That could work (and it might be Ozpin's Semblance and part of the reason he's so wise). I think it's better than my idea: Nullification of other people's semblances, so if they were to go up against Pyrrha she wouldn't be able to mess with their weapons as long as they're touching them, or preventing Weiss from using her Glyphs if the user in question was touching her. This power would mean that they would see right through the illusion.

I think the series' finale will be team RWBY using their maiden powers to save the world from an uber Grimm, and then end on an "And the adventure continues" sort of thing. I hate to say this, but Monty probably had the series events and setting and the characters' backgrounds outlined and left the nitty gritty of the writing (dialogue, what events actually lead up to the key plot points Monty had in mind) to M&K. I have a feeling his outline would have ended there, or somewhere similar to there. If they wanted to continue the series beyond that point, they'd need to use an all new cast of heroes and villains years in the future or something.
So what are the odds that the old man can be revived as well?

Yeah, the reason why we remember characters like classic Maleficent is because they're just hammy and evil for the sake of evil.
I however want something in the middle: A genuinely tragic villain who didn't become evil because they were tortured or abandoned or something, but instead one who genuinely tried as hard as possible to do the right thing, but circumstances wound up fucking him over, and his only options were all awful ones, so in trying to always choose the lesser of two evils he's forced to become the bad guy.

I wonder how different the other timelines have been. I imagine in the first few timelines, Cinder scorches Ruby before she can do much of anything. Eventually, Ozpin realizes her significance, so he sends Glynda to the robbery with the explanation that he has a hunch. Maybe, Neo murdered Yang in one timeline, so he sets it up so Raven shows up just in time. Every loop, he makes a bit of progress in solving this puzzle but it's not enough. So he keeps having to go back and figure out where he went wrong so he can fix it.

I totally think that Cinder is going to end up doing something that will just break Jaune somehow, which can be anything from kidnapping to torture to hurting Pyrrha to turning the student body against him, or any combination, in order to reflect the fact that Joan of Arc died by being burnt at the stake. This will make Jaune lose hope and/or give up on life, so the Maidens (definitely at least partly comprised of members of Team RWBY) embark on a journey to save him, and at the last moment he helps them unlock their true powers as maidens and save the world, reflecting how the four maidens made the old man happy and received immense power as a gift of gratitude.
