs to jump into because they liked it I wanted to try it and see if I liked it.
I go in and from top to bottom is just straight up batman, He's broody, no one is good enough, he's a playboy, he gets that one scene where there's a close up of his face for no apparent reason other then from him to sat No.
I'm trying to be sold on this book and then I have the one characterization nitpick going "Why doesn't he trust Alfred? He's being a Dick to everyone around him but that's just Batman, Right?" I didn't read the first book, because really I didn't care to look for it, I just jumped on in.
So pardon me if I think that the execution of that joke where the art conveyed nothing and it seemed like was just a regular one off statement that pertained to him being serious about it two super powered vigilantes in his city.
I laughed at the Alfred Joke but the Bruce joke just made it seem like Alfred was trying to clear the air of Bruce being a massive cunt. Which is actually the per usual situation.
>>84301067
You sound extremely autistic. Not as an insult but just an observation. It was clearly a joke and the fact that it triggered you so badly is pretty ridiculous. Go see a doctor.
>>84301128
It didn't trigger me so much as I asked a question and then literally everyone else got triggered and I'm like "Welp that's happening today"
I don't exactly oppose having differing opinions and talking it out but it's normal for /co/ to not want to talk about comics huh?
>>84300847
its [sp] all part of calander man's larger plot [/sp]
#BringbackSynder
>>84301067
My point was that the first issue pretty much spent to entire time introducing us to king's Bruce. If you had started at the beginning of the story instead of just wherever you felt like it,you might have had enough context to understand that Bruce was clearly joking since in the last issue we saw that Bruce trusts Alfred implicitly.
Of course you are allowed to not understand something or think it wasn't well done. But the fact that you didn't even read to first issue definitely undercuts any argument about characterization that you are trying to make.
Also: I don't think anyone here will argue that finch's art is subpar
>>84298713
Ultra Boy actually has "penetra-vision" not ultra vision.
>>84293397
love that he's back to smoking a pipe, fuck that non smoking shit when he was "batman"
>>84301283
not the anon you were replying to, but i honestly think finch is getting better
>>84301283
Fair point, But I would say that it's like browsing a shop isn't it? I didn't see an #1 so I went with issue #2 and normally I'd say the same thing in real life "What the hell is this characterization, Bruce is a dick". You do have prior knowledge but for other people it's apparently easier to repeat "It's a joke" instead of giving reasoning for the statement and just leave it at that, and then when I go to explain my reasoning it goes on "Nah you're just wrong bro he's just joking".
I knew people on /co/ never liked to explain themselves on why they had a specific stance on things, but it's silly.
>>84301539
If you know anything about Batman you know Bruce's voice and personality and could clearly tell that was a joke.
>>84301685
Think of Last Years Batman compared to Batman mid 2000.
Alot has changed and on a new run I wouldn't put it passed them to have written something that makes it so he doesn't trust Alfred explicitly
Whose willing to bet Waller got pushed in by editors for Suicide Squad shilling purposes and will have no actual affect on the plot?
>>84301539
>it's like browsing a shop isn't it? I didn't see an #1 so I went with issue #2
That's pretty much like buying the second book in a book series and complaining about not understanding references to the previous book though. It happens, but it's not the writer's fault, but the reader's.
>>84301539
Fair enough. /co/ definitely gets riled up when it seems like someone is complaining about something that reading the book completely explains.
Clearly you did read the issue though and put some thought into it. Like I said, the first issue really sets up king's take on batman (which is essentially Morrison's batman) so I'd recommend checking it out

>>84301886
Yeah I would like to try it but maybe not in plain sight of /co/. For the most part I'm curious as to Duke's place and someone earlier said he was training three people so that seems interesting. I'll go browse around for the first issue in the archive or somewhere

>>84301810
I doubt it. Or, regardless, I think King is fine with using her. She's seems like exactly the kind of character that King's CIA experience would let him write pretty well, just as he did with the Viceroy from Omega Men.
>>84302300
>tfw everybody is wanting King to write GL but you want him to write Suicide Squad because CIA
Suicide Squad is fucking tailor made for him
So Gotham and Gotham Girl are under Strange's control and doing his bidding w/o knowing it.
Y/N ?
Meh, I am not liking King's Bruce. Feels so lifeless, almost like he's just making sure to hit bullet points for the character and that's it.
>>84296395
Clock King for major villain then?
>>84302545
King mentioned him or said he was gonna use him so yeah
>>84302428
Yeah, they probably were his patients working through some traumatic experience (which is inevitable, if you live in Gotham) and then Lane and the Wall came along and thus the whole "go through experimentation and then you can help your city" thing happened. I think they genuinly think they're here to help.
>>84293432
Aside from everything already posted about Cunt-Bruce, Alfred, and the sword bit, we get yet ANOTHER reference to time/Watchmen in that last panel. King's lack of subtly is vexing.
So, do you think the Gothams are husband and wife, or siblings?

