It's a story that was probably better suited to a video game, novel, comic, or arc on Rebels. And was done before in the old EU a few times that way. And no John Williams is terrible. It still looks cool though imo, but all the OT stuff with modern effects does feel different. I also like the director quite a bit, his Godzilla movie was great.

The digital tech they had for inserting actors into scenes like that wasn't quite up to snuff yet. Ironically I think by modern standards they would have used MORE cgi to make it real, by making it seem the background was more alive. Everything from the dust motes to the rays of light would be digital, and better matched with the actors to make it seem like they were part of the painting - or just to make them all seem like part of an actual location
