>Because there's already a flood and it's going to get much worse.
So you decided to add to the flood by making another thread? Fuck off.
>>82756569
Are you kidding me. News just got out he had cancer
>>82756569
That was unexpected
>>82756852
No, the news was that he'd been fighting cancer and lost. I don't believe I ever saw any news that he had cancer to begin with
>>82756832
Serious question: Are you literally autistic? Because they asked for a sticky, nothing more. They were literally asking the mods to make one of the threads "official" to keep it under control.
No more illustrated Parker novels or comics adapations.
RIP
>>82756852
>>82756890
They kept it out of the public until it was over. Just announced that he had it yesterday. Death announcement was today.
>>82756890
His wife posted that he was going into Palliative care yesterday afternoon, twelve hours before he died.
>>82756890
The thread is still up >>82725154
Sticky this
Really a bummer. This is one of those selfish deaths because he's the type where I wish he lived and kept drawing forever. His style never got old and I would read a thousand New Frontiers or a Spirit ongoing for as long as it existed.
F
holy shit, WHAT!?
Darwyn Cooke was one of those artists like Mike Allred or Frank Miller or Howard Chaykin or John Romita Jr. or Alex Ross where you see his work and you instantly recognize it's by him. Literally one of a kind.
>>82756992
I agree, this should be stickied. We have several threads going on at once.
>>82756593
Funny thing is I partake in many a movie thread. Look at this though. Someone made a worth a shit thread arguably more implicitly related to /co/ and here I am instead. Maybe there is a lesson there?
>>82756690
This list is missing his final work, the miniseries Twilight Children from Vertigo. Written by Gilbert Hernandez of Love and Rockets fame and fully drawn by Darwyn Cooke.
>>82757075
People who mainly post in movie threads can only shitpost in actual /co/ related threads?
This is a better one to stick because it's the only one with an actual picture of Darwyn in the OP.
Darwyn Cooke has been both a pleasure to read and an inspiration to behold since I first received a copy of The Spirit as a Christmas gift nearly a decade ago. In an age clouded with cynicism, his art style encapuslated the wonder of a bygone era and reveled in the simpler world it hearkened back to. His vibrantly colored heroes seemed to almost always wear a smile, a symbol of hope for a brighter tomorrow in trying times. Today, I pray that those smiles and that hope are present with each of his loved ones as they mourn the passing of this tremendous talent. It has been a long, incredible journey and I thank you for having stayed the course with us fans all these years. Godspeed, Darwyn. You will be missed.
>>82757133
That's not what I was thinking, but now that you mention it, "people who mainly bitch about movie threads will do so in threads as /co/ related as movie threads" is a valid alternative. Or is the death of an artist a comic or cartoon? It's the same standards you shitheels use to justify your crying about movie threads.
Cooke was a nominee for GOAT. You're doing his memory a disservice by continuing to force your bullshit agenda. Knock it the fuck off already. There is a time and place, and this is neither.
RIP
>>82757713
>It's the same standards you shitheels use to justify your crying about movie threads.
Yes it's so unreasonable to complain about the hundenth "look at Disney's upcoming films" thread, or a moviefag company war thread, or a "Scarlett Witch is my waifu" thread, or 500 post threads about a rumor about a movie someone posted on twitter.
I have the right to get angry, you fa/tv/irgin.
>>82758046
Been a /co/mrade before anything else the 8 years I've been here, m80. Stay butthurt over people liking things you don't though.
>>82757123
And to think that I storytimed this only a couple months ago. Fuck cancer!
>>82760545
Herb Trimpe didn't get one either
>>82760747
Herbe is dead! The groo guy?
>>82756569
We only do stickys for dc circlejerk threads now anon
>>82760747
Yes he did. VERY BRIEFLY, but he did.
>>82763801
70s Hulk artist (probably drew more Hulk comics than any other artist), THE fill-in guy at Marvel in the 70s and 80s, also known for Godzilla and G.I. Joe at Marvel. Super talented guy.
