Ok. Here's the Main Guide Image.

I changed the background to grey. Should be a lot easier on the eyes.

Also limited the amount of actual information on the page. The other Media-specific Guides are better suited for that kind of information. (IE, the Comics Guide will have Issue counts)

Updated the outdated info, what with Bloodline being released and such. If I have missed anything, let me know. (Leaving the Rogue One prelude stuff off for now, seeing as there is talk of cancellations. Rather wait for confirmation at Celebration.)

Going to update the link in the OP too.

Yeah, I agree. The images are always going to be pretty low quality, to keep it postable on 4chan and at a manageable filesize. But they do their job. The guide is mainly to help people seek stuff out that they are interested in, so as long as you can recognize the cover, it's fine.

I'm trying to update the OP link, although the Imgur link will have to wait because that website is being a shit right now.

And the recommendation guides will have to wait.

I like Han, but I don't think he needs a movie spinoff, AND a comic book starring him (even while he usually plays a leading role in the main SW comic). I figured with Han dying in TFA they were ready to sort of move on from the character but it looks like they're just going to keep milking him.

I'm less sick of Vader, but I think they need to stop milking him, too.
>>

Interestingly, this is actually true of Hasbro. Their top executive Derryl DePriest is a big fan of Han and Obi-Wan (specifically in his ROTS outfit), and he's been pushing both characters constantly long after buyers have indicated that they're tired of seeing them both constantly.

Honestly I think it would have, not because he's better than Williams, but because Giacchino has already worked with Abrams and is already used to him, whereas it feels like there was a bit of disconnect between Abrams and Williams and the soundtrack suffered for it.

Then again, it's hard to say how much of it was because of decisions made by Abrams personally and how much of it was due to constraints from a rushed production.

Does anyone else get the sense that Revan is still Canon since they only took him out of TCW only because they didn't want Sith ghosts to be canon?
>>
>>83645132
No.
>>
>>83645132
Ehhh, no. But I don't have a problem with Revan, his story happened literally 4000 years before the OT.
>>
>>83645132
If Revan had become canonized that way, as an actual person, he would have been canonized under a Dark Side ending, which typically they didn't do. I can't recall any instances of Dark Side endings being the canon one. Of course the Dark Side endings are usually incredibly over-the-top such as conquering the galaxy or deposing the Emperor and thus conquering the galaxy. Maybe it is because they are non-canon that they go to such lengths.
>>
>>83637887
GG, cAnon.

You know, I honestly wouldn't put it past Disney to retcon certain elements of the prequels if they wanted to. It's pretty clear that they aren't big fans.
>>
>>83645441
>If Revan had become canonized that way, as an actual person, he would have been canonized under a Dark Side ending
Why?
>>
>>83646166
Seemed clear that it was JJ who wasn't a fan. They staff were more than happy to submit elements of the movies into background material. JJ wanted them removed so they'd have their own elements instead, but tellingly never produced anything unique of their own to replace, for instance, the banners are Maz's. At least Hondo's flag remained.
>>
>>83646166
It seems they're unwilling to actually retcon elements, just downplay them

Because in the Mortis arc, where that image came from in >>83645132 , Darth Revan and Darth Bane were egging the Son on his Dark Side path. They were removed somewhat late because Lucas didn't want the suggestion Sith could become ghosts.

The problem is just how confusing it would be. You could argue they weren't real ghosts but Force visions like the Son, but then why would we have scenes where one vision was being hoodwinked by two other visions? Like the Matrix trying to trick itself.
>>
>>83645308
That's what never made sense to me about Disney declaring Old Republic stuff non-canon. All of it happens thousands of years in the past, it couldn't possibly affect the new canon. Declaring it non-canon seems like them going out of their way to spite fans.
>>
>>83642644
For Star Wars books it did. Read A New Dawn compared to Tarkin. It was just weird.
>>
>>83646166
>they aren't big fans
Disney doesn't give two shits about Star Wars as anything other than a franchise that makes mundo bucks. If the Prequels were more generally popular in the pop culture, they'd push that shit. I doubt they'll retcon anything, but they'll probably play off the hate for them and nostalgia for the OT, like they did with TFA. They'll just ignore the prequels as a setting and do their sequel, OT related stuff.

It helps we just got over a decade of prequel focus with Star Wars, even if a bunch of it was swept away. The market got kind of saturated and was ready for a change.

