>>84112850
Why wouldn't they use a proven-effective style of engine? If it ain't broke don't fix it. It's obviously got a Y-wing/snowspeeder style cockpit too. Common design elements among Rebel craft is something you would expect.
So how do I port my saber design to the store?
I doubt I'd actually buy one anytime soon, but I'd like to see how much it'd cost.

>>84113518
It's a lazy design philosophy. None of the rebel ships in the OT share so many elements with each other. They're cannibalizing themselves instead of thinking of new shapes.
>Common design elements among Rebel craft is something you would expect.
Honestly, common design elements among IMPERIAL craft is something you would expect. Rebels are a bunch of disparate elements brought together, their ships would be wide and varied.
There are many in-universe possibilities to justify the common elements, but it's not exactly high-brow.
>>84113801
>There are many in-universe possibilities to justify the common elements, but it's not exactly high-brow.
I definitely agree, but I get why they're doing it this way. We're still in the unfortunate "don't confuse casual audiences" period.
Maybe I'm just OK with that. I didn't mind them re-using X-wings in TFA either because they were clearly an updated model and for me the tech details matter just as much as the look of the shipbecause I'm autistic as fuck about aircraft of any kind
For example did you know that the new First Order TIEs actually have shields and hyperdrives? At least the 2-seated variant Finn and Poe stole did. To me that's awesome, but it doesn't make a single difference to the movie or most viewers so it's lost in a guidebook for people like me to chew over.
It may be uninspired but I'm easy to please
>>84113935
>It may be uninspired but I'm easy to please
We all have our own nerd kinks, man. Whatever makes you happy.
>>84113982Thank you for understanding, I get a lot of shit for it usually
>>84113935
>Maybe I'm just OK with that. I didn't mind them re-using X-wings in TFA either because they were clearly an updated model and for me the tech details matter just as much as the look of the ship
I would've preferred that they be a little different from X-Wings, something that clearly evokes it and is definitely a descendant of it but not just an X-Wing with a few tweaks (sort of like the Z-95 Headhunter only in the opposite direction).
The bigger problem to me was that the Resistance had nothing but X-Wings and the First Order had nothing but regular TIE Fighters. Even ANH was able to give both sides at least one other starfighter (even if the only other TIE was Vader's). It just felt lazy.
>>84114289
Well at least A-Wings are semi-confirmed for Ep 8
Totally agree though. At the very least, if the First Order had to be only using one TIE variant, why not just keep the interceptor? That was intended to phase out the original TIE anyway. That bothered me.
Headhunters are fucking sweet too, they could have made that work. Casual audiences don't know about them and they still LOOK like X-wings.
As for why each faction was only using one kind of fighter, well, in the case of the Resistance they didn't really have the funding for more than like 2 squadrons so I guess the X-wing makes the most sense if you can only operate one kind of fighter, since it's a "multi-role" thing. Kind of like the modern JSF program where it's one platform for all missions.
The First Order has no excuse though, they need to step up their game.
>>84113935
I'm an engineer myself, and I'm qualified to make up any shit I want to justify whatever's on screen (to be signed off on by a senior engineer), but these new designs really didn't get my motor running.
>I didn't mind them re-using X-wings in TFA
I did. There was a reason those concepts weren't used. The new intakes ruin the lines of the ship in attack mode and makes me flash back to my thermodynamics classes about why they're impractical.
>but they aren't really intakes
They still look like intakes!
>For example did you know that the new First Order TIEs actually have shields and hyperdrives? At least the 2-seated variant Finn and Poe stole did.
All of them do. The TIE/SF is a lovely piece of hardware still.
It honestly makes the First Order look more incompetent, because they fixed most of the problems the Empire had and they STILL fail harder than they did.
>one officer can turn off the entire shield grid
>three guys can take down the entire shield grid
>thirty ships blow up a planet-sized base
>EVEN THOUGH THEY UNLEASHED THE FIGHTERS THIS TIME
That was so dumb. The original Death Star assault was a defeat because of Imperial arrogance, the Starkiller assault succeeded because of writer fiat.
>>84114381
What do you think of these?
Concept art of potential Resistance ships for TFA that were ultimately scrapped in favor of just the new-model X-Wings
>>84114381
>That was so dumb. The original Death Star assault was a defeat because of Imperial arrogance, the Starkiller assault succeeded because of writer fiat.
What makes all of this absolute incompetence even funnier is that Starkiller Base had to have been so massively expensive that for whatever money and resources it cost them to not only partially hollow out a planet and implement a weapon that literally eats suns, they could've just built like three Death Stars, each guarded by multiple shields and entire fleets. Would it have been overkill? Definitely, but it would've STILL been a better use of resources than Starkiller Base.
>>84114381
>>one officer can turn off the entire shield grid
That really was dumb, you'd think that it would have to have at least three or something. One person having all that vital information and them being so noticeable/easy to reach is just a mistake.
If Phasma was such a loyal soldier why didn't she just kill herself to keep the codes secret?
>>84114425
And here's the X-wing they ultimately went with with the weird intakes like you said
They're barely even intakes, they're like some kinda half-turbine thing that doesn't even make sense
The underslung cannon was cool but then we never see it again except Poe using it on the ground too
>>84114425
I like the X-wing, though it needs a couple more design passes to be movie worthy.
The rest are generic shit.
>>84114381
>one officer can turn off the entire shield grid
I never understood why this would even be a thing. If Phasma turned off the shields, shouldn't one of the dozens, possibly hundreds of people watching shit on their various consoles have said "oh hey, someone turned the shield off, maybe we should turn it back on?"
>>84114425
With a little refinement, the C-Wing has potential. The others are a little too out there.
>>84114452
The First Order is staffed by idiots who idolized the Empire, tried to become Empire 2.0, and made not only the same exact mistakes but a whole lot of new ones.
Even the Separatists were a less laughable evil villain organization than these guys and they had comedy droids as their main footsoldiers.

