Part of an effort to sample different body types in their comics. They made Carol more realistically fit and dressed in more than a swimsuit to emphasize her as a hero first, woman second.
Much like X-23 now looks much more like Logan in stature. Stockier, shorter and less fragile.
They also seem to try to make the costumes more an expression of what the character would be interested in wearing rather than what the artist finds sexy. Outrageous designs seem to get relegated more to gods and aliens, not so much humans.

and since the kid will have spider-powers (we know they are inheritable) he'll get lots of visits from "Uncle Peter", who spoils him rotten and takes him on multidimensional adventures with Gwen and Jessica.
and of course the inevitable plot where the kid gets kidnapped as leverage against Carol, Jessica is badly injured trying to stop the kidnapping, and when Carol finds out where the bad guys are, she loses her shit and blows up an entire city block.

Dexter Soy started it off but obviously his painted stuff takes a while to do and Emma Rios had to finish off the first arc. Andrade then came in for the second arc with his high energy style (which, has to be said, suits Carol and her powers in some ways). Lopez took over for the next volume of Carol In Space! adventures - pretty bland for the most part but he drew some great spaceships.
Still think Caselli drew the best looking Carol in the Avengers Assemble comics - pity we never got more of him drawing her. Anka might look a little bland in terms of design but he's very solid and will stay consistent. Let's pray Rocaforte stays on Ultimates for a long while - because I think/hope his take on Carol will be the one to stick (as much as Ewing's writing will).

So then they gave it to Rios, but she can basically do like two issues a year at most, and KSD ended up getting her to do her shitty western book. Which then brought in Andrade (>>78010967) and I'm guessing KSD liked him making everyone look like they had the downs cause he probably had the most issues in the run.
Then the big crossover story she had planned with Assemble started, so editorial threw the book to Sandoval, who's Joe Mad-esque proportions probably triggered KSD so much she keked Fraction even harder, which is why around this time his Hawkeye started sucking even more than it already had.
