Noticed this while going through my Storm the Castle rewatch. It's an 8th note that pops up during the wand's explosion. Shows up a couple times in this sequence. Could it be nothing? Could it be EVERYTHING? Who knows, it's kind of neat though.

I've actually tried to look for hints like that during the explosion and the part immediately after when Starco leave the cage, but couldn't find any myself and just assumed it was a generic explosion after all.
This show has set so much shit up in 13 episodes that the next seasons could be fucking mindblowing if handled even halfway decently.

Yeah, though it's a weird scene to me. Like, I felt like Star's angle came kind of out of nowhere? She hasn't really expressed frustration toward Marco's caution, that we've seen, so it felt very sudden to me. But even with that, I feel like they managed to sell it pretty well? I dunno.
I really liked the bit where Marco hit the sandwich out of Star's hand and clearly immediately regretted it, but was too caught up in the moment to apologize right away. I thought that was really well executed and #relatable

There have been some dumbass animation errors with the newer style (in Mewberty there are a few times when all Star's purple hearts just disappear even though that's the point of the damn episode), but overall I think it's not as bad as people like to moan about. The colors and poses are all still great anyway because those are actually decided by the creative team in the states, so unless it just becomes fucking still frames like a slideshow it's hard to imagine it looking terrible.
Also, on that note, it is dumb as hell when people post still frames from different sequences in different episodes as an attempt to compare the animation styles, as well as make claims like the sound quality also got worse with the animation studio switch when of course one has fucking nothing to do with the other.
I love the show but Christ is the fanbase cancer when it gets "mad" over trivial shit.

I hope not, that's too corny. I think the royal family line has their own magic in addition to the wand that normally goes untapped.
Even outside of her turning into a bug thing there implications that she wouldn't just be a normal human without the wand. She's even said she's not human, more or less.

It's not perfect but it's definitely far from bad, and could easily get better within the next 2 seasons. It goes somewhere different toward the end of the season than where it begins, and the first episode isn't a great representation of the general tone of the show. Just saying that because it seems a lot of people quit then or draw conclusions about the entire thing from it, like calling it purely episodic when it's not.
I'd honestly give it about a 7.5/10 on the whole so far; can go into more detail if you're curious.

It's not a lot like it, but they're not polar opposites either.
There's less focus on foreshadowing/implying plot points, but that is still there, to a lesser extent-- it's just that those plot points haven't had the chance to come to fruition yet because the first season was so short.
One difference that could seem annoying is that the majority of the episodes are 2 11-minute stories instead of 1 22-minute one. There are two full-length episodes though; they seem to save that for the most important ones storywise.
The reason for that is because of another difference between the 2: Star is board-driven and has more focus on animation, with crazier expressions, while GF is script-driven. Apparently it's harder to do a half-hour episode through boards alone which is why Star does it sparingly.
I hope Marco gets his dick ripped off by a monster and then grows up to be Oskar

It's pretty good. Certainly not perfect, but it's really fun, and has a lot of potential. It starts off rough, and has more than its fair share of dud episodes, but there's a constant trend of improvement throughout the first season.
The relationship between the main characters is really charming and believable, and is a pretty big draw regardless of whether or not you ship it.
About 2/3 of the way through, the show starts getting a little bit more plot-heavy, with the introduction of a proper Big Bad and a bit more worldbuilding. I highly recommend watching until then before deciding if you like it, because I expect that's going to be a little more in line with what we'll be getting on season 2.

Took me a while but I finally went through all of the episodes for my smears/inbetweens hunt. It's not every single one in the series but most of them are there and any that aren't are pretty negligible. My original goal was to find the more visually appealing and interesting ones anyways. Once the animation quality began to decline, I had to take what I could get. Sorted em by episode so it wasn't a huge clusterfuck of an album. Take a peek if you want, some of them are pretty neat.

Unless Adam is a liar or an idiot, he already semi-confirmed it'll be longer by saying we'd be "happy" with the number of episodes. And recording's been going on for nearly a year now and still isn't completed-- Adam said back in September he thought they were halfway done with the season, then found out he was wrong and they still hadn't reached that point yet.

The green I'm not particularly proud of, in hindsight: as an Anon pointed out, it came out a little bit forced because of me rushing it, and the punchline is a little excessive.
I'm gonna keep "The First Time" as it is, though — it's not my intention to pull off a George Lucas!
That said, I was planning on taking the green, re-working it, and re-purposing it as the first chapter for the Manna story that I've been struggling since forever to write. Let's see if this project sees the light of day!

I think the biggest problem with the green was not the excess in itself — the series has a lot of happenstances of Marco reacting in an exaggerated way — but in the fact that it was kind of "not earned".
If drawing a graph of Marco's strain during the course of the story, the problem is not the final peak, but the drastic ramps that lead to it: I should've be doing a better job at describing the growing tension and paranoia, up until the meltdown.
Would've actually required even MORE excess, in fact, but a measure that justified the final burst and payoff.

