There are people with a wealth of conceptual potential under their feet who are being paid to write more and somehow shit out less. There is no end in sight of this process, /co/. Certainly not with any amount of "not taking it so seriously".
In fact, let's do a thought experiment.
Imagine if after all the build the MCU has done they turned everything into a rom com of this caliber, where all the characterization, characters arcs, all that just flushed down the drain. Every movie after is the equivalent of 2 hours of Big Bang Theory writing. Jobs would be lost. People would never find work.
Now the superhero/comic genre in film circles is by no means respected material, but the MCU at the very least is still being developed respectably by the people involved. The result is a product many people enjoy.
Similarly, superhero comics aren't considered respectable high literature, but the reason isn't because of the concept. Oh, no. It's because they're actively being shit on by their own writers.
The result is fucking garbage people perpetually purchase just in the hopes keeping it afloat will allow it to be recycled into gold, like some sort of trash sifting Philosopher's stone process.
The fact the comic book community has been conditioned to accept this is unacceptable.

The worst part of the "y-chromosome" line and the joke about having "balls" isn't just that it's baldly incorrect, but unnecessary. The way the top half of opening page is set up, it seems as if she was going to complain that she doesn't have superpowers like her heroes do, not that she is the wrong gender.
If the author would have just been consistent and said "You don't need superpowers to be a superhero; all you need is your brain" then that would have still been inspiring and heartwarming, instead of the mess that is these pages.

That's a dumb point though, for two reasons.
One, there's no precident for modern heroes, because NOBODY FUCKING TRIED, and two, 50 years ago, 90% of the characters created, were created SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE they didn't think they would be successful.
