Phantom Lady General
So about that recommended reading list we were gonna make for this bitch...
What would be the recommended stories for each version of the character?
Just post more art until someone responds.
>>84002170
Sounds like a plan.
Considering the limited amount of appearances each iteration has had, all of it is the easy way to go.
>>84003480
Aye
>>83999666
I have this reprint somewhere, it's one of the 90's ones I'm pretty sure. The AH cover of the Wertham-used PL issue is the highlight.
>>83999666
Who has the publication rights of this, anyway?
>>84005076
These are just public domain Fox reprints by Verotik.
>>84005162
I see. Thanks.
>>84005175
No problem. As far as I can remember the reprints are from Phantom Lady #14-#17 and All Top #9 & #12. Also has a few more Adam Hughes illustrations.
>>84005360
Has anyone tried to use her in new stories?
I mean, it is public domain, right? Anyone can have that character in their stories without any problems.
>>84005457
Not really. Even though DC don't own that specific iteration of the character, they seem to be very litigious when it comes to her use. Even though they rarely use her themselves.
>>84005457
yeah some did.
So which version of PL does everyone prefer? My favourite is the Matt Baker version from the Fox Comics.
>>84008082
This.
>>84008082
the one with the massive tits.
To the Anon making the Rec image. Which logo we thinking? Classic?
>>83999666
Adam Hughes draws such small hips.
>>84009027
Dodson fills her out much nicer.
>>84008947
We could make one for each version of the character with their version of the logo to go with them.
>>84010653
I thought that originally but Dee and Stormy never had solo titles, so no logos for either of them.
Here she is in an early Paragon Book before DC Lawyered up. Also Contains a 6 page original story.
>>84010698
Wasn't there a feature in Action Comics Weekly?
Dee was is #636-641
>>84012329
Someone could clean that up and we'd just need one for stormy.
>>84003928
I'd say all of Quality, Ajax, and Fox is mandatory reading for Sandra. I assume the Multiverse and Convergence appearances were her and are pretty solid. Of course, Starman #44.
For Dee I'd just say her first appearance? Did she really do anything until she was killed in Infinite Crisis?
For Stormy it would just be the Freedom Fighters run. Did she ever appear in anything besides those nine issues?
Jen was only in the four issues that were story timed in the last thread so... there's those.
The only thing I'm fuzzy about are the Silver Age Freedom Fighters issues. The first appearance of the team in Justice League is good but has anyone read the actual Freedom Fighters series?
If it's like that Justice League Animated story where she was background boobs then let's leave that out.
>>84012431
Stormy was in the two volumes of Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters and a post Infinite Crisis mini called Battle for Bludhaven. Jenny was in the Human Bomb mini, haven't read it though.
>>84005457
Erik Larsen sometimes has her showing up in Savage Dragon (cause he brought in all the PD Golden Age superheroes) but it's pretty rare.
If you use her it's probably recommended you go with the Fox Comics design since DC never really uses that one.