That, surprisingly, bothered me too. I would have thought those two would have had a scene to mourn Han.
>>
>>83646328
Oh right, forgot about that. I thought we were talking about it in general.

I think the problem was the old EU liked to use Revan as a sith guy handing out sith advice. This was through holocrons, though, but it's functionally not very different from ghosts the way they've been played.

Also, people just like to put him in the nothing personnel outfit of his, which tends to encourage using his sith persona.

>If the Prequels were more generally popular in the pop culture
But that's the thing. Overseas, the prequels are phenomenally well known. Even in the states it's split down the middle. Why are they pushing the OT when overall the PT is more popular and fresh?

>>
>>83646399
Sounds like a shabby blue picture. In fact, I think he did one for when he was in carbonite.
>>
>>83646481
I think it's mostly been because TFA and the sequels build more on the OT than they do the PT, so they're trying to bring the OT back as a refresher. It makes sense, but it does have the unfortunate side effect of making it look like they're trying to forget the prequels.
>>
>>83646335
They made everything Lucas didn't directly touch to be non-canon. Everything. It's not like they singled KoTOR out.
>>
>>83646463
Chewie got his medal...in the background material. Not pictured in the Leia comic, though. Personally I like to think he made an offhand comment to Threepio about being snubbed, got a "Serves you right," comment, then Chewie pulled Threepio's arm out of it's socket and melted it down for his medal.

And this is the story of how Threepio had a green arm for awhile.
>>
>>83646757

You color blind anon? Just asking.
>>
>>83646845
But when will we get the completely necessary backstory of the time Threepio had a blue arm?
>>
>>83646481
I don't think they are. The Prequel Era gets a lot of shoutouts in the comics, novels, Rebels, etc. It was just TFA that sought to limit at least stuff like podracing references and that was at JJ's direction. They still kept in the big stuff, like balancing the Force, even the clone army got a shoutout.

Obviously JJ is just a podracer hater.
>>
>>83646335
But it does affect everything else. It affects what the force is, the nature of the dark and light side, the locations of planets, the history of alien species and technology, etc.
>>
>>83646335
Disney didn't declare the EU(and Old Republic era) noncanon, Lucasfilm did.

And it's because they want a clean slate. The EU became a clusterfuck. They started with a clean slate of just the stuff Lucas was directly involved in, the films and TCW.

You can say "oh its so far in the past it cant possibly affect anything" but in reality, KotOR depicted the OR era in a way that really doesnt make sense, and especially with the small tidbits we know about the OR era
>>
>>83646905
Why would they bother to keep it? If they're wiping the slate clean there's no point in keeping one thing out of the thousands of things being de-canonized. The entire point of dropping the EU wholesale was that it was too much time and effort to pick and choose which parts get dropped and which don't- it was easier to just drop everything, start a new canon, and then anything that was useable from the old EU could then be re-introduced.

Plus it leads to a lot of "b-but if you kept that canon why not X and Y?"
>>
>>83646932
That one wasn't his arm. It was his crotchplating.

Anonymous droid oilhouse antics and they accidentally swapped a few parts. Most embarrassing. Threepio also got a few viruses in his OS. True story.
>>
>>83646905
I think it's more that, when wiping it all away, it's better to have a simple rule than having exceptions. If they want to start over, better to just go "we want to make a new universe entirely based off of what Lucas did, and not have to tangle with all this other stuff."

The Old Republic has always been my favorite bit of Star Wars. But I think I'm okay with it for the exact same reasons you think it should be left intact. It was so far in the past, it was basically always noncanon. It never really mattered to the "main" eras at all.

I'm also perfectly fine with seeing if they do anything fun with that era again. I would like to see them follow original archaic aesthetic of the Tales of the Jedi series and what we saw of Bane. The original EU Old Republic had a good run and I'm satisfied with what I got from it. Even a shitty new Old Republic setting can't take that from me.

This wookiee being in different comics is what made me finally go 'woah, this nucanon thing actually works now'. It's weird because he's the type of character like C'boath now where he appears in all over the place instead of only being in one single comic or novel. I find the difference between Rex and Cody to be a really interesting dynamic.

They may both be programmed to follow orders, but their ability to think in the abstract allows them to diverge in certain ways.

Cody obeys orders out of a sense of duty. The orders must be done, that's why he fires on Obi-Wan unquestioningly. Well, that and the chip.