TFA's setting in general seems to be "Not a single fucking person learned a damned thing about anything"
>>84114560
My nerra
>>84114445
I actually really like this concept art. It looks powerful, like a muscle car.
In movie, less so. They should have kept the turbine being large enough to rise above the cockpit.
>>84114425
>that U, E, and C wing
I dig, but the real E-Wing will always be better
>>84114573
And that's what I like about it. It's the generation after the Great War trying to figure themselves out in the shadow of their mothers and fathers.
It's why I like the idea that Luke's Academy collapsed, everything isn't just going to work out perfectly. Your forefathers aren't going to have all the answers, no matter how much Hux wants to jerk off over how big his Imperial laser cock is and how it's even more Empire-y then the Empire. Legacy isn't everything.
I'm not saying JJ didn't make some mistakes but I REALLY like the new universe and characters we got. Now maybe just get someone in with a stronger hand on screenwriting.
Did anything good come out of the Galactic Civil War that was long-lasting? Or did everything in the Galaxy turn to Hell in a handbasket in 15-20 years and limped along until it was finally put out of it's misery?
>>84114661
>but I REALLY like the new universe and characters we got
I like some of the new characters, but the setting is garbage to me. It feels like they went out of their way to make everything match the OT as much as they could. There's no originality and even the mindset that led to these things happening feels like a complete afterthought. They just went "let's have another Empire and another Rebel Alliance and the Jedi are gone, we'll worry about why it happened later."
>>84114666
well people aren't being worked to death in the mines to build a giant death station
that's a plus
>>84114661
>It's why I like the idea that Luke's Academy collapsed, everything isn't just going to work out perfectly. Your forefathers aren't going to have all the answers, no matter how much Hux wants to jerk off over how big his Imperial laser cock is and how it's even more Empire-y then the Empire. Legacy isn't everything.
See, I could buy one or two things not working out, that's expected. But with TFA it felt like nothing from ROTJ worked out. Every major victory was reversed. The only one that seems to have stuck is the defeat of the Sith, but we don't know enough about Snoke and the Knights of Ren to tell if there's even a significant enough difference between them. Either way we're right back to a dark side bogeyman controlling a vast military regime alongside his right-hand man who was once a Jedi.
>>84114702
I agree, even taking into account the fact that new media being released is being heavily curated by the Story Group, they haven't done anything interesting with the setting.
Poe Dameron's comic is the only really good addition, honestly.
Oh, that and the Crimson Corsair story.
Remember that Star Wars existed? Go out and buy our toys, that's all this franchise is good for.