Bill Black of AC Comics said this:
>DC claimed they owned the name Phantom Lady and, in 1983, Dick Giordano (then DC editor) called me and asked me to cease and desist the use of the name. Big company pressuring a little company… I was just starting up, so I rolled over on this. I later discovered that DC had not and COULD NOT trademark the name Phantom Lady. But by then I had re-created the character as Nightveil. All this was a good thing because Nightveil has become such a great character far exceeding Phantom Lady in any incarnation.
>Phantom Lady general is actually happening
>>84012431
Should we organize it by publisher, by chronological appearance, or by what Earth the story takes place on?
>>84012553
Oh, and the rest of the article:
>Well, Fox eventually went under as well. In 1956, DC purchased the rights to Quality’s characters, but Phantom Lady continued to be printed in reprints of the Fox Comics (not counting Israel Waldman’s infamous unauthorized reprints).
>DC, however, felt that the transfer to Fox was illegitimate, and that DC owned the rights to the Phantom Lady character, just as it owned all the other Quality characters.
>Here is where the trademark problem comes into play – the works were clearly now out of copyright, as they had not been renewed in the years between when they stopped being printed and when DC purchased the rights (1956) and the time DC told Black to cease and desist (which would be the early 80s). However, since the comics had been printed (via reprints) during this time, DC could not claim a so-called “traditional” trademark on the character, which is what someone would avail themselves of if they never bothered to register their trademark. DC could not use this because DC was not publishing the character during these years, and one of the hallmarks of trademark law is that, to be effective, you have to actual USE the trademark, and not just in a comic, but on the market (for instance, you would have to publish a comic using the trademark). DC did not do this. In addition, DC never tried to register Phantom Lady as a trademark, either, which it DID do with Plastic Man and Blackhawk.
AC still put out reprints till around 2011, in Men of Mystery.
>>84012971
The fact that AC Comics still exists (or at least existed until recently?) is mindboggling.
>>84013302
Looking at their site, are they a... blog now?
>>84013302
They are still publishing Femforce (although more an anthology title now), and pre-code horror reprints.
If we are doing a seperate graphic for each PL does Jen really need a whole one to herself? I checked the Human Bomb mini, she's on 1 page, not worth putting on it.
Phantom Lady has nice stories.
She's not all about fanservice!
Phantom Lady vs Black Orchid
>>84015227
Then why are nearly all the images in this thread cheesecake?
Not saying that tits are bad, mind you. But can you list reasons outside of the big two why Phantom Lady is so important, more than any other of the Freedom Fighters?
>>84015483
I'd say it's more the fact she was one of the first female "superheroes" in comics. That and obviously her history interests people due to its uncertainty. The tits just come from the uproar that was caused during the SOIT era.
>>84015567
Still, the whole "first superheroine with copyright issues" thing isn't mentioned as much as the tits.
I mean, we have many other public domain heroes. Which ones got the most threads? Cat and Kitten, and all of it was /ss/.
Here's a quick storytime of er first appearance from Police comics #1
>>84015692
Short but sweet. I'll try doing more in the future if the threads stay alive.
>>84015637
I like how they're a stone's throw away from the explosion.
>Hey do you feel a weird feeling like, tiny teeth are gnawing on bone marrow?
>>84015722
Yes! These scans are pretty nice quality, too. It's amazing how a short story like this can cover more narrative space than current cape fare. A different kind of story telling, almost like modern stuff tries to be more cinematic.
>>84015637
Well! There goes a pound of TNT!
>>84015722
>Stop that!
Classic.
>>84015722
Nice scan quality.
>>84016425
Not my scans but yeah they are really nice and vibrant.
Might aswell do a few more. They all around the same page count,
>>84015483
Personally I like the idea of a character without super powers who could live a comfortable life in high society and be oblivious of the world around her but decides to single-handedly take on corruption and injustice in a war on crime. Her stories have a tone and cadence to them that gets lost on characters like fem Thor, She Hulk, Wonder Woman, and even Black Canary. She only has her wits and her black ray projector and goes out in a swimsuit every night to fight Nazis and criminal scum. Even her skimpy costume shows a cunning that unique from other characters-- it isn't her mother's armor or a biker outfit, it's a weapon against her male foes. She's aware of her sexuality and commands it in a way that disarms and overwhelms enemies. In a lot of ways she's more forwardly progressive than the characters Marvel and DC create to pander to audiences crying for feminist heroes. She isn't caught up in some us vs them debate she just wants to do right by people and protect the little person who can't stand up or themselves. Sometimes that means getting into a dogfight with ace Luftwaffe pilots and sometimes that means swashbuckling to defend the territory of her comic pages from cameo appearances by other characters, but she's always been at the front lines encouraging people to fight for what they believe in. Phantom Lady is the coolest damn gal in funnybooks. She's more than just a character, she's an icon.
>>84016840
Where are you getting these scans from? Everywhere I look they're teensy little pixelated things but yours are robust hi res doosies.
>>84016874
I got them from the digital comic museum. You have to sign up but its totally free.
>>84016940
They have them individually broken down or are you sifting through Police Comics for just the Phantom Lady stories?
Do they have Plastic Man stories too?
>>84017166
Im taking out the PL stories, Plastic Man is in there yeah.
>>84017289
