I never thought I'd say this but, I miss Andrew Garfield. He was WAY better than the toddler they got. Heck, I would of preferred they got a PoC and use Miles instead (and cast Jaden).

He's a 15 year old nerd circa 2016 not 1996. It's reasonable he doesn't know what an AT-AT is. You're old anon.

Also it's kinda good he actually looks and sounds like a 15 year old seeing as Amerifats usually have 30somethings portraying teens.

>>82553046
>Why is this a requirement to be a nerd?

It isn't. Most people, including OP, seem to often confuse the word "nerd" with "geek". Nerds are people who excel in academics. Geeks are folks who are into inconsequential hobbies and shit on a considerable level. Someone can be both at the same time, but these concepts are not one and the same. MCU Peter is a nerd, as the character always has been. But as far as we know at the time, is apparently not a geek.

It can really be ridiculously right-wing and xenophobic. Either you have seen the movies or know more than the average person based off the fact that you browse /co/.

Peter in this is 15. The OT movies came out in the 80's. That means those movies are 20 something years older than him. Its not too crazy to think that he only has passing knowledge of the star wars films.

I loved this spidey. At first I wanted an older Spiderman. I hated the idea of a fifteen year old spidey. Man the movie changed my mind. He's just fucking perfect. His demeanor as Peter wasn't overly nerdy like some caricature. Neither was he a broody skateboarder with a porky pig stutter.

They don't. They're "Imperial Walkers". You only know they're AT-ATs if you had the toy or went into the EU at least a little.

Keep in mind that by the time Petey could read all the newer EU products were prequel Clone Wars stuff in which the AT-AT didn't exist.

Honestly I expect there's a good chance he's like most millennials. Studies have shown that if you were born after 1999 there's a statistically far greater chance you think that the OT was not amazing.

It's like how not many people these days think Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon are amazing. The only reason Flash is still marginally relevant is the Queen song and the 80s movie.
>>
>>82561517
He literally says his senses overwhelm him. He needs to grow into it. Also we see that in this movie he is reacting, it's just that his reaction is "look to see what this alert is for" instead of "DODGE MOTHERFUCKER". He hasn't drilled himself into instinctual avoidance yet, that's the whole 6 months into a gig as a 15 year old kid thing kicking in.

Well the thing is, I don't think anyone born after the 80s (which would be most of the people on this board) can truly, fully appreciate just how tremendous Star Wars was. I mean, I was born right on the boundary and by the time I saw Star Wars for the first time back when I was a kid, it was the Special Editions. By that point, technology had already progressed to the point where Star Wars isn't as impressive as it was back when it was first released. Unless you were born in that era and saw Star Wars in the context of the time, you can't really fully comprehend just how amazing it was. I sure don't. I mean, I know it's amazing because these films were made in 1977 and few things back then had the level of SFX that Star Wars had, but when I was a kid, computers were already being used more and more in films.

Oh absolutely, I was an 85 babby so I first saw them on VHS when I was old enough, in 1990, and grey up with the EU that spawned again in 1992 after Zahn's Thrawn trilogy. I was right in the second heyday of Star Wars. So to me not knowing at AT AT seems weird. But then I remember that in the 60s and 70s Star Trek OS was huge and I know very little about that beyond Shatnervoice, Kirk fucking green women, KHAAAAAAN, Scotty saying she just cannae do it cap'n and nuclear wessels.

He doesn't sound sixteen, he sounds like he was just born. Which considering he's 19 (almost twenty) is kinda sad. There's a difference between sounding like a teen and sounding like the kid from Star Wars ep 1 (which is who Holland sounds like).

They need to get rid of him and bring Andrew back.
>>
>>82566132
Ok
>>
>>82566034
Ignoring the fact that a nerd like Peter didn't know the name, it was just cringy dialogue. It was like watching the Raimi movies again. I expected better from Marvel Studios. But they disappointed me. I'm more excited for X-Men Apocalypse since CW was so meh. Singer knows how to make good superhero movies.
>>
>>82566132
Andrew's too old to play the character now. It was embarrassing watching him trying to pass himself off as a fresh-outta-highschool grad with those lines on his forehead.

>>
>>82566240
I would prefer a older actor play Spider-Man that actually sounds Spider-Man than a older actor that sounds like Anakin from episode 1.
>>
>>82566234
No. Because if we're being completely honest with ourselves, the X-Men, at least in Singer's movies seem absolutely nothing like superheroes.
>>
>>82566317
They made Peter his age specifically because they wanted something different for the MCU. Peter fulfills a unique niche that literally no other character in the franchise can right now. Vision aside, the next-youngest character is the twenty-something-year-old Wanda. Everyone else is in their late-twenties to late-forties.
>>
>>82566315
A person who sounds like a baby when he's suppose to sound like a young kid in highschool? Is that what an actor is? If so, Tom Holland is the biggest actor ever. They should cast him as Lex Luthor.
>>
>>82566317
Canonically, Spider-Man is 15 when he first got bit. I am so sorry that you don't know what an actual teenager sounds like, but if you did have a clue then you'd acknowledge that Tom Holland did a great fucking job.

