Winding down on the Christmas contest. Finish up those stories soon, or just let me know if you need a little more time. Closing at 2:00 eastern/30 minutes from now.
How cold does it get in your neck of the woods, /co/? Around here, winter can dip down to -60C/-76F, but that'll hopefully be avoided this year.
On a side note, reposting my list: 3H7IYBFP34A8A
Wallace and Gromit!
>>77978404
Where I grew up it gets regularly down into the single digits in late December and January, but I just moved out closer to the coast and I think so far it's only gotten below freezing like twice overnight. A lot milder out here and it's disconcerting to be able to walk around outside and have it be in the mid-50s in December.
>>77978392
Other anon who posted in the last thread here, I just emailed you so I'm all set
Okay, I finally got an address to go with my wish list. Haven't been gifted yet, so if anyone just wants to get me whatever from my list, it's cool. 297MIGOM4JLT0
So, /co/, tell me, what's your favorite part about Christmas?
>>77978305
>Wallace and Grommet image
Aw yiss
>>77978495
It's a holiday during the comfiest season of the year, people are generally nicer, winter dishes are great.
If you're talking about christmas day in particular, it's gotta be the christmas dinner.

Central Alberta, Canada. There's nothing between us and the North Pole, and we're far from any large bodies of water which could moderate our temperature.
>How the fuck do you even cope?
We wait for our +45C/+113F summers, and try not to go outside if it's below -30. Aside from wearing more layers and being careful while breathing (cold air in lungs hurts like you wouldn't believe; cold air freezing the moisture in your nose, moreso), life goes on.

I hear ya man, I lived in Morgantown for six years and only saw them cancel classes twice, and that was when we got literally two feet of snow dumped overnight. PRT system broke down , buses out of service, ice on the sidewalks and below freezing temperatures? Fuck you, you still have to show up to take your final!

>>77979345
Nah, I was gonna write it today since I had classes and a funeral last week. Not a big deal. I'll probably still write it and just post it whenever I'm done with it.
Thanks SDU! This was just delivered a few minutes ago.

I have that trade, it's fucking great and I wish Tradd Moore stayed on the book, or that the very least that Felipe Smith took over both art and writing duties right after he left. The guy they brought in after the first six issues just had a really weird style that cut a lot of people's interest in following it and sales took a huge hit.
Merry Christmas to all of /co/

Yeah when making a thread I try to keep the threads image varied, last year was a bit of a Big two tug of war.
>>77979167
>Dad had now come over with a trio of hot chocolates, having got the tree up about five minutes prior. As per usual, the mix was deliciously thick and he'd even added a dash of orange to it, before topping it with marshmallows, whipped cream and cinnamon.
>Orange
>In hot chocolate
I'm intrigued. Is that a thing? Goddamn some hot chocolate sounds good right now.
>>77979697
It'd not just the covers. The interiors for the first arc are all rad.
>>77979797
Yeah that's what I meant, Moore did the interior art as well.
>>77979521
Exactly what I got last year from a kind anonwho I'd like to return the favor to but as of yet I'm still the only .de user, that Moore art is something else. Perfect portrayal of speed in comic form, very vivid lines and has a animatic feel.
>>77979786
Chocolate and orange is a pretty common holiday flavor combination.
Citrus fruits in winter used to be something reserved if you were SUPER rich, before it became easier to ship produce across the country and grow it in hothouses. Nowadays, fundraisers or gifts involving fruit baskets are still common out of tradition even if you can just get oranges at the supermarket at any time of the year.
>>77979893
Isn't that page not by Moore?
>>77979979
Yeah that's the artist who took over after Moore left. Tradd Moore has a very exaggerated sort of graffiti style, but he has a very good grasp on how to draw the eye across a page and allow that art to read well at a glance. Daimon Scott didn't really have that second part down.
>>77979786
Have you ever had a chocolate orange? We always get one as a stocking stuffer and it's probably my favorite thing in there.
>>77979167
>"Mr. Jameson this is not really the best ti-"

Is there a joke I'm missing or is that supposed to say Spider-Man?
While I've had chocolate oranges, as well as other chocolate covered fruit, I've never heard of oranges with hot chocolate.
>>77980087
DC Comics characters exist in fiction in the Marvel universe. They make Batman jokes on occasion.
>>77980064
Yes. They're wonderful. I've just never heard of orange in hot chocolate before, but it sounds delightful. I might have to try it soon though.
>>77980128
I know, but I thought maybe whoever wrote it meant to write Spider-Man but wrote Superman instead.I've done it myself a couple of times.
>>77979979
I had my doubts about it when that turned up on google images after looking up Tradd Moore + Ghost Rider.
>>77980022
Guess he tried to emulate him for that page because what I read after Moore left was kinda so-so artwise.