Since the trademarks are an open range couldn't one just collect all the Phantom Lady stories and republish them? I'm seeing that's happened a couple times but they're all super expensive.
>>84017328
Lookin kinda like Meiko Kaji there Sandra
>>84017430
I think that'll do me tonight, more exciting adventures when I wake up.
>>84017351
The Roy Thomas collected books retail about £30/$45 but you should be able to find them for less. They are amazing quality and its great value, the amount of issues in each,
>>84017479
Thanks Anon! These old golden age comics are so crazy but I'm feeling it. I hadn't ever heard of Phantom Lady until these threads started popping up but I'm definitely becoming a fan. Have a good night!
>>84017573
Thanks hopefully the thread is still around, will be looking out for the Rec list if any Anon is working on it. I pretty much own or have digital copies of everything she's in but it'll be good to spread the word on such a classic character,
>>84017882
If this goes to the archive then in true Phantom Lady fashion we'll just make another!
I really like the line work of this one and the whole Dr. Strangelove vibe with her riding the bomb.
>Heart Baker
>Matt Baker
Thas the stuff
>ask Dan Parent to draw Betty & Veronica as superheroes
>Instead of easy pick Wonder Woman he draws Phantom Lady
Was the movie any good?
>blue and red
I like
>laser gun and future armor
Eh okay
>>84019308
Looks good
Bumpski
>>84020886
Thank you
Are these the same scans on comicbookplus/digitalcomicmuseum?
>>84018769
Only decent thing that talentless faggot has ever drawn.
>>84021885
Don't think so, the comic book plus ones are nice but not this nice. I was wondering if anon was making his own private Phantom Lady archive and tweaking scans to optimal quality.
>>84021989
Then where the fuck is he getting them?
>>84022897
Guy said the digital comic museum. Guess they got that good Phantom Lady shit over there.
>>84023229
Yeah, but >>84021885
said both Comic Book Plus and Digital Comic Museum.
>>84021989
Sometimes they'll have new scans of a comic up, they're trying to constantly update as much as possible.
>>84023229
Just got them straight from the DCM. Didn't change anything, they just really nice scans.
>>84025287
They have Phantom Lady "archive" compilations at comicbookplus. Are those not using the same scans?
>>84025518
I'm not even sure, I think the ones I'm grabbing from DCM might be more recent than those. I did get a torrent with those archive versions, I just haven't compared them yet.
>>84025518
Cool
>>84027077
A really nice issue. And pre 9/11 towers.
What is her draw other than being a whore?
bump for interest
>>84027684
Cool design, cool weapon/gimmick, classic era/aesthetic, association with other awesome Golden Age characters, ACTUAL vigilante crime fighter (as opposed to these characters that just have oddball adventures only fight other supers instead of stopping/solving actual fucking crime).
Goggles PL >>>>>>> non-goggles PL
>>84028289
The goggles are cool, but I'd go with the classic version personally.
>>84028277
And the lack of clothes.
>>84028469
That too.
>>84027077
What issue is it?
>>84028703
Superman & Batman - World's Funnest
Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite destroy the universe, travel to alternate universe and then destroy/fuck up them as well
Different artist for each scene, including Cho and a ton of other big names
Recommended reading
>>84028753
Sounds good I'll check it out.
>>84028328
Nah, goggles or bust
>>84028840
Jaime Hernandez marvel family.
>>84028753
Cool, added to the rec list
>>84029573
She's only in one scene IIRC.
>>84029706
Yeah but if it's a Frank Choice scene. love his yum yums
>>84029287
I'm more a Beto fan, but it's always good to see either of them outside l&r.
Right a little later then hoped but here is a few more PL strips from Police Comics. Staring with #7
>>84030836
#10
>>84030886
Another quick one for now. Will do 11-23 over Sunday/Monday and then onto Fox Syndicate issues.
Are these from the same batch of scans are the others?
>>84030929
Yeah I just grabbed the best quality versions i could find.
>>84030947
Has anyone confirmed if those are the same scans as what's included in the Phantom Lady Archives compilations from comicbookplus or not?
>>84030904
Thank you.
>>84030904
Glad you're keeping this up. Thanks for you efforts!
>>84031010
They are different but the comicbookplus ones have some neat back-up material that's worth reading.
http://comicbookplus.com/?cid=1036
>>84025518
It could be they've changed the scans. Sometimes they update them.
>>84031789
The scans on DCM seem to all come from different sources (depends on who had the physical copy to scan) I don't know who contributed to the archive though, haven't had time to check them out yet. I will either tomorrow or Sunday.
>>84030086
Agreed
>>84026817
Nice
>>84026817
But Bettie Paige didn't start modeling until after Phantom Lady showed up
>>84032787
So?
>>84033041
So it is historically inaccurate. It would be like someone with the faux-40's and 50's bangs trend that's popular right now dressing in the costume. The anachronism is all wrong.
>>84031887
The one and only.
>>84033340
Eh... Not bothered by it.
>>84033340
That's the funny thing about doing period piece superhero stuff; a lot of these superheroes existed for decades and in the yeas the period piece places them in. And often they hammer in the pop culture/stereotypical portrayal of that era in, even though if you look at the comics from that era themselves, they don't reflect that.
Adam Hughes really likes drawing Phantom Lady. What is he even up to these days? Betty and Veronica?
>>84034193
Is it bad to say I'm excited to read it? It's been so long since he did internals on anything but a mini series.
>>84034087
The appeal of the character is the sense of nostalgia she invokes. I doubt very many of the "fans" who have posted in this thread have actually read those early 1940's comics they just see her big tits and are into the idea of a sexy old comics character like hipsters. But I also think she's such an enigma and has such a spotty past that you kind of have to be a super fan of comics to appreciate her.
