Silver eyes thing was kind of implicitly foreshadowed all over the place though.
Aside from the whole episode one comment, there's also the fact that Silver has always been a pretty big deal in a variety of stories. Silver tends to be a pretty important thing in many stories because of that, so the fact that Ruby is the only character with that eye color, and they explicitly made it a point to mention it in the first episode; show it was going to be at least somewhat important later on.

Foreshadowing isn't really something that spoils a surprise though (despite what some idiots may think). Foreshadowing is essentially a seemingly minor thing that alludes to or is relevant to a future event in some manner. That's pretty much it.
Say a character make notes of a prized gun they have hanging on the wall at some point. While most people would just ignore such a minor comment, a keen viewer is supposed to take note of them, and expect it to be used in some way later on. It's more of a thing meant to reward the observant rather than bash you over the head with "this is important, remember it!".

Monty had a huge boner for Final Fantasy VIII.
This show is filled with references, imagery, and plot points lifted straight from Final Fantasy VIII, and we haven't even left Vale yet. Even Monty's last minute edition to the show, the seasonal maiden, is literally how the Sorceresses work from FFVIII. Like, so disgustingly similar that all you need to do is replace "Seasonal Maiden" with "Sorceress" and "Old Man" with "Hyne" and it's the exact same fucking thing.
Final Fantasy VIII was filled with time shenanigans throughout the entire second half of the game.
While that's not a guarantee RWBY will have time shenanigans, brace yourself for it being a very strong possibility.

To be fair, when I use the term "shitty" I usually mean it affectionately. I prefer admitting there are faults in the things I like and enjoy them despite those problems rather than be a fan who ignores them and considers it perfect.
But yeah, a lot of the issues with DBZ, especially with the cell arc in particular, can be traced to editors butting in. Pretty common in the manga industry for both ill and good at times. From what I seen, most of what Toriyama comes up with by himself seems to be pretty good.
