Whole thing is about perspective.
The ordeals on earth with the ogdru-hem, from our perspective they're coming to wipe us out. From their perspective they're just doing what they're meant to as part of the cycle.
Hellboy; from his perspective he was trying to avoid bringing about the end of the world, from hells perspective he brought it about quite well.He still ended a world as far as matters.

Okay, so he's part of the Black School which is a myth from Europe about how wizards learn their magic. He ended up traitoring it up and got tossed in hell. He's trying to get a hold of Abe because (I think) Abe is an 1800's guy possessed by an ancient spell that turned him into a hybrid between humans and the race that's supposed to come after humans (the frog-people?). By capturing Pikachu, I mean Abe, he thinks he'll have a hand in the creation of the new world that'll be born from the ashes of the old one.

I'm still annoyed they dragged out the 19th century scientist-cyborgs with a shiny "new" giant monster killing gun, and the scientist-cyborg along with the gun and the submarine used to build the gun was destroyed in under 2 hours in setting. That has to be a record of some kind.

Actually, thinking about it the weapons of the previous people were a lot more impressive than the ones the BPRD gets to use. No "swords that cut through everything and carry the souls of every warrior who held them", no super lightning flying staffs handed out to every warrior.