Phantom Lady is patrician tier.
>>84034265
It's okay with me. Adam is a stellar draftsman and his work is always clean.
He's slower than shit, though.
>>84034193
That is a nice fucking drawing.
>>84034271
I'd really love to own at least one original issue. However not very likely unless I shell out on ebay or go to the US and look out dealers.
>>84034271
She's interesting historically for her role in the "Good girl" comics fad of the late 40's and for the fact that Matt Baker was perhaps the first true black comics creator who reached superstar status. Shame he died so young, he would probably have produced some great stuff in the silver age as well
>>84035122
Sad. RIP matt
>>84035332
yep, fuck you heart attacks.Between him and Joe Maneely there was so much talent lost just before the rebirth of comics in the late 50's opened the floodgates.
>>84035370
Another one was Jack Cole he took his life at 43.
>>84035370
You guys know that he worked with Stan not long before he passed ... But being serious, his volume of work is amazing I've been hunting down as much of it as I can. Just got the complete Canteen Kate reprints this morning. Should have some Rulah and Mysta coming aswell.
>>84035480
Fucking horrible, Plastic Man was one of the best golden age comics.
>>83999666
OP from the previous thread. When I make the last thread I would never imagined it will have this impact. Thanks /co/mrades. Make Phantom Lady great again.
>>84035650
We will build a pair of tits for the whole world to see.
>>84001843
This is my fave pic so far.
>>84005457
Alright /co/ given Phamton Lady situation, what would you prefer, full public domain or DC having the complete rights of the characters? What would you prefer anons, be honest
>>84010815
Man that ouftit rules! It's kind of JoJo.
>>84012580
First publisher, then earth.
>>83999666
>>84001843
Does anyone have a rundown of her costume history including all the weird independent versions of her? Green/yellow vs blue/red, goggles/no goggles, blacklight projector on the wrist or portable, the Nightveil thing...
>>84035732
Honestly I'd wish DC would do a solo series with her. That would be the best, I can't see what people would do with her as public domain, I mean hardly anyone does anything with public domain people. Then again I don't exactly trust DC to do her justice, it would have to be a dream team to pull it off.
>>84018745
How does the little box in her hand works?
>>84035732
Public domain. The last few attempts by DC have been lackluster and I worry for what new direction they would go in to make the character fresh and exciting. If someone could just do a webcomic or publish through a smaller house I'd be okay with that. Someone without an editor cramming company policy down her throat.
As far as the story goes, I'm not sure. Id like more spy fun but having her as a full on legacy character would be cool too. Something to do with Multiversity and her different timelines.
>>84036055
Phantom lady unrelated. I forgot dc once try to publish webcomics.
DC entered the world of webcomics with 2007's Zuda Comics, which not only saw the publisher offer all-new webcomics, but also invite submissions from new creators to join the site. Zuda lasted until 2010, when DC began to release titles digitally through comiXology and shuttered the imprint to focus on digital releases instead of webcomics.
Signature Book: Jeremy Love's award-winning Bayou, a magical realist take on the myths and horrors of the American South in the 1930s.
Lasting Legacy: Bayou along with another series, High Moon, continued as digital releases for some time after the closing of Zuda, and print collections of both series remain available.
>>84035547
Very sad.
>>84036143
DC's digital releases were pretty good sometimes
>>84036055
>We will never get Plastic Man and Phantom lady series
>>84036520
Agreed. No idea what will replaced injustice.Injustice 2 year oneI miss smallville season 11.
>>84020886This makes me moist.
We need to attract drawfags somehow
>>84036983
But a good one
>>84036983
What do you want? I can turn something out tonight
>>84038402
Your own rendition of Phantom Lady. Any version that exists, or a redesign of your own choice.
What she would look like for a comic made today might be a fun idea?
>>84038574
That looks nice
>>84038588
Okay I'll play around and see what shakes out
If anyone has a higher resolution version of this it would be very appreciated
>>84038402
Can I friendly request Phantom Lady doing a JoJo pose? Anyone you want.
>>84040939
I'm inking the other one but after that I'll try to do a JoJo pose before the thread dies!
>>84041229
Thanks based anon
>>84040623
The end.
>>84041870
Thank you for posting that. If the /co/ rec list ever gets made that issue is probably the best Phantom Lady story. Is the rest of Starman like that, like single issue stories?
>>84042219
A shazam crossover also batman/hellboy/starman
>>84038402
Okay lads, you seem to like the Frank Cho builds the best so I hope this works.
I like her red and blue costume and just mixed and matched different elements of costumes in this thread.
>>84003480
I like the trim on her cape in this one
>>84006317
Gotta keep that black light projector like a little phone. The wrist mount is cool but I like it being a device she pulls out of her mini purse. Also the collar is cool
>>84016515
The length of her hair changes a little in every story but I like it being higher than her shoulders
>>84026817
Her bangs in this one are kind of neat. I guess Phantom Lady predates Bettie Paige but since I didn't do the goggle she needs something happening in her face area
In the Baker stories the thingie on her belt is a gold bar with PL on it but I think the CRIME NEVER PAYS! badge on all the covers is pretty funny so I decided to base the buckle on that
I'd go for a thinner look but we love the Cho meat here so there we go. If anyone has suggestions for tweaks I'd love to make them!
Many thanks to Preacher Anon for story timing in these threads! They're the driving force behind /co/'s recent rediscovery of Phantom Lady and I can't possibly express how grateful I am to them for sharing their Phantom Lady collection!
>>84043505
You welcome

