Wow 93%! You guys sure are generous! Hope you guys have nothing but good things in your futures.

What's everyone's favorite christmas movie? I'm always curious.

Gremlins is probably my favorite. They show it at one of the old theatres here every year at midnight and its always fantastic.

Though I just saw Krampus recently and I fucking loved that.

Anyway, here's my list: 2RGPTCSTRDOLJ

At what point is it acceptable for those of us who have been gifting to post our lists a second time?

PS - UK Anons, I get paid on Friday. Expect more gifting to occur

We also have more submitted wishlists then the last 3 years, even ignoring the address-less
>>
>>78160100

well, if you've been gifted, try not to so that everyone gets a gift.
>>
>>78160142
I wonder how many are getting gifted but not gifting...

I bet a lot of people gift after they are gifted.
>>
>>78160218
I could quite happily go for that right now.
>>
>>78160246
It's a pretty easy recipe, actually. Just cut up an onion, half a turnip, an apple and some carrot really fine, and cook it down with some curry powder, then simmer in chicken stock (covered) for about 45 minutes. Add the chicken and cilantro when it's done cooking, lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, then serve the whole shebang over rice.

I make it a lot in the winter.

woops, I read your post as a concern someone brough up a few days back, saying people will post saying they bought something for someone but nothing was purchased.

To read your question correctly, lots. Sadly we get a bunch of people that show up and post their wishlist once and not return. But we've got some gifting powerhouses like SDU, Riddler, Tajador, Scribs, Piano Anon, and Santaseid that gift bunches.

Random story, I used to live in Northampton, England, when I was younger. There was a shop on the high street called the Black Rose, which was full of crazy occult stuff, a goth hangout and that. Anywho, I was in there with someone and this crazy old bearded bastard is in there going on about stuff. My mate goes "that's Alan Moore" and I said "looks like some crazy homeless bastard going on like that". I didn't know who Alan actually was back then.

And that's the story of how I thought Alan was one of the homeless.

I know how you feel.
My aunt's tree looks exactly like yours, so it reminds me of spending Christmas eve at her house. The randomly decorated trees are a lot of fun.
My parents usually have tree that is random, its the same randomness every year with a few new ornaments here and there.

My girlfriend's family's tree on the other hand is crazy. It gets completely covered with random ornaments, but they're artists so they're all a little crazy.

Really?
Which part?

I thought the Dunwich Horror one was well done, and the Thing on the Doorstep one was actually part of the plot and marked the midway point for Black's character arc.

I'd agree if they were worthless like in schlock like Neonomicon - but it's doing way more because it means something. It fits and is suitably horrific. Unlike boring and laughable as in the previous.

Here's a bonus cat (and half of the dog) under the tree.
>>
>>78161768
Oh, I didn't mind that because Black's entire character has been circling about his struggles with his sexuality.
He's a straight laced man living a lie and that's the entire reason he is on this journey of discovery.
Coupled with the fact that he's come face to face with the occult several times and goes out of his way to ignore the signs...that scene was astoundingly effective in ways that it wouldn't have been had those aspects not been set up before hand.

And the pedo bit is the twist ain't it? It's the soul of a 400 year old sorceror and a 30 year old man.

Plus...the art was on point as usual.

Phineas and Ferb's Christmas Vacation starting soon
>>
Well, it seems like the people have spoken, and they have spoken in favor of 15HW85CCM5JNM. So she is the winner of the Song Contest! Yaaay.

And that... might be it for contests for me, this year. My Christmas budget is dwindling, and from here on it seems the best use for what's left is to help get that ungifted list down to 0. Can we do it this year? I think we can. But on the flipside, only two Tajador Christmas Contests doesn't seem like much of a Christmas at all (and I still have my pet questions from the past years that I didn't pull out yet), though I'm glad other people have stepped up with contests of their own. I always think (or hope, at least) they make the threads a little more fun and bring some Christmas magic.

Thanks for participating, this year and in previous years as well. And I suppose, despite my focus on helping the ungifteds, I'll be selfish and post my list one last time... 3RNEI9917FCUK

Stoppit, you're going to turn this into /toy/'s secret santa threads with this kind of shit. As long as it's once a thread and isn't begging there's nothing wrong with putting up your wishlist. People are prioritizing the ungifted list anyway and nobody is obligating anyone else to buy people more stuff.
>>
I dont think i ever made it on the list, this is my first year doing this though. If i want to buy something for someone i just add it to my cart when im looking on their list right?

