They likely use the type of people who got their place for their connections, looks and 'attitude' (you know what I'm talking about. Identifying the 'in crowd') about certain things. Nepotism and clique-y talent gathering filtered through an obvious agenda likely stunted this project to a piss poor state of mind and that's why the lack of quality control is so evident.

We're just really sore because the original PPG was so iconic and good and this kinda shits all over it. Like atleast Teen Titans GO tried to be half-way decent, in it's own aggrandizing, patronizing way with a really tongue-in-cheek touch of humor. The animation and voice acting wasn't dogshit bananas either, a fact applying this show because the creators wanted to plaster the face of Le Quirky tumblresque gurrrls on a poster instead of getting good VAs. One can only imagine the animators were hired for similar flights of fancy.

I really wouldn't call it worse, because unlike the reboot, not only does it lack any animation errors, but also it actually has a clear direction of what it's trying to be. It's trying to unify all the characters into a single coherent artstyle instead of going full Gumball with a each individual character looking like it was from a different show (in some cases this is literal, the dream bears are just assets from WBB). At the very least an effort was made here, far more of one than what I can say for the reboot. It's especially pathetic if you consider this is one guy's hobby vs an entire teams career.