>>84044469
It looks like Phantom Lady is a purely American phenom. The rest of the world hates freedom too much to get her.
>>84035942
It's like a flashlight but dark
>>84043505
I just wish I had more time at the weekends to get through the golden age stuff. Going to marathon it tomorrow hopefully get the police comics run finished.
>>84045080
I'm Scottish, we invented muh freedoms.
>>84042219
It's mostly a continuing story but there are more "Times Past" issues that focus on the history of various characters.
>>84047567
Starman is great.

Ok I just read the 2012 phantom lady and doll man mini and I'm having a lot of difficulty reconciling it with the larger city
>>84048335
Pretty decent sad that she banished.
>>84047567
The pirate issues are sweet
Bump..

Does anyone have any other Golden Age cuties that they like, didn't have to be heroes. I'm quite fond of Torchy, Black Cat and Chili from Millie the Model. Also nothing wrong with a good Jungle Girl comic.
>>84052086
Frank Choice did a Jungle Girl comic a few years ago. I don't even think there was dialogue
Does anyone know where to get her Silver Age appearances or a run of the Freedom Fighters? I'm looking for the Justice League two-parter as well.
>>84052086
>Millie the Model
This reminds me of Swing With Scooter
>>84052142
Shanna yeah it's a great homage to the old jungle stuff. I think he's working on a sequel but no idea when I'd be out. It seems a lot of the best pinup guys have a thing for jungle comics. Frank, Budd Root, Art Adams all love their apes and girls.
>>84052086
Miss Masque
>>84052639
Try on kat.cr for the freedom fighters run I think I got the JL issues from libgen.io
Valkyrie
Harlequin