It's so weird, specially with this coloring
>>84302783

yeah no. not even morrison and moore are subtle with the work they've done. it's all check out these big cosmic concepts and how I'm using them as metaphors.
if you want subtlety, read an actual book
>>84302886
King usually is subtle. I think he's dumbing himself down for Batfags and whatever that new thing he was pitching will be his interesting book.
>>84302979

>>84303112

Considering all the people in this thread who couldn't even tell bruces "not trusting alfred" joke was in fact a joke...yeah he probably needs to dumb shit down even more.
This is so underwhelming it hurts. It actually hurts my soul to know we lost passion projects like Vision and Omega Men so King could make more $$$.
Ah well
>>84305349
>>84305349
the only ones that complained are people that clearly don't know anything about Bruce and Alfred interactions, since this kind of behavior is nothing new, so it's more plausible that the people failing to understand are King fans that are just her to complain about him being wasted on Batman or random shitposters
>>84305568
>It actually hurts my soul to know we lost passion projects like Vision and Omega Men so King could make more $$$.
Why would you say this? Omega Men was cancelled without King's next project being thought of at all. It did not sell. Vision is also selling at a cancellation level over at Marvel, it was never going to make it past #12.
>>84305568
>we lost passion projects like Vision and Omega Men
We didn't lose shit you faggot, they were always supposed to be 12 issue series. If you want to support King's passion project, go buy Sheriff instead of being a dipshit and pirating them. Fuck, entitled piece of shit like you are the worst.
Batman is great again.

It's actually pretty good.

I think it's just fine, standard Batman stuff with potential for more
I think people are forgetting that it's gonna be 3 trades/storylines that basically go together so it's probably gonna be more of aslow burner like Sheriff and Omega Men were

>Idiots on /co/
I'm shocked. I'm sure these are the people King had in mind when writing the issue. It all makes sense now.
>>84305080
No one bit
>>84305891
It's serviceable. It'll get us to the Monster Men crossover, which is all that really matters.
Honestly, it's a step down from King's other projects. He's shown that he's an astute *comics* writer -- he had great layouts, great transitions, and used every tool to great use so that even a "decompressed" story was an amazing read. Honestly, his only problem pre-Batman was that he wrote for B-listers at best (probably Grayson), taking the characters into weird directions (Grayson, Vision, Omega Men).
It's not even a matter of intelligence or whatever. Grayson was pure popcorn, but his layouts and scripts made Janin look like a top-tier artist -- which is crazy considering his Poser art can be awful at times -- and made the book itself a must-read. And, again, this was just an action-y book made to take Dick Grayson a bit more seriously, not something "deep" like Omega Men, Sheriff, or even Vision.
It just feels like he's trying to fix problems in his writing that weren't there to begin with.
>>84305891
better than Snyder but it's disappointing for King
>>84303510
A Batman C-lister villain is still wildly known to the general audience, Batman has the most iconic gallery of rogues most normalfags know about thanks to all the exposure they've received from tv, film and video games.
>>84305891
It's ok, it's still in buildup mode which for some reason aggravates people who want immediate payoff.
>>84305891
It's good. Leagues ahead of Snyder, setting up a lot of parts, should pay off nicely.
>>84305672
Oh please don't be a fag about it. "Oh uh...well those idiots don't count cos they're not true scottsmen"
This very thread showed how plain dumb comic readers can be. Don't pretend its only this group or that so you can dismiss that shit

>>84306225
I think a lot of the problem with this is that King doesn't have the pull to do a cool King-esque Batman run. Especially when his artist is higher profile than he is.
>>84306252
>>84306575
I call bullshit. I bet every one of you started off sucking Snyder's dick when his run started. Court of the Owls was pretty great.
"Better than Snyder" after 2 issues, lmao...the issues weren't even that good. Art sucks too.
>>84307410
Opinions man, like assholes you know?
I didnt enjoy the Snyder run, besides the art, and sold em back to my LCS following DOTF. Didnt like anything about his writing, King, responsible for a couple good books already, is settling in nicely, so yeah, I like it a lot better than Snyder so far.
- but I thought he dead

I think I'm going to enjoy this run once the plot kicks off proper. The character work is already much better than Snyder's.

