I enjoy the AUs, but this is actually a good question. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that has as many prominent AUs as Gravity Falls. And I mean in the sense of these shared things it has going on. Arguably all fan art and fanfiction is AU if it's not a scene from the show, book, etc. but I wonder why the fuck Gravity Falls became such a magnet for AUs, there's nothing about the show itself that makes me think, "Hey, let's make a fuckton of AUs for this."
I haven't really seen this AU mentioned although it's for damn near every cartoon not just GF now and doesn't make any fucking sense. Bad End Friends.
Ice Finn, Bipper, Mewberty Star, and to a lesser extent Evil Morty make sense to me.
Wirt's bad end wouldn't be like that, he'd just be a sad old guy, no damn horns or rainbow. I do understand why they changed it since this is just a vehicle for fan art, mostly shota fan art.
Coraline is also a stretch, and Steven raised by Yellow Diamond is pure fan created (odd they didn't go with degraded Amethyst instead), but I don't know what the fuck is going on with Bad End Marco. He bugs me for some reason.

No, I mean make everything more scifi-ish without really following the Time Police?Baby thing. Gravity Falls is on an undetermined planet with low administrated regulation. However, some sort of Precursor race or society used to be here, so Ford goes there to study it and see if he can find anything interesting, finds a Bill monument/structure, sees the summoning incantation and basically a similar thing that went down in canon happens, except maybe switch it up with Bill setting Ford up as his scapegoat and Ford getting caught by the interdimensional/intergalactic police (no relation to the ones in the show). Ford has some sort of teleportation device rigged into the Journal (that are definitely going to look more futurey) that makes them go to undetermined locations for a falesafe and also so Bill has a harder time in getting them.

The Journals get teleported to their locations. Stan gets his on some random no-name planet and his first thought is to sell the teleporting book. He sees the six fingered hand on the cover however and is immediately hit with some sort of nostalgia. Long story short, he reads the Journal and tries to track down his brother. The book mentions Gravity Falls, so off he goes. Once he gets to Ford's place however, he immediately gets chills because of how man cops are surrounding the area and inspecting it for clues. He immediately backs away and goes into town, trying to get some information. Eventually, the police break down and destroy the portal, seal off the area, record Ford as a one-time thing and leave Gravity Falls. Stan goes out of hiding and breaks into Ford's place to figure out what the hell he's supposed to do. Pieces are starting to fall together now, and Stan realizes the only way to get his brother back is to continue his research. Similar events happen along canon with Stan setting up Ford's home into a tourist trap to really hide what's going on in case the police ever come back. Time Skip.

Dipper and Mabel live on an administrated planet (not Earth), and live is quite lackluster. As an administrated planet, things are heavily regulated, and their lives are constantly monitored and planned out for them. They also have no idea of who their parents are, as they were separated at birth and put into a different class system. This makes them deeply close, doubly so because they are twins and don't ever want to be separated, and are willing to get into trouble if it means making sure the other is alright. This has consequences, as Dipper (noted to be quite intelligent by teaching staff) has purposely held himself back for Mabel. They also developed a habit of sneaking around into closed off areas, though its mainly Dipper leading Mabel into these. Dipper is in love with the mysteries and the magic of the universe and wants to explore everything, making conspiracies about anything that doesn't have immediate answers to the questions it brings up. Due to begin brought up in a world where you're told to do as you say, he developed an urge to be rebellious, to grow up so that he could do as he pleased. No one was going to shush him when he asked questions he wasn't supposed to, find adults and teenagers that didn't roll their dull, lifeless eyes at his eagerness and insolence, and he would find people who actually enjoyed listening to his ramblings. No offense to his sister, but he knew she didn't understand what half the stuff he meant was. Mabel on the other hand prefers life and people. With their personal life being constantly regulated so that they're doing something for society instead of themselves, she craves other people to laugh with and be herself with. Dipper doesn't count, because he's her brother and she's been with him forever. She'll always be with him forever. She wants the razzle-dazzle of life and love and all the beautiful things that go with it. She wants to wear her hair in funny styles and dress in bright, random colors.

The idea is subject to change, but I'm thinking that Mabel and Dipper's regulated planet gets used as a station for a war that's been going on. All young civilians are escorted off of the planet and sent to other administrated planets where they would continue their life as usual. Though a series of undetermined events Dipper and Mabel find out that they have a relative, Stanford Pines, on an UNadministrated planet. They immediately jump to attention at this, pack all of their things (they didn't have much), and play everything cool. They would get onto the ship that was closest to their true destination, and use an emergency pod to get to their great uncle Stanford. They don't even care if he doesn't want them, as long as they get to live on an unadministrated world, they were fine. Things go smoothly, in fact, everyone now thinks they're dead, and don't care to look for two out of hundreds. They get to Gravity Falls, and meet their great uncle. There's some obvious distrust on both sides at first. Sta thinks the kids were sent by the government to trick him, and Dipper and Mabel, who had read Ford's file front to back multiple times (okay only Dipper did that), had a hard time reconciling the ma in front of them with the one in the photos. Regardless, on the offset that they ARE his grand niece and nephew, Stan can't let them just run around on their own so he sets up a place for them at the Shack. The Shack will also undergo a future-ish/scifi design, while still being a rickety piece of crap. They are then introduced to Soos, who helps diffuse the remaining tension, and also helps both sides see that they aren't that bad. Stan shoos Mabel and Dipper upstairs into their room while he sets up for the latest batch of idiots. Dipper and Mabel unpack and discussing things. This is the first day. Dipper does not find the Journal until later in the week, maybe two or three days from then.

