Remember that whole "meat and potatoes" thing from a few months ago? I feel like Rucka being put back on the book is more or less meant to be something to that effect. After the nigh-universally panned Finch run, DC seems to be saying "Fuck it, let's fix this shit by giving it to a previous writer the fans liked.".

Not bad thing, I'm looking forward to it, but this whole thing kinda reeks of damage control.

As far as teen books go, Gotham Academy seems to get recommended a lot but I haven't read it, I think it actually shares an artist with Silk.
Robin, Son of Batman has been an incredibly solid sort-of Teen book, the art and story have been 10/10.
DC doesn't have much in the horror genre, a la what Marvel's doing with Carnage right now, Indie-wise Providence is really, really good if you like Lovecraft and don't mind reading short stories. Injection is a really awesome horror-like story coming out now, check it out (I don't want to say too much about it, could ruin certain reveals in the first story arc).
Team book-wise, Justice League has been really good for it's duration, go grab the collected Nu52 run and start reading.

The last two are continuations of things that already existed (also they sell okay), the first two are written by writers that are going to be on books DC are pushing, Clean Room is written by Simone so she has a stable following, and all the minis and the other two books are selling like ass.

Uh they are? Variants only serve to inflate a company's standing in the industry.

If your book doesn't pull 20k on its own its gone among the big two.

You're assuming the trends on high profile books like Spider-Man and Batman are the norm for books that have never seen sales higher than 40k.
>>
>>81203037
Like... Most of Marvel's writers?

Slott, Soule, Lemire, all big names that have for the most part had much better DC work under their belts.
>>
>>81205589
his name doesn't have nearly the recognition yet, though, and name recognition is what sells comic books

So is Sheriff of Babylon a mini or not? Could have sworn I saw it solicited as an 8 part mini but the first trade only has the first 6 issues
>>
>>81206036
It was originally an 8 issue mini, then it got bumped up to 12 issues

now King says he already has a second series for it planned
>>
>>81205988
Things like Omega Men and Prez were never going to sell in floppies but they're niche enough to gain an audience in bookstores. DCYou was about trying to find more Dial Hs. DC Rebirth is about publishing trades twice as fast.

>>81206036
It got upgraded to 12 and King says it's ongoing so I guess they'll renumber after that or something.
>>
>>81205919
Ridiculously strict editorial control, including straight up re-writes of stuff without informing writers.

You never hear writers complain about it because Disney/Marvel makes them sign contracts swearing they won't talk bad about their practices. If there wasn't something like that you'd at least hear SOME creators complaining about things, but there's not a single peep, and that is extremely suspect.
>>
>>81206036
It was extended to a 12 issue mini recently

What did he even write there that was so good? JLA Confidential? Justice League Adventures? The only notable thing he wrote there was Arkham Asylum, and that's just one story.

Lemire's cape stuff has been mostly quality when he's doing solo work.

And that's just straight up wrong about Soule. Like, everything he put out besides Superman/Wonder Woman before signing his Marvel exclusive and getting saddled with Inhumans and Death of Wolverine was very good quality stuff.

Bedard's best thing at DC is R.E.B.E.L.S. and it's being storytimed this week.

>>
>>81206423
Man I can't tell you how much I'd be down for Weirdworld if it was written by someone competent like Spurrier.

It's a fucking Del Mundo art showcase title, that guy is the best artist in the business right now and he isn't given the quality writers he deserves. The closest he's come to drawing for a good writer was his phenomenal covers for X-Men Legacy.
>>
>>81206526
I love his Swamp Thing. His Red Lanterns was the best Lantern book of the New 52. He actually made Frankbolts work. And his creator-owned title, Letter 44, was really damn good first encounter stuff with a nice wide scope.