This was like... a year or two ago. Weird that anyone's even bringing it up now.
>>82757123
Shame it was his last work, it was subpar.
>>82756569
He died? yesterday they said he was being put on support. Shit man, just made me realize how short life can be. F
>Look for a torrent of Cooke's The Spirit run
>Hundreds of porn and religious shit
What
RIP Cooke.
He was too good for this world.
;_;7
>>82756569
It's not a trailer for a shitty movie so the mods, not reading comics or having watched any cartoon older than Adventure Time, don't know who he is so why should be get a sticky?
His work was gorgeous, I'm so glad people are storytiming it today in tribute.
finally a sticky
and only 6 hours late
>>82756569
Rest in Peace
Guys... I think it time to press F
>>82765805
He's been dead for more than six hours and the palliative care announcement was basically 'darwyn cooke is going to die shortly'
Fucking finally they sticky a thread
RIP in peace
>>82756690
>Green Lantern: Secret Files 2005
And the story he did art on was the gayest thing Johns has written
>>82765860
I meant of the creation of this thread where OP clearly was asking for a sticky.
>>82756593
>>82756453
you fucking faggot
>read the thread at work yesterday announcing he has cancer
>wake up and he's already dead
Life isn't fair
Finally stickied
Thank you cunts
Anybody ever meet the man at a convention?
>>82765937
Thank god
We finally have a sticky
>>82756569
Fuck man. Cancer is so goddamn unfair
Him and Mignola are my two favorite comic creators of all time. Goddamnit
I posted this in the initial thread yesterday but does he have a website you can buy prints or drawings of shit? I bought a bunch of stuff from Steve Rude when he was going through some shit a few years back and I'd love to get some of Cookes art.
He strikes again.
We won't have Darwyn Cooke to kick around anymore.
ABOUT FUCKING TIME MODS
holy shit, mods actually did something
>>82766234
He only sells original art, not prints. Go to his blogspot, there's a link to a guys site who sells them for him
>missed the news last night about him being move to palliative care for aggressive cancer
>wake up this morning to see that he's dead
>think /co/'s pulling my leg again
>check twitter
>it's real
It's not fair.
>>82756569
man fuck 2016
>>82766321
2016 is fucking 2015 season 2.
Always fucking Cancer....
>>82764978
>it was subpar
For Beto, maybe, but Cooke's art was on point as always.
>goes to hospital for extensive care
>dies within 24 hours of checking in
Thanks Obama
Anybody mind a storytime?
>>82766540
you need to look up what palliative care is
>>82766540
He was in palliative care, the doctors knew he was going to die soon, they were just making him comfortable so everyone could say their goodbyes.
>>82756569
not movies
not interested
>>82756569
>>82766588
I'd say do it in a separate thread
>>82766588
I don't mind
His The Spirit comics were well drawn, even if they weren't well written.
>>82766588
probably best in a different thread like all the other storytimes.
>>82766630
I mean, we can all just mourn him or celebrate his work.
>>82756569
Finally we get a sticky
>>82756569
Meh I've seen better
Another soul to Stan Lee
>>82756569
>7 hours later
>less than 90 posts
No one seems to care, unfortunately.
>>82766630
We've had storytimes in stickies before.
>>82766952
why are you even here.
>>82767008
there were half a dozen threads yesterday and this morning and now there are a bunch of storytimes
the mods are just behind the times
>>82765937
>>82766152
Christ.
SO GAY.
>>82766952
Why couldn't YOU die of cancer?
>>82767008
This hasn't been the only thread and there's also a ton of storytimes that people are posting in. If the mods didn't fuck up it would have been properly centralized discussion.
>>82767008
Look at the catalog. There were like 10 fucking threads today. The posting was spread out across a bunch of different threads. Otherwise there would have been a lot more in the individual ones. With a sticky now there will be.
Whatever, I'm dumping it.
>>82767074
Appreciated.