The green one's hoodie is fucking sick
I think that's the end of my golden age waifu dump
I lied, one more.
>>84053138
Phantom Lady has the same burning star design on her necklace. Was that a common accessory in the 40's of was there something else going on?
Let's see.

>>84053546
I prefer Hedy Devine myself.
>>84053640
Not to be an attention whore but I wanted to make a couple changes from last night. And I think I like it more without color. Super jelly of how the artists on these can use lines so minimally and still imply depth and form:

>>84054998
Best there ever was.
>>84055077
Agreed.
>>84053733
B&W definitely gives it a more retro vibe.
Were there other issues of Starman that spotlighted Golden Age characters?
>>84057062
But that doesn't make sense though since the old comics were in color.
>>84057236
Not all of them. Plus a lot of reprints are just line art.
>>84057075
Yes, golden age callbacks are kind of Robinson's thing.
>>84058060
Totally. He's as much an antiques dealer as Jack was
Who would make a good live action PL? Not that DC Would ever pull their finger out and make a Freedom Fighters movie. Jeff Bridges would make a great Uncle Sam.
>>84059068
Bruh they're making a Phantom Lady after Justice League.
Eva Green would be a nice pick but they'll probably go younger so Daddario?
>>84059119
I could see that or maybe Alison Brie.
>>84059068
For some reason, Meghan Fox came to mind. She's probably old enough to have the gravitas, the right sultriness, and physical form...
>>84059229
Ja she pretty
>>84059399
Fox isn't right at all. She's too cardboard and stuck up. Sandra has a playful attitude and a dry wit, I always hear Audrey Plaza's voice when she pisses on Don.

It's good, but it's not based on the comics character - it's based on an unrelated Cornell Woolrich novel. Steranko did a cover for an early 2000s reprint of it.

Can I pretend Phantom Lady is undercover and using a fake name?
So has/can this devolve into a golden age waifu thread?
>>84061294
I think it's the topic we've been building towards so go ahead. Matt Baker was so fucking brilliant, its such a shame he's so unknown.

