Was Boomhauer a serial killer?
He was a Texas Ranger

If this is true, why did that never affect the plot?
Like the times they get in trouble with the law, or when he got committed to a mental hospital?

He's under cover. Someone's gotta watch Hank after he blew up the Megalomart, that car dealership, flooded part of Arlen, etc.
Also there's Dale too.
The mental hospital thing was a misunderstanding.

People other than his friends can barely understand him

aren't you?

I honestly believe he didn't become one until towards the end of the series.

This always struck me as odd.
The episode where Debbie was murdered, a Texas Ranger from the other side of Texas came in and helped solve the case.
Yet it happened where Boomhauer, a Texas Ranger, lives.
The job thing was probably an after thought during the final episode.

You know he could of requested not to be part of the case since it was so close to home.

Maybe he didn't want to investigate due to him being so close to the people involved. Might cloud his judgement.

This is true, considering how Hank was a suspect.
