Man, that CGI did not age well. The Phantom Menace holds up the most by the simple virtue of being the less CGI-ladden of them.
Also, despite the atrocious dialogue, I'd say Revenge of the Sith is the best of the three. Based Sheev going full ham makes it at least 80% more enjoyable than the others.

Return Of The Jedi is genuinely terrible - and nobody remembers the actual story, which involves a series of misunderstandings where Luke thinks Leia died in a motorcycle accident when she actually didn't die. Then Han thinks Luke and Leia are in love, but Leia can't tell him the truth for some reason because Luke is actually fighting Darth Vader, blah blah.
It's totally botched when compared to the equivalent bit in Revenge Of The Sith where Anakin thinks Padme is having an affair with Obiwan.
What this indicates is that a proper version of Episode 6 would feature a large-scale fight scene between Luke and HAN.

So I returned Aftermath to the library because I wasn't really digging it and picked up this instead, at the recommendation of someone in the general. Romance stuff isn't really my thing, but it's interesting to know how the people who lived in the Empire thought of it and the Emperor. Plus, the writing style isn't garbage like Aftermath. I'm not done yet but it seems like a good read so far.
It's also making me feel sorta guilty about all the Imperial Officers I've mercilessly cut down in all the video games. Some of them were just decent people who didn't know any better.
