You have to recall any big fight that happened had issues of build up before payoff. The Invincible army and Conquest both had Angstrom and the Viltrumites probing Mark before engaging, the Viltrumite War happened after all the investigation and reveal that Thaedus was a Viltrumite. All stuff people don't recall or care about until the conclusion.
Everything except the battle on Thraxa I guess, that was sort of spontaneous but deliberately so since Nolan's whereabouts and activities had to be ambiguous. With the CoP, Thragg's mini-empire, the Viltrumites and Earth's heroes chances are a big last brawl is due soon. All the pieces are very clearly falling in place, we're being shown everyone has kids and peaceful lives to lose, Thragg is gaining ground, Allen is healing up. Alliances are being formed. The signs couldn't be less subtle.