Well, I was dragging my feet, but I guess today's the day to marathon through the X-Statix Omni.
Speaking of, >>82759660
>>82767158
No problem, it's one of my favorites from Cooke.
>>82757123
I wonder if Revengeance will ever be released, or if treatment took away from his working on it.
Was anyone else here planning to finally meet him at Boson Comic-Con this summer? ...God fucking dammit this sucks on so many levels.
>finished downloading DC: The New Frontier today
>find out Darwyn passed away a mere few minutes after the fact
....that really was sudden, god dammit.
>>82756569
God damn that sucks. Cooke did some amazing shit but it always seemed like he was below everyone's radar. Maybe now he'll get the recognition he deserves.
>>82767328
I think an unfinished version released for charity would be nice.
>>82767352
Now go read his Spirit run. It's fucking great.
>>82767250
Materials used to oil paint often cause long term bodily damage. A lot of oil painters end up having strokes and other ailments. Like cancer.
>>82767438
I suppose the question is, would you rather have his health, or his amazing art? It's a tough matter.
And at the end of the day it just comes to show he really loved his craft.
>>82767422
It was storytimed earlier here on /co/. I fucking loved it. I'll go read The New Frontier now, I was unable to do it earlier.
>>82767583
Fuck his style was so damn perfect. Clean and sexy as hell.
>>82758294
well I've been a /co/mrade for 9 years, slick. So suck off.
WHY IS SLOTT ALLOWED TO SURVIVE
One of my favorite Cooke anecdotes by Gail Simone
http://gailsimone.tumblr.com/post/740193970/okay-i-have-to-tell-my-story-of-complete-agony
Sorry Darwyn. You had to go. Stan needed fresh marrow from talented bones to suckle and thus prolong his unnatural life.

>>82763801
>The groo guy?
That's Sergio Aragones.
>>82767358
>Maybe now he'll get the recognition he deserves.
I would love to think so, but I'm pessimistic. I doubt it. The sad thing about American comics is that a lot of names end up getting buried and forgotten over time. Obviously a lot of superficial memorials will be done for Cooke, but after a while, who knows? Most major Big 2 books wouldn't even use an artist that draws similar to his style .
I think of big names from back in the day that where highly renowned by other artists, yet seem forgotten today. Modern comic artists are more likely to take inspiration from manga, digital artists, and the more popular superhero artists like Jim Lee. Its sad, I feel like a lot of comic history is in danger of being lost to an aging niche.
I'll be honest, I wasn't familiar with him, but looking back I realize I knew his work. Damn shame; RIP
Comic Artists deserve more respect than they get
Cancer sucks
>> Barrero was best known for his roles as the voice of Seiya in Saint Seiya, Rick Hunter and Scott Bernard in Robotech, Koji Kabuto in Mazinger Z, Yamcha in Dragon Ball, Jonny Quest in the Jonny Quest animated series, Kuzco in The Emperor's New Groove, Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, Koji Minamoto in Digimon Frontier, Rex in the Toy Story series, Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga, Zanmase Truesdale in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Deidara in Naruto and Yoichi Hiruma in Eyeshield 21.
Barrero was diagnosed with lung cancer in March 2015 and died from complications of the disease on February 17, 2016 at the age of 57.[2] His last film role was in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the voice of Luke Skywalker.

>most popular comics artists in history
I don't so bud
>>82767583
This is the page that sold me on Solo, and really what got me into comics in general. I saw it on Comics 101, and just the idea of an anything goes anthology where the artist does what they want seemed so appealing.
>>82767908
On /co/ he is and that's all that really counts on this board.

Ah yes, pre-ISIS Iraq War talk.

What did this talentless fuck ever do that was even remotely significant?
I for once don't care he died, I'm glad to be honest, one less piece of shit on this already overpopulated globe.
Hope his family gets cancer and dies as well, get all the filth out at once.
Fuck them all.
Got Catwoman vol. 1 in memory of the legendary Darwyn Cooke
