What are you talking about? The female heroes in MHA are all pretty lame and just there for sex appeal for the most part.
Only Froggy is worth anything. She's only sexual in fan-art, her actual character is great.

Mattel used up all their good writers on the Barbie Dreamhouse shorts

You really should watch them, they're great

There are good superheroines in DC. Cissie, Secret, Empress, Wonder Girl (basically all the Young Justice characters) are great. Too bad the Nu52 wiped them all out.

Creation girl, sound girl, frog girl, gravity girl, big hands girl are all fine IMO. Just as developed as other characters, not shown to be overwhelmingly good or unflawed, not purely characterized in sexual terms.

If anything the adult female heroes are the ones who are bad.

It's a spinoff meant as DC's Barbie line. They're not putting their top talent in it, and it's not a passion project. No amount of applying the abstract concept of effort will make it as good as one of the best shonen series coming out now.

At least these days American creators (of any sort) are too neurotic to make good female characters, or are just outright SJWs about it. They can also be restricted too much by realism and common sense. And they aren't as interested in making female characters as the Japanese.

This, westerners don't make flawed female characters or with quirks that could be considered offensive anymore out of fear of being called names. You can't have compelling characters when they're all perfect or 1 dimensional.

On the other hand people complain that characters in SoL anime are bad because they're too one dimensional and don't have tragic character flaws and epic storylines and moral dilemmas. Characters can't just be appealing on a basic level, because everything needs to be complicated.

>>82598827

Not every anime girl is just there for wish fulfillment and otaku fetishes. Certainly not that one you replied to, if anything she would be a clear example of what westerners call a feminist character. Is she sometimes sexualized? Sure, just like men in fujoshi shows, Japan isn't as prude to believe the human body should never be "objectified", the only difference here is that those characters have way more going for it than their bodies.

Fans and creators are not different people in Japan. You have this idea that creators don't like any of the same things that fans do, and so they must be just "baiting" when they make female characters. This is wrong.

>>82599093
Otaku aren't just about "wish fulfillment" and "fetishes," they get more invested in characters than anyone else.

There are no feminist characters in anime.
>>
>>82599093

>There are no feminist characters in anime.

Maybe not in Japaneses' eyes, but a good chunk of shows have feminist characters by western standards, hell most if not all non-harem shows pass that stupid Bechdel test with extra credit.

>>82599324
That show has no flashing panties, the most it has is just cute legs, and that's mostly in the promo art not the show itself. And even if they had panty shots with underage girls, Ghibli films are guilty of that and everyone considers them some of the most female positive animated movies of all time. A mere panty shot doesn't invalidate the fact that they're well written characters.
>>
>>82599324
Where did Hibike have pantyshots? And would you take pantyshots more seriously if the character is 18 years old? Pantyshots aren't even mutually exclusive with seriousness.

"Female positive" implies that characters ought to positively represent the female sex, which is just another way of saying the Galbrush paradox. It also implies that anime charactes represent real women in the first place, which is usually not true.

That paradox doesn't apply in this discussion. For starters anime has overall more female main characters than males, and if you want to go deeper, the workforce behind the industry is pretty evenly split between both sexes (pic related is KyoAni), hell some of the most renowned screenwriters and directors nowadays are women. No one would avoid including characters or remove personality traits from their female ones out of fear of the third wave feminists and SJWs bitching, because there are none in Japan, and specially among Japanese otaku and fujoshi circles. That was even the point that started this discussion >>82597238 >>82598634 Since no one is trying to censor their shows they are free to make any type of character, with flaws and traits you don't usually see in cartoons, which in turn makes them better and more complete. Sure you get the usual 1 dimensional moeblobs but there are also very deep and complex characters, both male and female.
>>
>>82600215
I simply meant that "female positive" evokes the Guybrush/Galbrush thing, not that it's actually relevant in Japan.

>Sure you get the usual 1 dimensional moeblobs but there are also very deep and complex characters, both male and female.
There is no such thing as a moeblob, and a character does not need to be deep and complex to be good. For example, there is nothing deep or complex about Nori from Hidamari Sketch, but I still like her a lot. In much the same way that I would like a real person. Should real people also be complex and deep before you can like them?
>>
>>82600405
I never said moeblobs were bad, I actually enjoy simple shows more since they're less taxing to the mind. My point is that cartoon and mainstream comic fans don't have that luxury of choosing between the two thanks to the regressive views of a minority that sadly is in charge of those industries.