You might have aspirations of youth, but no one cares about the fact that you're not a child anymore, so stop knocking Holland for sounding authentic.
>>
>>82566390
So essentially, this guy has got it >>82566432. I'm sorry you are obviously so far past your teens that you've forgotten what high-schoolers sound like, but stop being so butt hurt about the fact that for once, casting has actually been absolutely realistic on what Peter should look, act and sound like.

Except for the part where the X-Men are superheroes who save humans (and mutants) and the whole world. But I forgot I was talking to a MCUck who only watches the Meme Cinematic Universe and hated anything that wasn't made by Disney because MUH BRAND. How sad really. Singer's X-Men is the best (and without it the MCU wouldn't exist). But you keep watching your memeverse movies.
I'll be watching good superhero movies like X-Men Days of Future Past and Deadpool.

>is suppose to be a nerd but doesn't remember what AT-ATs are called

As per >>82565251, 616 Spidey hates Star Wars (I blame Uncle Ben overhyping it right around the time that the prequels came out). It's quite possible that MCU Spidey also does as well and therefore doesn't know or care that the walkers in question are called AT-ATs.

>didn't even make his own suit (had to have Tony Stark make it)

That's because Peter can't realistically afford a movie-quality superhero suit. Frankly, it's amazing that he managed to make his web-fluid and web-shooters on his budget.
>>
>>82566958
It's easier to find usable tech in the trash than it is to find intact pieces of fabric for your superhero suit.
>>
>>82566234
You who Marvel Studios should have got to write Spider-Man's dialogue? Max Landis. Max Landis would be perfect to write Spider-Man. Hell, Disney should've had Max Landis write Civil War. Max Landis's Civil War would of been way better than what we got honestly. Max Landis really gets the characters. Max Landis even wrote a really good Shocker story that would be perfect for Marvel Studios to adapt.
>>
>>82554379
I wonder when Bendis will just fucking drop it and accept that Miles will never be as popular as Peter. It's not like there's any shame in that, he's /literally/ the biggest comic character /ever/. >Besides it never made sense that Tobey and Garfield made those expensive looking suits in their bedroom

actually, with how cheap stuff is nowadays, this is a part that i can believe.

he could have just purchased some cheap china made spandex / wetsuits and stitched the stuff together.

i was more annoyed that garfield stole the web fluid from ozcorp instead of making his own using his father's files.

and i was infinitely more annoyed that asm 1 wasn't a standalone film as was promised by the trailers.

ASM2 DENIAL HEADCANON:

connors had created a secret way of producing recombination serum by adapting one of the web spiders to secrete it in its venom. he did this because ozcorp is getting tighter with his financing.

the spider gets loose and ends up back in the web room, since spiders are drawn to humidity and a big room dedicated to silk generation via spider would have to be humid to keep them all alive.

having the recombination serum being made in a spider messes with the serum's purity, even with countermeasures taken to prevent gene mixing, so you end up with spiderman.

the really shitty part about this is that it would have taken all of 10 seconds of additional filming to establish this.

- one second where the plans for the recombination spider spill out when peter is visiting connors at his lab. big arrow to the spiders fangs says 'blank recombination serum, hopefully'.

- a few seconds where connors' boss rakes him over the coals about misusing resources and he promises to limit his use of the recombinator

- a few seconds more where we see connors desperately searching for something in the background as the red and blue spider crawls in the direction of the web room in the foreground.

and just like that asm could have been a decent standalone film. asm1 honestly has my favorite parker, who is the most like a modern version of the original peter parker and is the most plausible personality from which spiderman could emerge.
>>
>>82552864

EPIN.
>>
>>82568279
in addition to this, having a personality radicalizing blank recombination serum released into the ny public is the PERFECT explanation for why so many supervillains originate from there.

asm2 was such wasted potential.

>"He's perhaps the most powerful child soldier in the world, but uh... [...] There's a certain narcissism to the character, and Tony doesn't want to lose this fight. At the same time, he also sees Spider-Man as the greatest living non-lethal weapon. If you're going out to capture a bunch of people who you don't necessarily want to hurt, you couldn't ask for a better character than Spider-Man to take with you. He does show up and illustrate that Spider-Man, he knows how powerful he is in a video where we see Spider-Man stopping a car moving 40 mph, where he catches it and puts it back on the ground, so, I think he believes that he's taking with him perhaps one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe, and I think he feels like the kid will be well-protected under his tutelage. We also find out in that sequence, when things go wrong, the kid says "What do I do", and Tony says "keep your distance, web 'em up", so he's obvious mentored the kid for what's about to go down."
>"But it's still very irresponsible."

He wanted Peter in as a non-lethal weapon. He believed that there was no one else in the entire MCU who'd be better for taking someone in without hurting them than Spider-Man.