The whole system has operated on voluntary gifting from the start, why wouldn't it be okay? Obviously people who haven't received anything yet should be a priority unless they're putting ridiculous items on their lists, but I've had no issue sending stuff out to people who already received gifts. There was a guy last week who had The Incal on his list, he already received something but I'm a huge fan of The Incal and had a barely-touched redundant copy of it in my shelves so I voluntarily sent it to him. I didn't feel like I *had* to, I just wanted to. What's the big deal?
>>
>>78162476
You can always record anyway. We'll all listen.
>>
>>78162457
I completely agree.
I think it should only be used when it has meaning - and I feel that it did.
Even in a larger context you have the connotation that in the original story, that there was rape (by deception) in The Thing on the Doorstep in the first place.

If this were just something to shock, then yeah, but this has consequences, weight, and real build-up in terms of mood and tension.

Oh hey, no problem.
Overall I think that mixing sexuality and Lovecraft overtly is a horrible idea.
It's all about subtext, and making it text adds nothing.
But with Providence, it adds new subtext to take it's place without going full retard on it.

And hey, everyone's got different tastes

What's up, /co/mrades? Do anything interesting today? I assembled a new bookcase and have been attempting to whittle down the remaining stuff to be unpacked.

I'm also just now aware that Krampus is supposed to be out in theaters but 1) I have kids and don't know anyone here well enough to have them babysit and 2) none of the local theaters are playing it currently anyway. I'm sad that I'm probably going to be waiting a while to see a movie I've been looking forward to since its announcement.

>>
>>78167036
Okay, this is how I do soup.

Everything always starts with 1) some kind of fat in the pan 2) chopped vegetables. So a good thing to do is to get a pack of 'bacon ends', cut them up into discrete chunks and freeze them on a cookie sheet and then put them in a plastic bag, and then pull them out when you want soup. Take a dutch oven/large pot, start bacon. Add chopped onion, carrot, celery, and some garlic paste; if you have a small herb garden, sage and thyme do wonders. Then add broth or stock, rice or barley, and meat either leftover or chunk chicken from a can.
>>
>>78167305
>So a good thing to do is to get a pack of 'bacon ends', cut them up into discrete chunks and freeze them on a cookie sheet and then put them in a plastic bag, and then pull them out when you want soup.

I usually just use butter to cook down the veggies in first.

If I'm feeling really adventurous, I throw in a ham hock with the soup too (works wonders for beans) but if you're trying to stay away from salt, the smoked, cured ham bones they use for that usually are pretty damn salty too.
>>
>>78167305
Bean soups I start the stuff in the pan, cook the dried beans in the pressure cooker (worth every penny to have one), and then add them in and give it a long simmer. A stick blender does wonders for making a good bean soup.

Butter is fine too, any kind of fat works, I just really like using the utility bacon that way, especially because it's cheap and it can be the only meat in a soup.

Ham hock + those dark green French lentils=heavenly

If you're cheap like me, learning how to make your own stock out of a rotisserie chicken or leftover thanksgiving turkey bones is a great bonus, too.

Haven't seen bones in years. One bad evening saw Ghost Rider 2 the best of the worst, it was a rough night.

>>78167630
What are you on about Anon?
>>78167656
Someone should storytime Klaus if nobody has done that yet, who doesn't like the sound of All Star Santa?
>>
>>78167588
Do you have a crockpot? If not, get one, you can get a perfectly fine one for $30 or less easy. Then all you do is put the bones in with water, maybe some carrot ends and onion, sage, whatever overnight. Put it in the fridge in the morning until it solidifies and then skim the fat off it, freeze it or use it soon. It's a zillion times better than any boxed stock with a lot less salt.

Bones is amazing in it's audacity.

I need to get my sister's boyfriend a present for our gift exchange and wanted to get him a comic, but could use some help deciding which one.
I was thinking of getting him either something Moebius or maybe Metabarons.
He was really into the Alan Moore Swamp Thing books, so I figured he'd like those kind of cool/weird European books.
Any specific recommendations, I'm not too well versed in those books?
>>
>>78167834
Metabarons is fucking awesome.