Marco thinking Star is "Dangerous" is something introduced pretty much since episode 1 and is a big point of Storm the Castle since its when Marco is for the first time very fed up with Star's dangerous antics which leads to them fighting. It seems Marco's original excitement for adventure that made him tolerate Star's more dangerous antics is starting to fade out.
Probably such a thing will continue to be explored, Marco being kidnapped because Star and Star blaming herself for it was already pretty grim in the finale, its very likely they will continue to explore that issue in their relationship.

See, I always got the vibe in the first episode that he saw her as more of a rude nuisance-- but then again it's been a while since I've watched that episode. Him being a bit scared of her is definitely more interesting to me in the context of them being extremely close friends, though.
I do think "Star carelessly bringing Marco into dangerous situations" has a bit of a different vibe than "Star herself being a dangerous, scary, powerful alien." When I wrote my Jarco story, I knew it had to be about dreams: Jackie is Marco's "dream girl", and he almost certainly idolizes her way too much. Then, in the storyMarco has the opportunity of discovering who Jackie is in reality, and in the very last scene Jackie herself tells him shes not his dream girl anymore, but just a girl.
That's how I imagine Jarco would develop, if ever: by the lovey delusions disappearing, and two normal teens finally able to see each other for what they are — and still liking what they see.

Dude, you've got a knack for drawing fantastic body proportions of the Star vs cast. You even managed to make one of Marco's embarrassed expressions look better than in the show. I would say that he's felt both feelings about Star over the course of their relationship together. Certainly the fear was more noticeable early and late on in the series, given the circumstances surrounding those points in time.
Where it differs is that as the series progresses he likely finds her less of a nuisance and more of a friend, meaning he's willing to put up with more of her more annoying actions given that he's supposed to be looking after her. In addition, as he gets to know her more and gets used to her, he likely forgets much of how dangerous she is given that's she's this sweet and kind friend of his.
His eagerness to get into more dangerous situations is tempered by the feeling that Star is always there on his side, she can always handle things if he does his part to keep her safe. Events like Storm the Castle just bring to light the unwelcome truth that when it comes down to it, Star's the one with the awesome power and Marco couldn't do anything to temper that in the event that it came to that. No matter how good friends they are that reality is likely prevalent in his mind, doubly more so now in light of the events of Storm the Castle. It could genuinely lead to a fear induced moment from Marco and the rest of the earth inhabitants,and it'd be amazing.

There's a lot of great Jarco stuff on the booru as well, the show hasn't done a good job at all in setting the two of them up in a good light, we've only seen Marco's rather misguided side of it. Man, I'd love that. I've been enjoying the recent trend in cartoons where one character will put another on a pedestal and be super crushing on their own manufactured perception of them, and then eventually come to realize that oh, no wait, that's dumb, they're just a person.
Whether or not that results in a relationship, it winds up with the characters having a much healthier dynamic, and being able to relax around each other, which I love to see.Dipper&Wendy and Finn&PB are the examples of this that come to mind

Actually, I'm not very faithful to the show's proportions: I tend to draw the characters way taller and with smaller heads, in order to better adapt to the poses that I like to try.
My pencils are messy and rough: you can see the numerous strokes of eraser in that sketch, and that is even more apparent "live" than from what you could tell by the scanned version. I couldn't ever be a painter: I'd just produce blots of color barely sticking to the cloth!

I've been wondering for a while, what fighting-game archtypes do you think the cast of SvtfoE would fit in?
I guess could assume Star would be an All Rounder, since she's got good zoning and good close combat skills, while Marco could be a Rushdown since he can only rely on getting close and hit as fast and hard as possible.
Do you think those calls are right or wrong? And what archtype do think that characeters like Janna, Tom, Jackie, etc. would fit into?I know we lack some info so this is mostly headcanon grounds.

Whilst I'm not 100% on the names of specifc archtypes in fighting games, I could see the characters taking after certain examples. Like for Star, I could see her fitting a Dr. Doom type character from Marvel vs Capcom 3? The reasoning being hers and Doom's movesets revolving around spells, allowing for a more ranged or zonal based playstyle, but having the option of mixing up those moves with heavy hitting physical attacks like the foot dive, given that Star is strong but not particularly agile or quick. Star would also likely be a character you could spam with and be successfulif you're a dirty piece of shit that is.
As for Marco, I think he could easily fit either a rushdown or a combo based character for the reasons you outlined. However, I don't think he's physically tough/strong enough to fit the rushdown setup, given the idea is to overpower opponents in a burst of aggressiveness. Especially given his martial arts of choice is karate. I think a combo character like Zero from MvC, Lui Kang from Mortal Kombat or perhaps just going for a karate themed character like Makoto in Street Fighter.