>>84115379
Ahsoka was right to walk way
>Hey, we're sorry for wrongfully accusing you of a horrible bombing. We're sorry we tried to track you down an execute you as a war criminal. But that was your TRUE TEST! Now you're a REAL JEDI! Please come back to the order, we totally trust you NOW."
Yeah fuck that.
You can even tell by Yoda's reaction when she walks away that he knows the entire Jedi Order is lost.
>>84115440
In fact, Yoda's greatest bit of wisdom was when he lamented that by even starting to fight the Clone Wars, they had already lost them.
>>84115379
Well, to be fair they were right with what they said. Ashoka did become stronger and learnt a lot from what she went through. What she went through was probably harder than the actual trail so it makes sense. Still, I don't blame Ashoka for leaving for them leaving her like that. Too much had changed for her to come back and it won't be the same again. Bariss was right.
>>84115513
Ahsoka is basically the only character in canon who got away with making the Grey Jedi path look acceptable.
She left the Order and she was stronger for it. In fact, if she hadn't left she would have died in Order 66 and never been there to guide Kanan and Ezra when they needed it most.
Filoni is so good with this kind of shit.
>>84114560
That imperial commander was brilliant. Sadly no Naare rage moment.
>>84115555
God damn I wasted those quads so hard
Praise kek
>>84115141
I found it very weird that none of the other characters ever brought that up, they seem to let her get away with too much. The only time we almost got a bit of background was when Ezra was pestering her about why she hangs out alone a lot
>>84114770
>and there's a big I.O.U. where her backstory should be

>>84115807
The constant pun names got pretty stale. A lot of them, and the visual pun designs, felt like filler. Where they couldn't really think of joke, but the video needed every line to be amusing, so they rolled with it. The video was at its best when making amusing observations about the cynical construction of how the movie worked. "Remember Star Wars" was okay, the tediousness of it was the point, but things about Rey's character and the sheer nonsense of Star Killer were the highlights.
The "backstory I.O.U." really got me because it's a great way to describe that very common narrative beat. It's absurdly common to do that kind of tease where nothing is revealed for no particular reason other than we need to keep this shit going. Can't just have Kylo pull out her origins right away because we need to save that for the ESB retread.I swear to fuck, if there's some rehash of the "No, I am your father" line, I'm going to choke someone. There's not actually wrong with the this kind of backstory obscuring, information reveals are often paced for a reason. But I doubt learning Rey's background is somehow going to substantially change the interpretation of her character prior to knowing it in an interesting way.
The line just very succinctly pointed this thing that I hadn't really considered before in an amusing way.

there will be
It will be Kylo telling Rey during their fight on Acht-ToLuke killed your parents and left you on Jakku
>>84115905
I don't dislike puns, but like I said, a lot of them were entirely ancillary to the video and came across as filler. It just felt like "we can't just say the characters names, every mention has to be a jarring pun." Some were amusing, some had a actual relation to the critique, but most were kind of pointless. Even for a purposefully absurd comedy slideshow.
>>84115923
I'm more concerned it'll be a straight up climactic family revelation again. TFA, at the very least, didn't pull that shit.
>>84115936
Yeah, one of the good things TFA did was treating the whole "Kylo is Han's son" thing as not a big deal
They just say it and get it out of the way, which was nice. If it had been dramatically revealed during the bridge scene people would've rolled their eyes.
>No, I am your son

The Visual story guide for Rogue One has been cancelled.
There has to be something shady going on behind the scenes of Rogue One.
That EW article telling us everything was going according to plans seem more and more like damage control after all the rumors and leaks now.

I know the TFA counterpart to this guide had some errors and inconsistencies with other reference material. They're probably trying to head this one off.
Not to mention that the Rogue One Visual Dictionary is sounding much beefier then previous DK books (consolidating both the typical VD content and the Cross-Sections book into one thing) they probably figured it was redundant.

Depends on how extensive the changes were, I guess, with other possible mitigating factors like the author having scheduling conflicts. They seem to be having hard enough time getting the movie finished before release, a guide may not be considered a priority. In fact I'd hazard it wouldn't be. They typically try to get them out about the time of release but if for whatever reason they couldn't patch it together I can see them just dropping it like they have.

>>84122626
I think the troopers might have undergone a slight redesign in order to make them look better in high-res.
>>84122626
I'll post them all here for ya all
>>84122653
Yeah, some of them look a bit funky, bit it might just be the angle some of them are standing in.