Yes, Inhumans and Death of Wolverine were ass. But, that would've happened to ANYONE slotted for those. Being "the guy we grabbed because he could work fast and fix Fraction's scripts" and "the guy who writes a lot of ongoings so we're throwing him on a weekly to drain as much money out of Wolverine as possible before Secret Wars" doesn't make him a worse writer.
>>
>>81206682
Is Omega Men a Lantern book?
>>
>>81206682
Oh wow, I had no idea we had a Soule shill in /co/. That's really, really, really pathetic.
>>
>>81206813
kinda? Kyle is in it but it doesn't usually get grouped with the other lantern stuff

also Sinestro was the best lantern book
>>
>>81206853
probably because everyone forgets Kyle is in it

but he did finally put his ring back on last issue
>>
i wonder if the price drop was less of a result of double shipping but a slight at marvel who stealthed the raise in price to 3.99 for all books and not offering any 2.99 titles.
>>
>>81207703
probably both

plus they may have figured out that they're never gonna beat Marvel in the floppy market and are definitely refocusing on the trade market, so why not get a little bit of good PR by dropping floppy prices?
>>
>>81206813
It has a lantern and Omega Men, as a property, is a spinoff of the GL mythos.

It's like, I dunno, Birds of Prey to Batman. There's a Batman character in it and there's stuff to do with the Batman Mythos in it but it kinds of keeps to itself otherwise.
>>
>>81207703
Both probably.

I mean you already had people complaining about the double shipping, even professionals like >>81206248
And when the double shipping and 2.99 price was first announced you still had people saying DC was ripping them off. Which I mean if you read nothing but A listers, then maybe that train of thought it more easily defended. But Marvel double ships 3.99 titles ALL THE TIME, Deadpool and Hickman's Avengers being the most prominent, and people just go with it.
But 6 dollars for 40 pages is still better than 8 dollars for 40 pages and 4 dollars for 32 pages.
>>
>>81208059
>But Marvel double ships 3.99 titles ALL THE TIME
reminder that they also had a 3.99 weekly book and never stated how many issues it was going to run
>>
>>81208059
>>81208114

The kicker being Marvel defends raising the prices up on all their 2.99 books and current 3.99 books by being so generous by giving you a free digital version.
>>
I can't believe they're using that horrible logo.

Don't they have any designers?
>>
>>81208059
it's just a case of DC can't win no matter what they do

but they've finally seemed to say fuck it and shift priorities away from the floppy market
>>
>>81208301
>by being so generous by giving you a free digital version
I could have sworn that I read somewhere that something like only 1-2% of those (or some other absurdly low number) are ever redeemed but now I can't find it
>>
>>81203666
THANK YOU SATAN
>>
>>81208365
yeah. your average consumer just buys one version over the other and doesn't care about the other.

Your direct market consumer just wants long boxes of floppies to stash away so his kids or grandkids have something fun to sort through after he dies and doesn't give a shit about digital. Your trendy consumer wants digital because long boxes take up too much space to store and it's easier to manage a 100 plus issue library.

There's probably a few people who might redeem them for flights, but how many people, especially comic buyers, travel so often that they need to redeem their monthly comics to stay up to date on business trips.
>>
>>81208674
now I'm just picturing a corporate bigwig taking his lunch to go pick up a fat stack of comics and reading them for the rest of the day
>>
>>81202327
>>81201854
Goddamnit he's totally going to retcon Azz's stuff even though it won't make any sense, won't he?
>>
>>81208059
>But Marvel double ships 3.99 titles ALL THE TIME
Also, not only this, but they do it while having 60+ MU titles and like 70-80 titles total.

At least DC has been kind enough to hold off on titles, keeping it at 32 unique DC books/49 total plus Hanna Barbera and Vertigo books bringing it up to ~60 total.
Them waiting until fall for more ensures that people will have tried out titles and cut ones they don't want, leaving room for more titles to experiment. And it would be laughable to assume that they aren't going to make some bimonthly books into monthly books after an arc or two.
>>

http://ruckawriter.tumblr.com/post/141734737228/explication-and-elaboration

tl;dr maybe
>>
>>81209032
and out of all those titles they don't even have the decency to announce when a cult favorite is canceled because of low sales. You have to keep an eye on solicits or ask why your comic book guy isn't ordering it anymore to find out its never going to finish that story you were enjoying.

