Absolutely. As much as I loved Wakfu, they just did a better job with Dofus overall, although it's a different style/approach. With the disappointment that was the OVAs, it's hard to have high expectations for season 3, but they're the same studio and writers who made the movie, so there's hope.
Also agree regarding the cast. The whole Tristepin/Eva thing has gone way too far and they don't belong in an adventuring party anymore. Ruel is barely there anymore, and Yugo was never the most interesting character. With his newfound angst and lack of judgment, I feel like Amalia is the only one that can still bring something new and interesting to the party, and I've never been particularly fond of her.
Add to that the fact that they're going to face off against demigods and whatnot once again and keep the door open to more power creep, and it's hard not to be wary.

I don't know how many writers they had, but it's true I was surprised how they managed to make about 50 episodes with always different themes and characters (minus a few repetitions like the "aventuriers de chacharme" episodes with Lou). Even Wakfu had a pretty good variety of stories in its villain-of-the-week segments, it's just that they overstayed their welcome.
I think another important difference between Dofus and Wakfu is that the group dynamics in Wakfu don't evolve nearly as much. Tristepin got the girl and made peace with Rubilax. Ruel learned to value his friends above personal gain. Yugo found out where he came from. But most of that happened by the Rubilaxia arc and now things are fairly static other than Adamai turning coats and Amalia growing into her responsibilities.
Dofus, on the other hand, showed us Kerub's evolution throughout several periods of his life, as well as his relationships with a few important side characters (Lou, Indie, Squale, Luis, his old crew...). It put a lot more focus on personal growth and you were always learning a bit more about him and the people who mattered in his life, organically.
Perhaps that's why Ankama's comics that aren't centered on the BoT are the more interesting ones (IMO); they give us a chance to meet new people, see the WoT from a new perspective, instead of just going through "BoT adventure #65" knowing that ultimately the characters will come out of it unchanged.
How many comics are there? I only read the one in the desert and the one with the weird half-breed who loved Amalia.

Yeah, Ankama is really weird with the group. As fans complained, Ruel doesn't do much anymore but they don't seem to have the heart to oust him or make an effort to write him doing stuff. They cannot bring themselves to not do stuff with Grovy and i think that's getting tiring even though I like the character. I find thegod thinga bit too much. Eva's character is pretty strictly tied to Grovy. There was a chance develop her and her past in season 2 but they blew it for love triangle shenanigans. Like Ruel, they don't have the heart to bench them or replace them.
Amalia is weird because they kind of do stuff with her and getting her involved with the plot due to shit happening to Sadida, but sometimes they're like "eh" about it. They're not dropping Yugo because he's the main character and the lynch pin that brings everyone together. He was charming but bland in the first two seasons and i think they're trying to add depth but as you said, it's just bland angst that you see with other shonen protags.

Good point. When they give characters some alone time for their own arcs, we can truly see them shine. Even when it was just Ruel taking off in Ruel's Bag, even though the group followed, it was all focused on him and it worked really well. But as you said, they seem unable to just remove members of the group that aren't relevant anymore and that staleness is bringing everything down. We got many episodes that were either focused on Yugo where everyone else was just there to help in the fights, or villains of the week where the main cast could have been replaced entirely without much difference.

Wakfu was a serial show that got hamstrung by a lot of filler that didn't really add anything. Dofus was an episodic show but almost every episode let the audience learn something about a character (usually Kerub), which informed viewers why they were the sort of person that they were. It's not so much character development as it is character revalation and it's the reason Keke is the most well written character in the whole franchise.

I liked Treasures of Kerub, but I didn't like the Julith movie so much. Not sure how the (newer) cast is more interesting. Especially with Lilotte getting benched on hostage duty.
Bakara and Khan are basically what would happen if Sadlygrove and Evangeline spent 100% of their time horn dogging over each other instead of character development with any of the other team members. Probably an unpopular opinion, but the amount of fan service was a bit much. The writers are usually more "nudge nudge wink wink" while the movie was more "ALAS, ONLY THY SUPPLE LIPS COULDST DOUSE THE FIRE WHAT BURNS IN MY ENGORGED LOINS".
Bakara was bizarrely brutal too, to the point that I despised her. Cool, subvert the typical "love interest has a change of heart after rescue". But I mean fuck, she reacts with utter indifference to his likely demise/peril THREE times. Dude was being fucking eaten alive twice and she just goes "Vermin die hard" or something. Holy fuck lady, the poor guy can't even escape that dimension with his own power in the first place and she has no qualms about abandoning him there.
The final kick in the pants is her hypocrisy. Sure, dislike Khan because he's a flirty conceited douchebag but shit - at least he's actually good at boufbowl. Bakaras sin is hubris, but as a hero she sucks ass. She hands the ivory dofus to Julith, almost kills Joris and succeeded in killing Atcham.
I honestly wouldn't mind if the pair got cut and more Dofus shit just focused on Joris, Lilotte, Kerub and Atcham exploring the world on Louis. We know at least three of those characters are extremely relevant to what's going down in Wakfu too, so it's better to develop them.

While the flirting was too much in the movie, love interests in any adventure movie usually bother me so I guess I'm used to letting it slide. Bakara really was tough to grasp, though. Dofus is a lot bigger than Wakfu because each of its episodes was its own story instead of one overall arc. Dofus+the movie was a whole lot more world building than Wakfu was and it tore up your heart sometimes to. Wakfu was great but it focused more on the characters instead of the world around them, which was good, but Dofus was more fun.

This is what this movie does right in terms of video game movies. It's pacing is perfect when it comes to slowing down for some exposition and character development/establishment but not too slow that it becomes a yawnfest. The action transitioning is also properly well done to speed up the pace so that the audience doesn't loose interest. I fucking love that about Ankama storytelling.