>>84068467
Can't seem to stop this juggernaut.
>>84069025
Hey now someone wanted a fun pose and I'm loving these Phantom Lady threads lately.
I was watching an episode of Shark Week earlier about the Fantome Rookin, this shark that's rumored to wreck things in the Louisiana bayous. If real it would apparently be over 100 years old. Undoubtedly it's just a myth but the idea that there's this natural force of fuck you lurking in the shadows is pretty kewl. Phantom Lady is that shark; coming out from the depths of the void to fuck things up for a while before disappearing again.
>>84058060
Is that Shade? Too bad the New52 series was so shit. Every appearance of everyone major in Starman after the series was so out of place and forced.
>>84069277
You do know we're going to get drawfags doing anthro-shark phantom lady lewds now.
>>84069277
Oh I wasn't complaining in anyway. Any contribution in here is more than welcome and appreciated.

>>84071932
>Sandra Knight was the crusading Phantom Lady, smashing crime in the 1940s until she busted up the crime ring of creole mobster Baron leRouge and got him 20/life
>Little did the masked crimefighter know that the crimeboss' frail, ancient mother was a powerful voodoo priestess and the real power behind his criminal empire
>Incensed by her boy being put in prison and her business shattered, Mama LeRogue took a terrible vengeance on Phantom Lady
>Using a horrifying voodoo spell, long forbidden and forgotten, the ancient crone transformed Sandra Knight into a huge shark and cursed her to roam the bayous forever
>Seemingly immortal, the Phantom Shark waits to this day, lurking in the dank foetid waters, hoping someone can break the spell on her
I don't know anything about phantom lady where should I start?
>>84072129
If you want the very start, we are having a golden age story time in this thread. Silver age go for freedom fighters. More modern, uncle dan and the Freedom Fighters or the Phantom lady and doll man mini. Although most of these are different versions of the character.
>>84072242
Uncle Sam*
>>84068467
Great job.
>>84072242
>Although most of these are different versions of the character.
Yeah, that what I gathered from the different designs. which one is a most enjoyable?
>>84072496
Personal preference really. My fave is Sandra followed by Stormy. Dee is OK but didn't get much spotlight outside the action comics run and an issue of the flash. Jennifer was only in that 1 mini, so not really much to go on.
>>84072242
>Phantom lady and doll man mini
That kinda sucked.
>>84073139
It did. I recently read the stormy run in freedom fighters where she was a total drunk and opened a portal in the middle of a guy they were fighting, while holding a bottle of whisky.
>>84072248
Just ignore new 52 version.
>>84073897
Anything post-New 52, pre-Rebirth from DC is garbage except for Multiversity and MAYBE Aquaman and/or Green Lantern.
>>84074332
wonder woman's first arc in the new 52 is actually really enjoyable from the art to the story. I got really disappointed when they change the artist in the next arc for a more jim lee kind of style. so I don't know if the rest of the story is any good.

Right as promised, going to continue our trip to the Golden-Age of PL. So sit back and relax as I take you all to Sept 1941.Starting with Police Comics #11
Imagine a full length Phantom Lady comic drawn by Frank Cho.

>>84084803

Commissions, commercial work, and storyboarding all pay better than comics. That's why almost every artist that can draw at a high level has either left the medium or only does covers.
The anons who story time in these threads are so amazing. No one I've mentioned Phantom Lady to has ever heard of her so it's cool seeing you guys share the og Baker stories with /co/. I can't wait for you to get to the Fox stories and beyond
>>84085986
Cute
Hey all, I'm thinking about making a Phantom Lady short for Premier Pulp's new issue. You can read the kind of material Premier likes over here >>84053287
Thinking horror but a lot of people popped into the chat and said they wanted to go with that genre so I'd be open to different ideas. What would you want from a new Phantom Lady series of short stories? Going more a Golden Age stand alone direction than continuing serial.
Does anybody have a recommended reading list or image for Phantom Lady?
Or should that be a goal for this general?
>>84088592
Her appearances are so few that it might be better to just link people these threads in the archive. Seriously, there's the Police Comics run (above), the Fox run (next thread) and Ajax (hit or miss, it's like five issues so you may as well read them to round out the experience)
Then you get to Dee, and while gloriously 80's the stories she's in are pretty sub-par and she just sort of sluts around until getting killed by Deathstroke.
Storm was cool but also showed up for a total of about nine or ten issues and then disappeared. You can find working dl links for her appearances in the archive.
The Jen Knight stories are... a contemporary take on the character and Doll Man was actually kind of neat. As neat as a tiny man with laser guns can be.
The Multiverse appearances are solid but she's a background character and only gets like two lines. I guess I could whip up a rec image but really in like three days it's going to be easier to just link to past threads.
Although... if we made a rec image and then made the next general a story timing of all her best appearances that might be fun.
The fun and interesting part of doing a rec list would be collating all of her appearances in different publishers books and mapping out the multiverse beyond DC's cosmos.
>>84088773
A wikipedia page digests it all,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_Lady
I might start there.
There are some fucked up chronology pages out there too.
>>84089037
That works but wikipedia is boring and I like it when /co/ makes things.
>>84088773
There's also her tie to American, and comic book history as one of Wertham's targets.