>>78167815
I don't think many people have on the west.
Probably should change when that movie comes out.
>>
>>78167713
I think someone did Klaus a few days ago, but I can do it tomorrow.
>>
>>78167738

I've got a ceramic-coated dutch oven, but not an electric crockpot. I'd like to get one though, I'm nervous about leaving my oven on while I'm out if I'm cooking something while I'm away.
>>
>>78167834
Well I can't talk since I haven't read his Swamp Thing yet (because I don't own the books yet, if you want to change that you know what to do) but what about that series attracted him? Because based on rep alone, I'd suggest the Ennis run on Etrigan.
>>
>>78167924
I get that same feeling, but I'll use it if I know I'm gonna be home all day.
>>
>>78167924
Be SURE to get one with the removable ceramic insert, it makes cleaning up so much easier. I don't even know if they make them not that way any more. Crock pot is so easy to fill in the morning, go to work, come home to dinner mostly ready, freeze the leftovers.

My sister has an InstaPot, which is pretty amazing, but pricier--but it can do everything in one unit, saute/slow-cook/pressure-cook.
>>
>>78167852
>Metabarons is fucking awesome.
So it seems.
>>78167968
>Ennis run on Etrigan
He's a bit of a capefag, so I was hoping to get him away from Marvel/DC, but I'll keep this one in mind.

>>78168066
It's a whacked out version of Dune, but with a great core.
>>
>>78168067
OH YOU SWEET SUMMER CHILD yes it is

The Alan Grant run before it is also really fun, storytimed it not that long ago
>>
>>78168067
The book is actually called "The Demon", but yeah, it exists. Shit, there's another trade coming out on the 29th on Amazon.

I'm just as surprised as you, given what modern Ennis is like, in terms of how much he likes capes.
>>
>>78168138

I died laughing when Ennis pimps it out even in his All-Star Section Eight series.
>>
>>78167834
I would consider The Incal nothing less than essential for anyone interested in sci-fi
>>
>>78168209

I fucking loved Kirby's The Demon (nearly shit myself when I found that HC). I also have the Wagner trade somewhere. Always loved Etrigan's design. Why I had to draw then for the drawthread earlier this year.
>>
>>78167834
Also Enki Bilal is another great 'entry' option if you're looking for weird surreal european comics.

Should've ended it with the boy all alone in the blizzard to 1.confirm the Krampus is real 2.tie it nicely with Omi's story, real german/austrian stories are dark. Then I was okay with them dropping the girl in the lava if they wanted to end it like that. But they had to go the obvious safe PG-13 route. Didn't even understand the snow globe cave but I guess I liked it keeping in mind he's Santa's "shadow." The movie was overall creepy and funny but underwhelming.

But that Krampus drawing is amazing. Good work again POFG

>>78171437
Sometimes I feel like Australia is a social experiment where the rest of the world tests how angry you get waiting for something and sees the reaction. The result being the formation of the Cuntus Strayas creatures we often find roaming around the contination. The Cuntus are known for their seemingly inhuman consumption of warm piss (also known as fosters) and they love hats with decorations. Often referring to them as the Hat's Pajamas. Many biologists fear studying the Cuntus due to their natural habitat being packed full of clear indications that they are not supposed to live there. The Cuntus cares not, however, and will fight anyone who makes the mistake of stumbling upon his homestead.
>>
>>78171340
Nice
>>78171437
Hate when that happens, had to beg Universal to even release Edgar Wright's the world's end and when they finally did it way late it was already out on bluray in the UK they showed it in a ridiculous small amount of theatres. These companies are somehow still surprised when people pirate.
>>
>>78171515
>will fight anyone who makes the mistake of stumbling upon his homestead.

That actually isn't part of the experiment. Australia is just a shithole filled with the deadliest animals on the planet, and that became a defense mechanism to prevent getting mauled to death by dingos or shit.

>>78171437
>>78171561

>How dare you steal our movie?!
Well show it before the BD comes out or for less than $15 a fucking person. I'd go to more movies if they were cheaper. We got a theater on Main Street that has $7.50 tickets but it looks like shit and 2 of the 6 theaters have only 12 foot screens. Makes it hard to enjoy.

>>78171561
I cant remember the movies but we've had some that didn't show in cinemas for 1 year+. There's a reason we seem to be the pirate capital of the world. And not because we were once actual pirates.
