If the TV panel layout reminds you of Frank Miller, it's worth noting that when this was being made Miller, Chaykin and Walt Simonson shared a studio.

This series ruined him in a sense: most of his other original series that came afterward (i.e. not the Shadow) continually reused characters, thematic and plot elements from AF! and the comparison wasn't always flattering.