But Rex is particularly interesting. He follows orders out of a sense of respect, that's what allowed him to confront General Krell, who had lost his respect.

Nah, I doubt it. They would have done it already. They also released the 2011 versions of all 6 movies, last year for their digital release.

That to me tells me that they don't care about further retconning those movies. Hell, it might even be part of Lucas's contract that they cant.

Sure, certain writers or directors (cough, JJ, cough) will go out of their way to avoid the prequels if they really want. But Disney doesn't care enough to make official retcons, and Lucasfilm definitely don't want that. A lot of the people at Lucasfilm have been there since Revenge of the Sith, or before, so they definitely don't want their work retconned.

But for the absolute most part, the writers and directors so far have not avoided the Prequels. They've been very respectful with the franchise, utilizing stuff they liked from across all 6 movies, and TCW. For example, Filoni on Rebels, or the Vader comic having explicit flashbacks to prequel scenes. Literally only JJ has actively fought against prequel references that we know of so far. And even then, there was a couple in TFA, such as the Clone army reference, that HAD to be in the movie, so that the normies could understand the changes to the current lore.
>>
>>83646335
The thing about the Old Republic Era is that it spans out of the KotOR games, which were released under the understanding that Lucas never considered them Canon. KotOR 2 in particular, anyways. When Lucas DID show us glimpses of that era, the aesthetic was completely different, suggesting that a lot of technological advancements, and fashion, and cultures, had developed between then, and now. (See Darth Bane, in TCW)

In the Legends Old Republic, the games in particular, everything was stagnated. There was practically nothing that set it apart from the Prequel Era, aside from some of the lore.

So that Era was one of the few things in the Expanded Universe that Lucas adamantly disagreed with, even before he left the franchise. He was usually fine with the EU, and allowed Filoni to incorporate a lot of it into TCW. But any Old Republic references were VERY vague. We got some Mandalorian stuff, because of all the Mandalore episodes. And we got a completely redesigned Bane on Moraband.

But that's mostly it. There was plans for Revan, but he was axed because Lucas says Sith can't have ghosts. The Bane cameo was explicitly a specter, an imprint, and not actually Bane's consciousness.

Now, saying this, it's very clear from Rebels that everyone at Lucasfilm loves the KotOR era and games. So while it may be non-canon now, I fully expect it all to come back, piece by piece, just reskinned to fit more in line with Lucas's vision. And with more Crossguard sabers to fit in with current lore.

Revan with a crossguard saber, yes/no? Too similar to Kylo? They could explain that Kylo was mimicking Revan, alongside Vader.
>>
>>83655999
So was the crossguard lightaber an ancient version of the modern lightsaber? We know that at one point there was lightsaber Katanas like Ahsokas sabers and the Darksaber. So did it go, Katana, cross, modern? Or were the Katana and Cross ones around at the same time in a sort of European vs Asian clash and mixture of cultures
>>
>>83657053
I don't think we have a definitive answer yet, but I think;

>the Katana and Cross ones around at the same time in a sort of European vs Asian clash and mixture of cultures

That is probably closest to the truth. Maybe the Jedi were split back then. Maybe the Knights weren't even Jedi?

>>83657053
well according to defunct lore, the ancient sith and jedi were god damn wizards when it came to swordplay. so on the notion that saber technique has regressed to sub-juvenile in comparison, I could see how the more specialized designs of yore no longer presented as much of an advantage as they used to because there were no more specialists whose techniques requires such a hard counter that the crossguard presented

Glad to see you picked up the implications. It's that whole 'first exposure' thing; with some exceptions, the one that is most fondly remembered is the one you were exposed to first. Hell, for all we know, this same argument will happen at some point in the future with the ST.

And, generally speaking, to let yourself get riled up over someone with a different opinion is...well, that's pretty sad and pathetic.
>>
>>83660373
That's my entire point. Nostalgia plays a factor for both eras of the franchise. All the films are similar in regard to style, direction and themes which makes them arguably equal. There are no real discernible differences between both trilogies especially when viewed in order.

After viewing the trilogies in order twice, I can say confidently (in my opinion) that it's nitpicking when it comes to quality of films. They're all part of the same great experience.

I wouldn't say they're uglier, but the Prequels and especially TPM is definitely the worst with the dialog. It also sort of generally infects all of Anakins lines in the next two moves too.