>>84090351

>>84090448
No viruses or anything, and you may need a proxy, depending where you are, but it's an oldschool archive.

>>84090619

How's the progress on that rec chart?
>>84091580
I think the first step is a complete works chart. Then as these threads go on, we can develop our favorites list as we go.
>>84088773
Hey anon just a heads up. Stormy appeared in around 33 issues. The Bludhaven mini, freedom fighters and Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters vol 1&2.
>>84091666
>>84091580

>>84092487

A quick Storytime from All Star Comics 80-page Giant. Staring PL , Wonder Woman and Liberty Belle

>>84094166
Even when she gets told she still puts her spin on it. She's always proudly lived in her own world, I guess.
>>84092639
Should add Flash #29 to Dee's list
>>84092639
Isn't Phantom Lady and Doll Man kind of shit though? Should that really be on a recommended reading list?
And putting stories that she's barely in is kind of questionable.
Also, where's Starman? Or All Star Comics 80-page Giant?
And is there any need to list a reprint, especially since it's of a single (short) story?
>>84095083
>Isn't Phantom Lady and Doll Man kind of shit though? Should that really be on a recommended reading list?
Its the only story for that character so just there by default.
>And putting stories that she's barely in is kind of questionable.
That may be but for a long time Dee and Sandra have jsut been used as background characters since DC doesn't seem to know what to do with her outside large team stories.
>Also, where's Starman? Or All Star Comics 80-page Giant?
These will be ammended in future versions I'd imagine.
>And is there any need to list a reprint, especially since it's of a single (short) story?
Its only "reprinted" as a PL story, was never meant to be her in the first place. Probably just an example of how characters were thrown about back in the day.
I'll have to wait till the next thread to get on with the GA storytime but it's been a pleasure /PLG/. Doesn't look like we'll run out of steam anytime soon.
>>84095726
Thank you so much anon.
>>84095129
>Its only "reprinted" as a PL story, was never meant to be her in the first place.
Then it's probably not something that should be on the list.
Goodbye everyone.comfy thread.
>>84095129
>for a long time Dee and Sandra have jsut been used as background characters
Doesn't mean we should include background appearances in a recommendation image.
>>84096901
>>84096921
Why don't you try putting effort into making a better list instead of criticising Anons that contribute.
>>84096969
Feedback is how these rec pics get made, dude.
This flummery is why I thought we should start with a complete list, the read together and develop recommendations that way.
>>84098200
Feel free to try that approach in the next thread.
>>84098222
I do feel free. I'm on it.
>>84094395
Is it worth reading? I was kinda going for a best hits list more than just copy pasting her wiki appearances
>>84098809
It's actually pretty good yeah.
>>84098870
Hm I guess if it adds to the list more than just her origin and death
>>84099045
Definitely she has a personality in it, unlike her cameo in the man of steel annual where she is a literal t&a and unconscious most of it.
>>84099161
