Byron (a Zootopia director) is an actor, an artist, an animator, a producer and a genius. And I bet he knows more.

How can someone become cool like him?

Follow your dreams it's what I do.

I think the message of the movie is very clear and gives answers to multitude of questions, OP's including.

I'm firmly convinced the success of the movie was merely a by-product of talented crew doing their best with great joy and care.

On repeated viewings, I started to realize that Nick is a bit too smug and comes off as a serious jerk until the midpoint of the film.

There's also very little downtime in the film. Everything is very neat and orderly and moves from one plot point to the next with very little downtime. Which is a bit of a shame considering just how interesting the world is. I found myself having more fun with the generic everyday life bits of the movie than everything else. It was fun to watch Judy go about her daily routine and explore the other districts of the city while spying on Nick.
>>

Go see the movie again and become unbored.
>The ride never ends

Gotta leave room for the sequel/spinoffs, goyim.

I really liked the scene where Judy returns to the family farm for this reason, actually. After an hour+ of fast-paced action, it was a surprise load of bucolic all over your face.
>>
>>82195493
Invasive species would be a really interesting topic to think about in the context of Zootopia. Rabbits are presented as being on the lower end of the social order, but if they're anywhere near as aggressively expansionist as in real life they would be ruling an empire spanning just about every continent besides Asia.

Felt that Nick had very little emotion because of how smug he was whereas Judy showed the whole range which was nice.

Overall, Nicks smug needs to be turned down a bit so it's not his defining characteristic.

Well in this scenario the rabbits would be the white Australian analogue, and various native wallabies and wombats would be the indigenous Australians who the rabbits deliberately tried to genocide and now give government aid to because of rabbit guilt. Boat people would be (insert animals native to SEA and Afghanistan here).

How did you two miss the entire point of Nick being that smug, even with multiple viewings? He's using it as a defense mechanism, it's a mask he wears to prevent himself from getting hurt and specifically from letting others know he's feeling certain emotions. That's why at the end, when he's dealt with that baggage, you finally see him completely smugless.

What I like about Gideon's apology is that it seemed rehearsed. Not in a bad way, but in a way that you can tell that either he had been thinking about it a long time or he had done it before with someone else he hurt.

The bridge scene was better though because, like above, you can tell she was thinking of it, but that in some way he broke her heart by leaving.
It's bad in how it force the ship; why would a tough bunny cop cry over something like that? We've seen her strong enough not to cry the whole movie then suddenly he gets tears.

But it wasn't. They could have dragged it out but they didn't. Nick could have easily responded during the apology but instead he recorded her and played it back as a way of saying apology accepted. Also have you ever talked to a woman before? Your mother doesn't count. Women are emotional. Tracing is not a bad way to get the idea of how a character looks, not to mention that it is one way to get a good feel of how to draw a character. But dont rely on tracing too much, after tracing once try to draw the character without any tracing and in a different stance/position to practice yourself senpai.

It is, actually. What you should be doing is sort of, uh, "mentally" tracing. Like, take a picture, have an empty sheet of blank paper next to it, and re-draw the picture while not looking at what you're drawing, just sort of imagining that you actually are tracing while in fact, you aren't.

It's a pretty good exercise for hand, uh, coordination? Positioning? Not sure what you'd call it.

But yeah, tracing isn't very good.
>>
>>82198217
That is true. Though i dont mind feeling sad sometime. You need to balance the sad and the happy.
>>
>>82198222
Tracing is an option that one can use if they are a beginner on something. Take note that it is not a bad option but it is not a good option either, hence why one must still draw through practice and without physical tracing.
>>
>>82197685
Seriously, this very much. I was actually expecting him to say something like "well, that's what my shrink says" until I remembered that it probably isn't the kind of subject you'd find directly mentioned in a film for all audiences.

But it did feel as if that was, in some way, the intend they had when writing his little apology.
>>
>>82198206

Well, she was a pretty tough bunny, but that doesn't mean she has to be tough all the time. She had fucked up beyond recognition, sparked a race war, hurt a man she was beginning to understand was a really good guy, and what's worse, she was actually getting PRAISED for completely ruining everything she ever felt was good and made the world a better place. Which, let me tell you, can fuck you up something fierce if you have a conscience.

So that's probably just Judy *finally* breaking down from everything that had gone wrong.

Tracing really is the worst kind of practice you can do, but it's not entirely without pros. Tracing can help your trokes if you focus on that at least. Using your shoulder for longer lines and wrist for smaller lines, as long as you have this in mind i think you have something to learn. But you should definitely advance past that point within a week or much less as you have little to learn through it.

Mentally referencing. "Free hand".

This.
I'm sure there are some positive uses, but I can't think of any either. It's also very frowned upon. At least if you're not honest about it don't give credit in case he original wasn't by you.
But it's pretty good for ripping off people who simply don't know any better, or even deny it because they don't want to feel stupid wasting money on a thief. Several (porn) artists got away with it, sadly.

Even tracing your own images isn't as hot. If you're dishonest about it and do it all the time, you'll be considered a lazy hack. It takes some minimal experience with the tools to trace and zero skill.

Oh, I wasn't at all trying to say the contrary. Seeing a shrink isn't a bad thing in any way.

It's just that he expressed all of what he felt in a surprisingly eloquent way, as if it actually was something he had been told by someone else. People aren't so good at putting their own feelings and reasoning into words, and talking about it openly also feels like the kind of thing a psychiatrist might tell someone to do.

Artists being discouraged into actively looking up fan creations has been a thing for a while. Not just in in animation. There might not be any legal issues if they happen to take ideas, but their fans may not like it.
Companies would be seen as thieving execs, or plain lazy and unoriginal. They want to avoid any backlash, neither compensate the victim.

Why do you think do some Pokémon designs for example look so outlandish? One of the devs said that they avoid fan designs when comming up with new ideas, but it's quite obvious that they check if something has been already made or not. There has been so many nice and frankly obvious designs by two/three fakemon artists. Those are just the popular fanartists of many, many more.
