Pretty sure they got the last mini in lieu of a cancellation. So it is a bit abrupt.
As much as I enjoyed this series while it was being released, I feel like they should have gone further into the future than just 100 or so years.
It would have been great to see them balance out the tales of the Jedi series with a series that took place an equal amount of years after the movies.
But one thing I really loved about Legacy was how it tried to tie together so many elements of the prequels, the originals and disparate and even forgotten parts of the EU cause I remember when I was younger feeling like different parts of the EU weren't well connected with one another and had very different tones, themes and styles to them that it was tough to imagine them as part of the same universe (some of the blame is on the stylistic choices of Lucas for the prequel movies and his edits to the Originals). For all its flaws, Legacy really is a decent send off for the "Legends" Timeline chronologically, just in how it brings together elements of the Prequels, clone wars material, Tales of the Jedi/KOTOR, and the Original Trilogy and post-ROTJ/early 90's junk, Marvel and Dark Horse comics, etc. and makes them culminate in one last great adventure.
At least that's the way I feel about it.

I don't mind the idea of a new timeline at all, really, I don't. At some point during CG Clone Wars run, with all the disregard for canon or complete retcons the series was notorious for, I just suggested that they should make a new set of timelines or something. Sure, enough they did create a new timeline, but I was displeased with the circumstances. I found it offensive that Disney so quickly and easily scrapped the main EU so they could make another movie to get the cash back on their investment. It was a really low blow to the fans of the EU who had stuck with it for so long. And the fact that Abrams' movie gets called "Episode VII" was also insulted as it implies the two timelines ARE NOT equally valid as far as Disney is concerned. It would have been more respectful to just remake the prequels or heck remake the original Star Wars since Abrams already proved he could do a pretty good job with rebooting Star Trek. But I also have doubts Abrams will reference anything EU related with the same respect he tried to show for the original Star Trek with the whole alternate timeline Spock time travel stuff and I doubt Disney would let him do too much of that even if he wanted to.
The whole plot of TFA just feels a bit shallow so far, with more focus on a bunch of OC stuff concocted by Abrams topped off with a bunch OT "rhymes" that might have been better suited again for a reboot or Abrams' own Star Wars inspired film.
It's annoying for me cause otherwise I might have been interested in SWVII and a new timeline with all sorts of familiar stuff and surprise references, but the circumstances in which it was green-lit and promoted left me jaded that I didn't even want to go to an early premiere just out of spite.

More seriously though, I was kind of hoping the galaxy would finally discover that constitutional monarchies exist and we got a Galactic Empire with Empress Fel presiding over a democratic Galactic Parliament or Senate. Would have been something original rather than returning to an obviously unstable status quo.

The point is that none of the leaders of the Triumvirate is a democratically elected representative of the people. Empress Fel is obvious, Stazi is the self appointed military dictator of a remnant of the GA military and K'krukh is a member of a monastic order that isn't even part of the government.
