Well if you must know, we're watching RENT
>>
I paid attention, I just didn't do it because I dunno.
>>
>>82541363
yeah. i miss those. i just missed it last time. also rain takes a long time to draw
>>
>>82541404
No it doesn't...
>>
>>82541535
You have to draw each individual droplet with the reflection inside. About 200 times. Why do that?
>>
>>82541601
well i didnt mean THAT
but it is a lot of droplets and keeping them all parallel, making some difference in depth.. then there's drawing the character all properly wet, possibly with drops dripping off of them.. honestly it's a great exercise we SHOULD do
>>
>>82541827
Just airbrush with a 500 px and pretend the droplets are very small.
Please, I use SAI, you have to use the line tool to make straight lines. I should have listened to those fire alpaca users, I should have.
>>
>>82540611
Because people will get their hands either busy on their comic or busy in shitposting.
>>
is it normal for you guys to listen to music for whatever your doing? My sister does this and it kind of annoys me sometimes but apparently there's a certain asthetic it creates.
>>
>>82541913
what is the difference
>>
>>82542086
When drawing, yeah. When writing story, no. But of course. Different strokes for different folks. Lining a sketch and filling base colors can be pretty boring desu
>>
>>82542086
Yes. I usually play three songs in repeat (Goodbye to a World by Porter Robinson, L.O.V.E by Sophie, and DJ Mason's Exceeder.) It usually annoys me so much listening to this shit I try to work faster to finish.
>>
>>82542147
In FA, iirc, you can hold shift to make straight lines and you don't have to make a new layer for it.
Also, they have pre-programmed grids that locks your lines in place.
I downloaded it yesterday, but only to place text on a picture but I used to main on it until I switched back to SAI for muh textures (which I don't even use). FA also has better effects like the gaussian blur and the pixelater. gdi
>>
>>82542171
That's strange, it's usually for writing the story. There where a few days non stop tango and Argentinian music was playing in our house, weird. Well at least I know other people do it now.
>>82542209
That's a creative motivator you've got there
>>
>>82542086
it depends entirely on the kind of music. it can be distracting or really pumpupping
>>
>>82542289
>tango and Argentinian music
fucking why
>>
>>82542275
that just sounds like a more gimped version of SAI, which was already a more gimped veresion of PS.
>>
>>82542593
I don't use PS because I like my layers and I don't want to mod it.
Plus, SAI and FA doesn't take 10 seconds to load like Gimp or PS.
>>
Use Clip Studio if you can.

It's betterer.
>>
>>82542366
That's odd, I wouldn't imagine it'd bother your drawing. What do you listen too?
>>82542493
Well it's always something different depending on where the story's at. One time it was Arabic, another time Gypsie, other times 80's. Other than that, it'll be her normal alternative music like Nervana and Marcy Playground.

Yeah, well you see here's the thing.

My sister has been drawing Jello and pup since she was like 5 years old, and the parents loved it. I guess I got sort of jealous of her so I started my own little fan comic called Yogurt and Pappy. Eventually we both stopped doing those and went our seperate ways, with our comics. I moved on to west tree, and she moved on to fanart.

She's currently loving doing fanart of archer, hopefully she's finally getting over her Hamilton phase.

Me and my sister did a comic in high school called 'real motherfuckin' vampires'. Van Helsing hires a bunch of Crips to help him fight the vampires who have taken over the Bloods. Should I just post my comic in Tumblr? Does that sound like a good idea? Or should I make my own website? But I don't want to make a website specifically for a comic.
>>
>>82551649
>But I don't want to make a website specifically for a comic.
Why not? A lot of webcomic creators have sites specifically just for their comic.

Tumblr is one option, but you should research appropriate themes. There are also comic hosting sites like Tapastic, Comicfury, SmackJeeves, etc. If you go with your own site, then WordPress with ComicEasel or another webcomic suitable theme is a good option.
I have my own site running WordPress w/ ComicEasel.

Ah, feels so good to draw with a more cartoony style every once in a while. So easy and effortless to throw a couple of curvy lines together and create something cutesy. Sometimes I wonder if I've made a mistake when deciding to make my ''official'' style anatomically more realistic and accurate.

Btw, I don't know why I do these warm-ups before starting to write.

1/3 of that last thread was SHOW US PICS OF YOUR SISTER XD and "Yeah, there are girls in these threads c-cute ones too!" Notice how the women in these threads, despite being nearly half the posters, never post about wanting a QT comics BF or speculate about how cute you may or may not be irl. I want to just draw and not have my fucking romantic potential touched on every time my gender is made apparent. Godspeed to the Mimi author in this regard.
>>
>>82553422

>>82553517
I understand why people make posts like that, I "know where I am", etc, but just make a blog or okcupid as an outlet instead of the webcomic thread, you know? /soc/ is only a click away.

>>82553538
What's the relevance of this and why do you even know or care?
>>
>>82553813
The relevance is you never see the female posters moan about not having a bf because they mostly already have them (or husbands).
>>
>>82553813
oh god, /soc/. not even once.
anyway, there are no satisfying outlets, the hunger doesn't go away until it's satisfied. this problem isn't going to be solved until women stop seeing men as an annoyance and hate how they're always reacting excitedly when they hear there's girls around. best make your peace with it now.
>>
>>82553927
I've been single for five years and do not feel so anguished about it that I have to make comments about dudes in the threads (and I only mention it now to prove a point.) Then again, I don't find the state of singleness to be a problem that needs to be solved either.