It's Superboy Prime for sure
>>
>>81209914
That IS Pre-52 Superman, solicits confirmed it.

The problem is that the AC #1 Supes looks way younger than Superman #1 Supes. So either Janin fucked up, or they are two different people.
>>
>>81209914

I don't know if it was rumor or announced but I recall hearing that Action was Pa Supes and Superman was Nu Supes.

But the covers and solicits make it sound like Pa Supes is going to be superman fulltime and Nu Supes is going to be Clark Kent fulltime.

Also conveniently helps them solve the whole Lois Lane reveal to the world.

>"Lol how can I, clark kent, be superman when he's standing right here? That whole thing was just some silly mix up!"
>>
>>81210137
well he did shave the beard. if Supes ages slower than humans he wouldn't look much older than new 52 Supes anyway

>>
>>81210258

geez, who is who on this pic? Penelope is probably the femme fatale, and the pimpin dude in the middle has to be Dick Dastardly. No idea why Muttley has to use a steel exoskeleton though.

The bear and the dude drinking has to be the Arkansas Chuggabug with Luke and Blubber Bear.

Top left guy is Red Max, he is standing on his plane. And that makes the guy on Dastardlys other side Peter Perfect.

cannibals on the bottom left would have to be the Slag Brothers.

The tank cannon is obviously the army surplus special, but the guys standing on it look more like the two guys from the Creepy Coupe. The army dudes instead might be the dude and the chick on the right.

The crazy prof in the top middle, covered by the logo, is Professor Pat Pending.

The two blues brothers between Peter Perfect and Dick Dastardly would probably be the Anthill Mob.

That leaves the bottom right two to be Rufus Roofcut and Sawtooth.

Now I'm working on a newer and more detailed DC checklist.

wow that had a quick turnaround

will someone stop this type of coloring

The colorist is Andrew Dalhouse.
>>
>>81221642

>Elseworlds TP

sounds neat
>>
>>81204518
One month after the last issue included is released? That's a pretty fast trade turnaround, no?
>>
>>81222211
DC definitely seems to be speeding up trade turnaround as part of whatever plan they have to shift focus to bookstore trade sales
>>
>>81206682
>better than Johns' GL and Sinestro
No.
>>
>>81216428
It's being teased. Halo is going by her alternate identity and hasn't shown any powers yet, and Geo-Force is just plain old Prince Brion Markov, but Dr. Jace is a main character in the series so I hope with the last 3 issues we'll get some new (old) characters!

I'm desperate for some fucking Outsiders! It was the only DC book growing up that I actively looked for that wasn't Lobo. Everything else was either quarter bin purchases and random finds.

I see that requirements to be a green lantern keep changing over the years.
>pilot - architect - comic book artist - people that need psychiatric help

I'm disappointed about the double shipping. When Marvel started this I tired it out for about 4 months and then dropped everything that double shipped.

I couldn't get into the rotating art teams and overall feeling of rushed content slapped together just to bump up their quarterly earnings. Not to mention my Marvel pull-list doubled in cost which meant I now had less room in my comics budget to try out new books.

Maybe I'm just an oldfag but I like my comics Monthly. I am looking forward to Trinity, Batman Beyond, and maybe Super Sons.
>>
>>81223056
Muh willpower doesn't care what job you have.
>>
>>81201127
That art!
>>
>>81223249
except big titles like action comics, superman, batman I see a lot of them reverting to monthly after a year
>>
>>81223249
Some writers are getting around this by having the Odd and Even titles follow different story arcs. Personally, I think it's much better for the Superman Books this way, they've always been plagued with crossovers (Even before the New 52 mind you) so you had to buy a fuckton of books. At least now you only have to buy one book so the writing will be more consistent. Besides, Marvel Books are $4, DC Books are $3.
>>
>>81223056
>people that need psychiatric help
To be fair that applies to all of them
>>
>>81201153
>tfw there's a good chance Dan Jurgens is going to be the writer of Action Comics #1000
>>
>>81201854
>azz run out the window