That said, the OT is not without it's own share of awkward lines and bizarrely stilted romantic interaction. I can't recall any specific lines, but rewatching ESB the scene with Han and Leia in the halls on the Hoth base was just weirdly off. Not as bad, not nearly as bad, as the romance scenes in the Prequels, but still not great. ANH is also just generally not so great in the writing department, even putting Luke aside.

Hey, you're welcome to disagree. Been a few months since that pre-TFA despecialized rewatch.

If you have examples of super awesome lines from ANH you think I've unfairly slandered, go ahead. I'm sure they exist. I said generally for a reason. Han was probably pretty okay, but on the whole my recollection is that ANH was probably the least polished of the OT scripts and acting-wise.
>>
>>83646955
Most of the people working on the comics, novels, and Rebels have been working on Star Wars long enough to appreciate the OT and the PT. Newer things such as Battlefront and TFA were made by people with a hard-on for the OT.
>>
>>83661400

>I wouldn't say they're uglier

Look, I have no problem with CGI. It's a tool like any other and it can be used well in context like anything else. I'm not inherently against CGI being used in a Star Wars movie, no-one's going to spend 100% million dollars to make a movie with Styrofoam and plastic models.

But the CGI in the PT is fucking atrocious. The green-screens look worse then films from the fucking 40's at points. The models, the Clones in particular, are embarrassing. It's all fucking terrible.

And this is a minor thing, but the lighting in the PT drives me nuts. Everything is incredibly brightly-lit at all points for no reason, even the dark scenes.

>That said, the OT is not without it's own share of awkward lines and bizarrely stilted romantic interaction.

I'll never pretend the OT is perfect certainly, but for me the stilted line readings were more forgivable because it was a bunch of people incredibly early in their careers both in front of and behind the camera, the stiffness could be hand-waved away to a degree.

Lucas didn't really have that excuse decades later.

The dialogue with Han and Leia on Hoth was stellar though, some of my favorite in the franchise.

Han on Endor in Episode 6 however is worse than anything in the prequels, and I still to this day don't understand how people can excuse it, while treating the dialogue in the Prequels like it was worse than Hitler. NONE of his dialogue is written well, and Harrison was so clearly phoning it in.

It's not like the actor is recognizable.

>The prequels are so much uglier and have such worse dialogue and characters in them
I severely disagree. The OT is filled with the same awkward dialogue. I think it's fun to point out even the actors had trouble with the dialogue because it was so bizarre. Ford and Hamill were baffled by Lucas. But people dont understand it was weird on purpose. That was the point. It's a homage to sci-fi pulp. Fallout does the same thing. However, it was never the dialogue or actors that made the films fun it was their visual style. Every Star Wars film is different and tells the story through it's visuals. One argument I don't understand is calling Lucas obsessed with CGI when in reality he wanted to show us worlds we've never seen before. Worlds like Naboo or Kamino. Problem was the OT was limited by technology. The ralph mcquarrie paintings reflect this.

>The issue is you can't discuss it without people bringing up the Plinkett stuff.
Ignore those people bring them up.

You should explain yourself more instead of saying "No". You're not making sense.

>about Jew Jew "more niggers" Abrams
Nevermind.

>The dialogue with Han and Leia on Hoth was stellar though, some of my favorite in the franchise.
It was very specifically them walking and talking in the hallway. I think they were shooting banter back and forth and it just didn't click with me. I don't think anything else in the OT felt like that to me.

Fair enough. My mother always said it was called "Drama" for a reason. I'm not really familiar myself with theater snobbery in this instance. And it's not like I thought the OT is badly acted or written. Some parts of the script or the acting in certain scenes just definitely did not feel up to snuff, even if only compared to the rest of it. I felt like bringing it up because it makes it more obvious it's been a more or less endemic problem throughout the series, despite the highlights in all of the OT. It was just nowhere near as bad as the Prequels.

Does anyone have that Lucas quote about how much he enjoys what people have done to expand then SW universe in all of the novels and comics?

Exactly. Not even including the fsct thst most of the prequel scenes had sets, why is CGI bad in a science fantasy space opera?

>why is CGI bad

It's not, bad CGI is.

And the prequels had terrible CGI. All the practical world in the world don't matter when you have green-screen sets right out of an SNL sketch and CGI characters that look PS3-quality.

This, you only notice bad CGI if it's bad.