>>82553932
Okay, but can you imagine going into a male dominated area to show your work and the focus being how cute (or not cute) you are? This isn't even exclusively on /hywc/ - this happens to me irl too. Men act interested in your work so that they can "get to know you" - the big appeal of 4chan is you can post your work without having an identity; your work is evaluated objectively. I don't want the same bias I experience irl to creep into these threads, potentially diminishing the caliber of comment/crituque the women artists in these threads receive. So it's not being annoyed so much as being worried that I won't get told when my shit stinks.
>>
>>82554270
yeahhhh THAT is a problem. It sucks having to secondguess everything. I'm with you there
Still, beats being shat on automatically for being male.
>>
>>82553813
I don't even want a boyfriend, I just say stuff like that because it's fun.
Do you WANT me to whine to every male in this thread to date me? That would be annoying and I would be lying.
It's not even girls who are affected by that LONDON maymay. I have seen gays that do it to girly looking guys. I have seen women (probably) do it to guys.
>>82554270
Then again here. You're anonymous so it doesn't matter at all. I use a pseudonym on my comic to pretend to be male because I know (hypothesize) more males would read my sort of comic and I don't want to place any politics in it. And I've seen other women and men do the same and it's kind of funny.

That said, I only know for sure the gender of two posters here and the rest I just don't even think about.

Both genders get shit on in different, totally real ways, but at the end of the day male is still the default. You can mention you're a dude casually without being accused of being a snowflake or attention whore.

I'm curious why you think that. I also think you might be surprised, depending on your comic. I'm writing a typically male-aimed genre with a male-heavy cast and most of my few vocal fans have been female.

My comic's all about Satan (not really, but he still has a big part) and he's a pretty cool guy. Very misunderstood. There are worse things to be haunted by, trust me.

Anyway, fuck I'm so into witches right now. I told about the zombie detective on the other day and the witch who brought him back to life, and I think this is more or less what I want the witch to look like. Just a hint of mystery and cat-ness, but not too enigmatic. Mostly she's just an ordinary girl, with ordinary girl problems.

More like "you never were a theater kid if you haven't seen RENT" or listened to multiple poor audition renditions of "One Song Glory" and/or "Out Tonight"

I had so much RENT from 7th - 12th grade that it's like a really good food I can't eat anymore cause I had it too many times.

What other musicals do you guys like? Personally my favorites are A Chorus Line, Next to Normal, and (of course) Avenue Q. Rock of Ages is a close forth, if only for the unbridled camp.

>>82559111
I wanted to base an entire section of my comic off of 3 music artists but I'm seriously reevaluating it because one character would stuck in some area that wouldn't be part of the plot at all but then that would mean the other characters could grow.
Most songs other than that affect the emotions of the characters but none of the real things in it.
>>
>>82557355
yeah, I don't want to rush anything and have mediocre panels because I was hasty
>>
>>82559111
Well you see, the characters travel through time and too different cultures in order to gain a certain objective, so depending on the culture or time period they're in she'll do research and play that culture/time's music. One of her favorite songs is "we didn't start the fire", I feel like it's very heavily influenced by that considering the historical events the characters encounter.
>>82559180
No way, she does that too! I'm glad, I thought this was a really weird thing to do at first.
>>
>>82542086
Whenever I make my artwork I usually listen to 90s electronica like Flex Busterman or Kt &Hex I feel like visualizing what the music would "look like" helps me gather more personality in my creations. I also feel that listening to music from the time period I'm trying to emanate in my artwork helps me capture it better.

>>82558634
Thanks! Yeah I'm trying to make it full of tiny details and references since this image will be shown in an intro sequence for an entire series I'm working on if only for a few seconds. I'm trying to do something where you'll notice a new detail every time you watch it. There's several other references in there as well, mostly in the stickers on the window.

>>82558730
this guy is correct
>>
>>82542086
It's weird. In my case I listen to a song that I played a lot while playing a video game and I listen to that song while I draw sections that are obvious references to said video game.
>>
>>82559597
>trying to emanate in my artwork helps me capture it better.

>>82560111

>>

It does but it pisses me off sometimes.
>playing stick rangers
>have synesthesia of a song, J-nu-bossa nova and start hallucinating it
>playing WoW
>same shit, Christian rock
>playing, I don't know, Psychonauts
>start hearing breakcore
And it's all on point and exactly like the song. The only time this doesn't happen is when the music in the game is good enough for me not to change the music. And I play too many video games for any of my art to not have influences from it.

Right now I'm doing a sort of cyberpunk comic centering around the classic "Mercenary takes simple job that ends up putting the fate of the universe in their hands" as well as a series of animated tech reviews roughly based in the same universe. The setting Is retrofuturistic of the 90s (kind of like Johnny mnemonic, Hackers, VR Troopers, The matrix, Lain, etc) so I feel listening to popular music among the cyber culture of the decade (or something close to it) helps a lot. Here's some of my favorite examples.

How many of you guys have demons in your comic or a demon character? Looking though here it seems pretty generic to have a demon characters and now I feel unoriginal.

ooh me! plenty of those. it was the Xanth influence I think. It's fun having a bunch of supernatural assholes that can't really be harmed normally or banished without a lot of work and preparation.. but who mainly just fuck with people despite the easy ability to do a lot worse.
>>
>>82562901
Demons can be anything. It doesn't dictate the quality or direction of the story.

Makes the question kinda meaningless.
>>
>>82563035
well I think they were thinking something along the lines of like.. how often edgy teenage comics about weird quirky roommates hanging out, happen to involve demons. but that hasnt really been commonly true in a decade.
actually, if the Preteen Demon lady is here, she might give us some insight. iirc it's a sequel to her husband's old comic, which was very much an authentic 00s 'haha we hang around with demons we're roommates it's so fun' comic in the same vein as Krakow
>>
>>82562901
