I took a break from browsing these threads as things were moving slowly, and in that time I've managed to get a good few people from real life and other parts of the internet to do the test. The problem with that interpretation is that a joke has a specific construction, it has a setup then a payoff, simple stuff. The problem being that the alpha session's shipping bullshit had no payoff at all, but it dragged the comic down along side other notable issues with Act 6. It's hard to give any credit to the idea that Hussie was intentionally making fun of the concept when it un-ironically made the comic worse as a result, it's like praising the shooting prowess of someone who shot themselves in the foot.
A similar parallel can be drawn with the whole Vriska mary-sue issue, yes it makes sense given the themes of her Classpect, but it massively tanks the story in doing so which is a net loss no matter how you look at it.

Mages might be the counterpart to witches. Witches are quite far on the active side so mages should be really passive and most of Sollux's deeds are done to help others, he never really did anything for himself(even fighting Eridan could be seen as defending Fef). He SACRIFICED himself to get Fef in, he SACRIFICED himself to get the meteor moving and he fixed the computers in the lab for everybody else. Sacrifices are a part of the Doom aspect, so Sollux controlled the narrative trough sacrifice to save his friends