Second day is everyone still warming up to each other. Stan tries to figure out everything about the kids while he keeps reminiscing about his life with his family before things went to shit. The kids come down to watch him with the tourists this time. Dipper keeps asking people questions and pointing out the tourist traps wile Mabel takes a shining to all the new people and keeps tying to befriend them. Stan then realizes that having kids doubles his payload, and puts the kids to work. This is were Wendy comes in.The twins are all over Wendy, her being the first teenager they see that isn't stiff, uptight, or derisive towards them. Wendy generally acts how she is in canon. Kind of burnt but now, but Dipper finding the Journal won't be as easy as it was in canon. It would have to have remained hidden to escape Bill, the police/secret government, and Stan practically bulldozing everything in the area to find it. Gideon getting his Journal was simple and one of those, "You won't think to look here if you don't know anything about Gravity Falls or its inhabitants."
The Supernatural also still exists like in canon, but will be more supernatural than mystical. Instead of gnomes kidnapping Mabel, its going to be something bit more ravenous capturing both Mabel and Dipper. A bit more competency for everyone as well. I don't want characters tripping up, or falling into the old tropes of falling for traps anyone could see from miles away, making their defeat and the protagonists victory look cheap and contrived. Except for Soos, but he'll be actually slow instead of cartoon slow. More distrust and paranoia, and heaping amounts of Bill being a manipulative prick and playing everyone for fools. I'll try and keep the comedy, but I definitely won't be able to capture the whimsical and silly humor of the show.

I've been working on how Reverse Falls might work. It actually starts with Stan and Ford and the two of them never splitting up. Ford uses his grant money to keep Stan on as a research assistant and the two go to Gravity Falls. Ford's research and inventions make him rich and powerful, even more so after bringing on McGucket. Stan grows jealous of living in his brother's shadow and begins to plot against him. He sabotages the portal experiment, fakes his death and mind wipes McGucket with the mind wiper that McGucket had been planning to use on Ford. He rides the coat tails of Ford's work and the inventions he stole from McGucket until he runs out of money and then realizes he needs a new brain to complete all of Ford's and McGucket's unfinished work when he remembers Dipper who is something or a prodigy.
At the same time Dipper and Mabel have legally emancipated themselves from their parents who were trying to keep the twins apart for their inappropriate behavior. They receive word from their great uncle who offers them a place to stay in Gravity Falls. Expecting a mansion filled with wonders they find that Stan has let the estate fall into disrepair and that he is nearly broke, blaming the state of everything on an injury he suffered from the explosion. The twins soon discover one of Ford's journals and use the information within to collect several magical artifacts which they use to put on magic shows to make money. They earn themselves great renown as entertainers and become beloved fixtures in Gravity Falls all the while using the journal they have found to make themselves more powerful.
Things continue this way until the arrival of Gideon Gleeful and his father Bud who are vacationing in Gravity Falls and staying as boarders at the Mystery Shack, which is run by McGucket who can't explain why he hates the Pines family so much. Staying in the woods nearby are the Northwests and their herds of llamas.

Anyway, early in their career Dipper and Mabel discovered the existence of Will, an entity of Order that had been working against Ford whose experiments were often chaotic in nature. Thinking the children could be reasoned with Will was ensnared by the twins who harness his powers to make their magic shows even more fantastic while also milking him for information about the cosmos. He sometimes appears as a tall blonde man with an eyepatch dressed as their butler.
The Pines employ Soos as their driver and muscle, primarily Dipper's, while Wendy is kept as their groundskeeper for the estate and because she is eye candy for Dipper.
Robby works in the Mystery Shack, sharing in McGucket's hatred of the Pines as they left him with a heart shaped scar after he tried one too many times to convince Wendy to leave their employ.
Gideon and Pacifica become friends after Gideon discovers the third journal that McGucket had managed to take with him after Stan kicked him out. They quickly wind up on the Pines' radar because Gideon poses a threat to Dipper's reputation as the smartest guy in the room while Mabel hates Pacifica for the way she catches her brother's eye.

The thing that I have with Cypher is that its pretty much canon that he can't manifest outside of dreams until the rosto of reality is broken.
I would also mention that Ford could have neutralized most of his power on their first encounters. Instead of Bill befriending Ford and tricking him, its the opposite, Ford trick Bill posing as a good guy and depower Bill to a shadow of his former self.