Yeah, it seems the Empire likes those chest designs.

If he actually starts talking about the Onderon arc, I'm gonna freak out.
>>84122696
Wow, never noticed that their shoulder flap things are basically just like the clone ARC troopers and commanders wore in TCW. They're just mirrored
>>84123081
Anon, We saw regular Stormtroopers wearing those back in ANH. They're nothing recent.
minor interesting thing: FFG has some neato art of some of the imperial officers from rebels in their armada game

Loving the more realistic takes on the Rebels cast from FFG. Their work with the Ghost crew and Kallus was pretty good too (except Ezra. Who drew that kid's face?)

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST MAKE THE SKY FUCKING PURPLE OR SOMETHING?
>>84123657
Why do you want it purple? A purple sky would mean the planet they're on has an atmosphere composed of something other than oxygen, and probably isn't breathable by humans, which would make no sense.
I hate Star Wars Rebels and I hate The Force Awakens, it's all a big slap in the face.
>But Anon! It's all the same action-adventure that you got from the original Trilogy and The Clone Wars series that you love so much.
I loved the original Trilogy and Clone Wars because I was convinced that the characters were special. In Clone Wars, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and all of the other high ranking Jedi commanders were military veterans at this point who have all fought in countless skirmishes and watched HUNDREDS of their clonetrooper allies die in these conflicts. They were the true badasses. Then you rewatch the original trilogy and get the sense that Han Solo was really that level of special too, that even though he wasn't force-sensitive, he's such a badass that he's survived many confrontations with the Empire.
Then Rebels and Force Awakens come along and show you that ANYBODY can do it. Han Solo isn't special at all, Ezra's gang and Rei/Finn can infiltrate Imperial ships, escape Tie Fighters, and effortlessly fight dozens of stormtroopers easy. ANYBODY CAN DO IT xD
Fuck you

>>84123926
Oh shit, you reminded me of that scene in Cabin in the Woods where... Well, if you've seen it, you know.
I want a Star Wars horror/monster movie about a bunch of smuggled monsters get loose on a ship or something. Could be great.Don't mention the Rathtar scene.
>>84123752
Wow, you actually got rid of the watermark in Paint? Impressive
>>84124045I just cropped the bottom of the pic outBut I DO have some sick paint skills, if I do say myself.
My friend sent me a very in-depth analysis of what The Force Awakens was a failure. I thought it was a very good read and thought you guys might be interested.
The problem is the entire thing is in all caps and written in the voice of an obnoxious character gimmick. If you can get past that though, it's actually a really damn good analysis.

Nah, they're just all properly made versions of the 'stunt helmet' instead of the 'hero helmet' now.
The damn armor being well made actually makes it look janky!