King's approach for Batman is different. He's described approaching Batman as something more like an action movie.
>With Batman, I really wanted to write a superhero action movie. There will be deep scenes. I can’t get that stuff out of my head. But my real intention is to thrill the reader. To take them out of their everyday and be like “holy shit, I can’t believe that just happened.”

Why would anyone miss the man that managed to make the modern Joker an even worse character than he already was?
>Nrama: Can you answer this question: Are Gotham and Gotham Girl connected to Hugo Strange and Amanda Waller?
>King: I cannot answer that question. I wish I could.
>Nrama: I wish you could too, but we'll leave it at that. Anything else you want to say about Batman?
>King: Just thank you for solving that mystery. I was really excited when I saw that.
>Nrama: So you weren't mad about the identity sort of being spoiled?
>King: Not at all. Of course, there's kind of second part to that mystery. The great villain of this — the villain that's in the background of everything — has not been revealed. Hugo Strange is not the answer to that question. There are more than one villain involved, obviously, including someone you wouldn't normally associate with Batman canon. But yeah, Hugo Strange is another pawn on the table, and there's someone manipulating that pawn.
This keeps getting better and better.
>>84302804
I don't know. Siblings is likelier.
The fact that Gotham speaks way more than Gotham Girl does though is a little sketchy, as is their Golden Age-esque designs.
>>84311823
>someone you wouldn't normally associate with Batman canon
Who's watching the Batman?
>>84307410
People gave Snyder a chance and he proved time after time that he couldn't write an ending to save his life. Combine that with one of the worst Jokers around and you have a shit run.
>>84293444

Damn, that's the third major Strange appearance in a piece of Bat-Media where he's just been someone else's bitch. It's hilarious that when he was created Finger and Kane thought he would be Batman's arch-enemy.

Batman is for Batman. There was Batman Inc at the time and Detective Comics was always the Bat-Family book.
>>84312678
Oh definitely, but King is coming on after Morrison and Snyder. And I know /co/ shits all over his run, but Snyder's in addition to Morrison's run were very well received. Lots of pressure there to do well and be as well received.
>This comes from getting together with Geoff Johns, Dan DiDio, Jim Lee, Scott Snyder and the whole crew, deciding that Batman and the DCU have to be tied closer together. That was it — we need to show readers that this is a universe where the stakes are real and we're not just a bunch of writers working alone.
RIP all hope for a work on the level of King's previous output
>>84313057
Yeah I get you. I don't think acclaim will be a problem here though honestly. King is a hot writer at the moment, and most mainstream comic sites will rate a decent story from a popular writer highly regardless of how good it is (this is exactly what happened to Snyder post-Black Mirror).
>>84293488

>>84312575
>we HACKMAN now
It's the exact opposite. Hickman only cares about plot and his five year storyline, and pretty shitty at doing characterization, especially in stories that have a lot of people in it. King on the other hand is good at characterization and at the same time, he cares about doing long term subplots and storylines that only unfold through the course of several issues down the line, like a classic comic book writers used to do when the trend wasn't to leave any new book they did after twelve issues.
>>84293317
Does DC's NYC also have a Statue of Liberty?
>>84293345
Batman, why are you tough talking an unconscious zombie?
I think I officially lost all hope for King on this title.
>>84319019
but hickman's ff and east of west all have fantastically developed characters - granted I'll give you he works in similar archetypes - but development for him occurs on the micro level. even now, 27 issues into east of west, he's still revealing new sides of characters, fleshing them out into something complex
>>84319037
Have you not watched Batman Forever?
>>84319167
Not in too long. But what I'm wondering is if the French were just handing those statues out all over the place in the late 19th century?
>>84319140
Hickman only cared about Reed and Doom, Sue was completely a background character, Ben just went through the usual motions, Johnny was dead half of the run.
>>84319246
I like to pretend Gotham just looked at the NYC statue and went "we fucking want one too!"
>>84293424

True, but I really like Bruce pretending to be a drunken playboy. Also, I imagine there are plenty of writers who want Batman to go the Iron Man route (yet again) so Bruce can be open about being Batman and act like a humorless dick 24/7.
