This episode intrigues me. From what I hear the songs are crap but I'm more interested in so many characters all hanging out in one spot and whatever the relevance of this mystery song is supposed to be.
Also Finn sword but that might just be Finn carrying its corpse around for no discernible reason. Now that I think about it it's very weird that he went back to using the root sword, the "Finn" part of the Finn sword being gone shouldn't impact its ability to stab shit. Maybe he just doesn't wanna be reminded of it.

Not lots of jokes, the songs were alright but the only good one was Marceline's and that got interupted half way through, for an episode having most of the major characters in one spot there wasn't too much new interaction, and whatever the fuck the entire deal with Finn and Hole Girl was supposed to be was entirely lost on me. I guess it's good that Finn got so hurt because he can feel shit unlike her? Not a very interesting message I think.
Entire thing just didn't resonate. Glad I didn't really hype this thing up like most other people did. I guess like a 6/10 episode.

I was rewatchin it to better comprehend the situation. I don't think it was meant to be deep either though. Finn got out of that mess, because he was able to acknowledge that he has gone through mess, and seeing that someone who is both sentient and sessile, makes him feel fortunate that he has the ability to be noticed and listened to by others. He looks to Jake, Jake is his best friend, the fact that he has so many friends makes Finn thankful for what he has. It was an odd way to have Finn learn this I'll admit. But the show has always had odd characters and situations.

I love lots of episodes but Dad's Dungeon is always the top for me.
Got kickass Finn and Jake chemistry, the bros busting up a dungeon in classical fashion, good humor, awesome monsters and traps, a kickass finale, and an emotional core of Finn and Joshua to tie it all together.
It has that whole "seemingly sweet on the surface and scary and sad underneath" with Finn and Jake walking into the sunset at the end of the episode while musing about their dead dad.
It's the epitome of the series to me. Helps that it was one of the few episodes Pen Ward was heavily involved in directly writing.

If you can't see the undertones of it then perhaps you're just being willfully ignorant. The Lamp episode with Ice King is very prominent of pretentious messages. I like Adventure Time a ton, love it, and Season 7 has been great. It's just sometimes tries to be deep but falls flat.

This episode felt kind of pointless? I mean, Finn was upset when Finn sword broke but that was episodes ago and he's been doing pretty fine since then. Then, with the whole event to cheer things up, it just felt force that they have this whole catalog of plans to make Finn happy; like there's a reason they're doing this outside of being friends. It would have been much better if Finn had just been kind of bummed about Finn Sword and Jake was trying to cheer him up with some old Adventure Magazine, and an ad for a Battle of the Bands and Finn says that's kind of neat. So, Jake gets PB to host the event. Finn wakes up hearing music, and when he asks Jake what it is, he tells him it's the BoTB and that Finn is gonna be a judge. Finn doesn't really wanna do it, but does it not to let Jake down. He judges, but he keeps hearing this different music clashing and keeps trying to escape his chair to chase after it, but Jake keeps pushing him back. Maybe during Marceline's song, it's super emotional so Jake cries, and Finn uses that time to switch with a poorly made Dummy? And he runs after the music, and finds the hole singing. It tells him the same sort of story, but how only those who need comfort in the moment can hear her. They have a little duet, heart to heart, and Jake finds Finn crying happily. Jake is concerned, but Finn smiles and goes back to judge the rest of the competition. Then the episode ends with Finn and Jake seeing a giant Candy Kingdom moshpit.Although, an Adventure Time battle royale would be FAR more interesting...