>>84123657
>>84123697I live where they filmed that. Looks like it was just rainy that day.
Soon I can put 'live on the Death Star planet on my Twitter profile.
>>84123736
Now then, if Anakin (around RotS) was in TFA he would wreck pretty much every situation they're in.
>steals Kylo Ren's shuttle and runs away
>blows up all the turrets and escapes into Jakku
>dodges missiles
>beats up the stormtroopers
>kills two TIEs by ramming into them
>fixes the Falcon
>slices gang members to pieces
>Escapes the First Order
>hyperdrives into the planet (that trick was in fact originally conceived for TPM, to show off kid Anakin's force strength)
>takes down the shields
>blows up the oscillator
>>84124122
Probably
I'll see what I can do
>>84124166
The stunt helmet version always looked so much better, the frown on the Hero one looks so stupid.
>>84123736
I dont understand, unless you're baiting. Who is isnt special from ezras gang? Ezra/Kanaan are force sensitive and Kannan has jedi training and is a clone wars veteran, Sabine, even if she has a bit of a hazy past, is a mandalorian with imperial academy training and she was supposedly first of her class, Zeb is a former lasat honor guard, chopper is a clone wars veteran, and hera is an experienced smuggler/pilot whose father has been sticking it to authorities all his life. Also finn was LITERALLY trained on starkiller base so he knows his way around and rey spent her days scavenging imperial ships with apparently pretty similiar design/tech to first order ships.
>>84123752
What's their album called?
>>84124293
You're leaving out that Sabine is the daughter of a Death Watch member and Poe is the son of two Rebellion fighters.
>>84124354
What if, Sabine's dad is Maul?
>>84124406
She would probably look very different.
>>84123217
Going to see a lot of play as a point filler. Could seriously mess up initial deployment for only 2 points.
>>84123249
This would be much MUCH scarier if it could drop you to 0, but for a cheap price like that, it's a great admiral when you're not focused on the heavy hitters like Screed or Tarkin. Combined with the Interdictor, it can fuck shit up.
>>84123282
Going to be great to go alone side the Gozantis given the command value 1 on a ship as cheap as a squadron. A little high in price though. Glad Fantasy Flight is stepping up their Armada support. Game is fun as fuck but in serious need of more shit and more list variety.
>>84124263
I'm the guy you're replying to.
Of course, I'm happy to see Anakin do extraordinary things because he is the chosen one with the highest power level in the franchise (losing only to Obi-Wan because Obi-Wan is a huge badass too and Anakin was blinded by his rage in the moment). "Revenge of the Sith"-era Anakin doing all the stuff you mentioned from The Force Awakens is SUPER believable.
>>84124293
None of them are special. You see plenty of characters with these types of backstories in The Clone Wars series and they're chumps who die. They never live up to the legendary status of that The Clone Wars-era Jedi or Han Solo.
>>84124422
But maybe that's why her skin is so yellow, she got the same genes as Savage!
>>84122896
Do you think he'll mention fighting for Isis?
>>84124480
She would look like a Dathomirian though.
>>84124506
Heh
I am surprised Disney haven't demanded that they rename that town.
>>84124531
She might have gotten most of her facial structure and such from her mom?
>>84124506
It's Iziz, but the casuals' collective gasp at that would remain the same regardless.
>>84123217
>>84123249
>>84123282
God damn it. I know they probably can't but I was really hoping for Thrawn.
>>84124566
Except that Dathomirian women are pale as fuck though. Not tanned.
>>84124422
Dathomirin Zabrak are wierd. They and reproduce with Nightsisters and the kids come out either Zabrak or not-Zabrak depending on gender.
>>84124329
Ahch-To Baby
>>84124577
Thrawn is more than likely being saved for a future product
they have dug way deeper into the bottom of the EU barrel for imperial peoples
>>84124406
Impossible.
1: She's too old. She would've already been born by the time he came to Manalore.
2: Darth Maul has no reproductive organs.
3: Like some anons have already mentioned, she bears no Dathomiri traits. Sabine's all human.
>>84124664
>>84124422
Lore brings out the autist in us all
>>84124608
But if that was the case, shouldn't she look like a Nightsister?
Speaking of this, what are the Nightsisters, anyway? According to The Clone Wars, they're Zabrak, but other sources - like Uprising - show Zabrak women that look just like Zabrak men.
???
>>84124696
Yes, indeed.
>>84124538
>I am surprised Disney haven't demanded that they rename that town.
They'll just change the pronunciation in all future uses. "hiz-eyez"
>>84124608
It's not Dathomiri-Zabrak now, it's just Dathomiri. Otherwise we'd have to call Nightsisters Dathomiri-Humans.
Dathomiri are a mix between Humans and Zabraks into their own seperate race.
.. They're kinda like mexicans.
>>84124626
Why did they name a planet act two
>>84124636
How is Screed the bottom of the barrel? Unlike Thrawn he was ON TELEVISION. He appeared in 1/3 of all Droids episodes!
>>84124719
>Speaking of this, what are the Nightsisters, anyway?
See >>84124730.
>>84124664
>2: Darth Maul has no reproductive organs.
Somewhere there is a droid running around with organic legs....
That droid is Sabine's father.
>>84124696
Lore brings in the autism for everybody pal.
>>84124774

>>84124750
>Why did they name a planet act two
Son of a...
>>84124590
I'm saying Maul hit it up with a Mandalorian Lady.
That's why Sabine "looks" like a Mandalorian while having yellow skin like a Dathomirian.
>>84124750
>Why did they name a planet act two
Motherfucker
>>84124626
Bless you.
>>84124751
Because unlike Thrawn's stuff, no one wants to remember that Droids was a thing.
>>84124828
Except that Dathomirians are a human/zabrak hybrid. The end result will be the same, a pale lithe woman with amazing legs
