Just have to chime in here that concept for the leg plates is actually pretty cool. They're like an easy slip on-slip off combat boot design that's pretty neat. That said if his personality is showing off his "dapperness" (top hat and nice coat/shoes and all) those open foot holes would let a lot of dirt/mud/snow/grimm blood in and make those fancy shoes all messed up.
