I agree that they could have done better with Knuckles in Generations and all, but for someone that liked Knuckles since S3&K, I don't think making him "Werehog & Knuckles" would make it justified. Sonic Unleashed was never going to have more than Sonic. Period. It's damn clear of that since 06 was a fucking failure. And before people say anything, yes, the multiple characters setup in Sonic games isn't the problem, but SEGA most likely thought so, like how Nintendo does just the same shit when they do anything new, and revert back to being safe again. If people really hate the Werehog, then hate SEGA for thinking what was bad about 06 was the bad gameplay mechanics, not multiple characters, not the Werehog itself because it at least fucking works functionally.
I would like the main team of Sonic playable and nothing more (if just Amy in a usable playstyle), but Unleashed was in the end "Sonic's World Adventure" having Knuckles in that game wouldn't have worked for the plot it was set to have. Once Sega went belly up in the DC error Sonic became their best seller. This resulted in ST being forced to grind out Sonic games despite the fact they wanted to do more original shit. They were also taken in at times with western products like GTA's open world concept or the FPS craze.

First one reminds me of some old playstation mascots like crash, second seems like what they would do if Sonic was in the wild for a while in an episode (or a series where he was raised in the jungle) while the third and forth just make me think "not sonic".
If Boom was to ever end, Sticks is the one thing I think the Main Series should keep.

Really, I don't give a shit about most Sonic characters. I'm just curious how they'd reinvent them. They've done wonders for most of them so far. I'd really prefer more out-there redesigns like Knuckles over the more traditional-looking Metal Sonic and Shadow we got.

The show needs to look a little less sterile and lifeless in terms of its environments and the CGI in general. Maybe the second season will have a better budget. A serious storyline across multiple episodes wouldn't hurt, either, but I can accept it's just a wacky comedy like AoStH.
