Two things.
First, assuming the year is roughly ~2000AD, the arrival of gems was actually after some cultures had decent writing - so not Prehistoric. Gems would have arrived right at the end of the Neolithic, and the Gem War would have stretched into the early Bronze Age.
Second, the year may actually be significantly later than 2000AD. The Gem war pretty badly fucked up the entire planet, and killed a lot of humans.Given that Pearl talks about learning to be a knight from humans during the War, and Greg mentions that humans fought in the War, it could have started as late as the Middle Ages.
If the war (and the things it left behind) were really bad, Humans could have taken a very long time to put civilization back together. So a current date as late as 6500AD isn't completely impossible.

I don't think so. I think the powers come from the gem not from Steven so if he reproduced he's kids wouldn't really have the powers