Italy anon, if you're on, I have a trade offer for you
>>77978404
I need to move further north, because here in southern New England, it doesn't really start getting cold until like, the end of December. And we're lucky to see snow before January.
That is, snow more than half an inch. Sure we might get a few flurries in mid-December, but it's a rare occurrence to get anything big before Christmas.
>tfw you haven't had a "white christmas" in over 10 years
As for temperatures, it rarely goes below 15 degrees. Even in January/February, it's in the high 30s / low 40s during the day, and into the low 20s at night. We have pretty mild summers, and pretty mild winters.
>>77981738
Who is this John Allison and why have I never read anything of his? Loving this so far.
>tfw live in South Texas
>coldest it ever gets is 40~F
We've had snow once in recorded history here back on '04. It was like 6 inches and melted by noon. But it was there Christmas morning and was some of the most fun I've ever had.
>>77982098

>>77982098
He does those webcomics Scary Go Round and Bad Machinery. He also has a comic that's published by Boom! called Giant Days that's been fantastic
>>77982138
Same. In the last 7-8 years, all the snow has started to come in February. There's no way it will get cold enough by christmas
>>77982138
This is the picture I share whenever people are all "What's Texas winter like?"
>>77981411
Yeah the art alone is enough to keep me interested in this book, and Morrison is my favorite, so that's saying something.
>>77982183
Varg?
Well usually I get a nice snowing where I'm at (when I was in college we had a once in a lifetime snowfall that basically blocked us all in), but out in the PNW it's strange how warm it is here.
>>77982138
I grew up in West Virginia and my brother moved down to southern Alabama for a job a couple years ago. Sure enough, the first year he was down there they got snow and an ice storm that threw the state into basically a state of emergency for two days because they didn't have snowplows or salt for the roads. Pretty funny for us who are used to regularly getting feet of snow, salting driveways, and keeping a snow shovel in the trunk of your car just in case.
Winters up in the mountains aren't usually terribly cold, but they are pretty damn wet.
>>77982234
I think I mentioned this to you once, but I have family down in Lubbock and it's pretty funny to hear them talk about the weather
>yeah so we had a foot of snow overnight
>and then it melted by noon and now it's 60 degrees outside
>oh now we have a hailstorm
sorry posting is taking so long something is up with my internet
>>77982359
Here in the middle we get less of the really cold and crazy shit because no altitude, but the ice reliably shuts everything down at least a few times a year, because no one wants to drive on elevated ramps with ice. Wait, no, some idiots always do, and then they get stranded and the news is all "DON'T DO THIS, MMMKAY?"
>>77979167

I don't know if they're a thing in the US, but Terry's Chocolate Oranges are the absolute bomb, moreover, making a hot chocolate with them is utterly heavenly.
I tried to convey the idea of chocolate+orange in case the chocolate orange wasn't a thing but I didn't realise that the combination itself might not be familiar with US readers.
>>77982553
They are a seasonal thing available in the US (and I usually get one in my stocking), but I don't think they're quite as prevalent as in the UK.

seek one out, or at least find some of the packs of individual segments, then get yourself some hot chocolate mix.
go home, finely grate approximately two to three whole segments (5-6 mini segments) and put a generous helping of the chocolate mix in. Don't bother with water at all, just put whole milk in the mix and either mix it in a milk frother or over a hob and enjoy. add a little mint if you want to get adventurous.

Most of the kids at work read the fuck out of Tintin, Amulet, Drama, Smile and a few others. Bone is pretty popular as well. It's nice to see kids enjoy comics.
Some are slowly transitioning into Marvel and DC but less so due to how expensive they can be.

>>77983816
Mangas are much easier for them to get. The library at my job only carries a small handful of Marvel books (paperback masterpieces that are shredded to shit), no DC, but plenty of Scholastic and manga like Detective Conan. One third grader did walk in with the original Secret Wars trade last week. Made me realize I still need that myself.
>>77984057
Poor kid. Secret Wars 2 is where it's at.
>>77984057
It is really hard. At my old job my boss let me buy a pretty substantial amount of comics for the library. Both manga and comics had their problems: Manga is easy to select top series, but you're basically on the hook for a ton of volumes for most series. Comics can be harder to pick out, but you can get really great standalones.

Plus you have to make sure it's okay for kids to read, all that bullshit. I grew up with Maximum Carnage but I know we could never have that story in the library at work.