dropped, from orbit, it's the only way to be sure
>>
>>81224350
doubt it, chances are they bring a slew of all star writers for #1000. Even so, I don't think Jurgens can last another 40+ Issues in him
>>
>>81202109
This was resolicited
>>
>>81203303
It wasn't that bad. I actually enjoyed reading Taylor putting the corps through crazy shit
>>
>>81224350
A good chance? He's pretty much confirmed.
>>
>>81224660
JL #51 is the one that is actually resolicited; the JL #52 solicitation was updated with Abnett instead of Dogfucker on the pen and a different story and cover. See >>81212952
>>
>>81201323
>Rise of the Dudes wearing the Arkham Knight armor
Ok.
>>
This looks like such a mess. I wish DC would just sack-up and do a hard reboot of their entire line, not just bits and pieces of it here and there.
>>
>>81201263
>>81201296
So, they're both doing Batman imitator storylines?
>>
>>81224937
Why the fuck would you want that?
>>
>>81224984
haha shite book..
>>
>>81201923
I'm getting Battleworld Ghost Riders vibes from this. Kinda hype.
>>
>>81201052

Is that really the synopsis for the comic?

"Do not let a friend or message board ruin this comic for you"

I guess the internet really does affect DC sales.
>>
>>81225619
>implying DC does not want to let leaks happen now
>>
>>81224937
This isn't Marvel. Nobody wants that.
>>
>>81225619
They don't care if people get spoiled. They just want to hype it up by saying it's so big you don't want to be spoiled.

It's literally marketing 101.
>>
>>81225643
They want people to know it's Wally.

That way everybody will want to buy that 2.99 book
>>
>>81201981
GODDAMN YOUR DARK SOUL IF YOU FUCK UP THE HERCULOIDS, DC.
I WILL BASH THE SHIT OUT OF YOU
FUCKERS
>>
Guys.
let me see if i got it right.
Now every dc title is a stand alone universe and no commitment to any shared time line exists, just like in the 70's.
is that correct?
the end of all continuity?
>>
>>81221727
Yes good
>>
>>81224853
They're all Jason Todd
>>
>>81225873
No

DCYou was that.

If anything this is going to result in tighter continuity.
>>
>>81203030
So...Constantine is gonna hit on Dick y/y?
>>
>>81225904
>he and Harley compliment Dick's good looks
>>
>>81203219
Not terrible, just kind of mediocre
>>
>>81225897
please explain. this shit is fucking up my brain
>>
>>81225897
>If anything this is going to result in tighter continuity.
Seems very likely

Bryan Hitch said on Twitter that Jessica and Baz are replacing Hal on the JL since he'll be busy in his own book, they ignored stuff like that didn't DCYOU (and for a while before it even)
>>
>>81225946
I'm not really sure what you're not getting

Every book is part of the DCU and they are going to start reinforcing stricter continuity
>>
>>81201950
>scrappy do is the villain
I'm not sure what I expected
>>
>>81201296
>>81201323
With Batwoman, Spoiler, & Cassie in this, I wanna support. But FUCK it has Eddy Barrow & double shipping; not a big fan of either.
>>
>>81225964
but there is no way you can have five superman comics per month and keep a god damn continuity when he also have to be on JL and some times, batman too
so all that talk of rebirth is merely setting all continuity together?
did Loeb had something to do with that?
Luthor is the new superman and the new darkseid and he is evil again?
the multiverse ended and was recreated againg? do we even have more than one universe now?
is batgirl still the unlikable hipster?
no one shot her spine?
Maps is dead?

Yes, but he's slow.
Even if the artists change every arc, he'll find it difficult to keep up.
