Can't scoff the Moff
>>
>>77599106
You have to remember that this movie was directed by George Lucas AKA the worst filmmaker of all time.
>>
>>77599106
The book "Tarkin" develops their relationship and shows Vader gain a respect for Tarkin to a level where he sees Tarkin almost like an equal.
>>
>>77599106
No, Tarkin has authority over him as Grand Moff of the Outer Rim. Vader has the power to end his life with the Force, yes, and no one's going to try and stop him if he did, but Vader and Tarkin are almost friends, and Tarkin is Sheev's good buddy, so Vader won't be a dick to him. You'll notice in some EU stuff, Vader will exert his authority over some moffs and officers, but other times he'll play by their rules and let them think they're in charge. His authority is more just because he's a scary mofo, not by anything written down officially.
>>
>>77599106
>Isnt he above Tarkin?
Vader and Tarkin are equals and Tarkin is the Commanding Officer in the Death Star, whatever he orders everyone, even Vader, has to obey.

FROM MY POINT OF VIEW THE YOUNGLINGS ARE EVIL
>>
>>77599106
Vader has no real position in the Imperial military.
He just has perks being the Emperor's buttboy.
That's in-universe.

Out of universe is that in an earlier draft, Vader was a general who was demoted to Stormtrooper for some reason. That's why he's in armor. That was a very early draft before Vader was an injured cyborg.
Tarkin's line is a remnant of that draft.
>>
>>77599106
Tarkin and Vader have a mutual respect for one another. In the book "Tarkin", it's explained that Sheev gave Tarkin the rank of Grand Moff, and complete control on the Death Star.

Vader doesn't challenge Tarkin because, as I said, they like and respect each other.

Yup. "Tarkin."

It's canon, and is all about Tarkin.

Protip: Get "Rise of the Empire" instead though.

It's a collection that contains "Tarkin", "A New Dawn", and 3 other Short Stories that connect the books, all for the same price of if you was going to by the "Tarkin" Hardcover on its own.

I'm optimistic for the near future of Star Wars. I think TFA will be too safe and boring plot wise but I don't think it will necessarily be a bad movie. I'm hyped to see the new aliens and all the effects and whatnot. I'm hyped for Episode 8 and 9 though since from Episode 8's casting call they're clearly making a completely original story instead of rehashing ESB.

However after that point I'm not so sure if I can get excited. Disney recently said they will make Star Wars movies every year forever so I fear it will get really old fast and worst case scenario Star Wars will be officially dead in 15 years. Plus they're doing a piss poor job as far as Star Wars games are concerned.

Tarkin was basically Vader's only equal. He was head honcho of the outer rim force, the pursuit of the rebels and was in command of the death star. He has no direct authority over Vader because Vader answers to nobody other than the Emperor. Vader similarly has no authority via chain of command because he's not in the chain of command, but retains obedience through the sheer terror he inflicts on others. It isn't until Empire Strikes Back that he gets command of a Star Destroyer and in Return of the Jedi he kinda takes a back-seat driver position on his Super Star Destroyer, The Executor.

Tarkin, in that moment, didn't want a dead man in the middle of the meeting and he knew Vader had gotten the point across. It isn't yanking the leash, it's calming the beast.

Loosing Tarkin was an equal, if not greater blow to the empire than if Darth Vader had taken his place, with Tarkin surviving, and the Dark Lord dieing. Both were utterly integral to control and the execution of the master plan.

Tarkin rules with his brilliant mind and calculating strategy, Darth Vader rules with his merciless ferocity and bone-chilling terror, but both of them are scary to outsiders, friend and foe alike.

Vader respects that. A lesser man would've ended up being choked right alongside Motti. Plus, Vader can't go ahead and undermine Tarkin's authority in the middle of his own command. Even if he wasn't sorta friends with Tarkin, it's a real dick move to render the commander of the most important mobile space station in the entire empire completely useless by undermining his authority infront of his own men. Gotta keep order in the ranks.

They never said anything about annual movies. There will be annual ones until 2020, but after that, it's unknown. Most likely, it'll start being every other year from that point onwards (and possibly a live-action tv show alongside) and then if Star Wars somehow declines in popularity, which I personally don't think will happen, it has too much cultural relevance and bridges the gap between generations. But if that somehow happened, then maybe they'll start to be released every 3 years or so.

But they're not just going to stop, that's for sure. The Disney marketing machine is going to do whatever they can to keep Star Wars relevant and popular forever.

Personally, the LSG has convinced me that the franchise is in good hands. While I do think they're playing it a little safe right now, I do know that it'll get more interesting as time goes on. We have a lot to look forward to.

This year alone we have been given a plethora of content, and I don't think any of it has been bad so far. Lackluster maybe. Battlefront, and the two recent Rebels episodes come to mind. But certainly not BAD.

As long as they maintain this level of quality as a minimum, I'll be happy. Yes, oversaturation of content is worrying. I'm personally worried about there being 50 books within the next decade to keep up with. But as of right now, I trust in what they're doing.

To be fair, he's right. TFA doesn't really seem as good as most people are hyping it up to be. It just seems like a rehash of Episode 4 where you'll know every plot point before it happens in the movies because you'll be matching it up with the events of Episode 4. It's one of those movies where I like to say the lore is better than the story. What it brings to the table (First Order, Resistance, the new main characters, Jakku, Maz Kanata, etc) are probably going to be really cool, but the story (an old man, a person trying to get off a shit planet, a sassy person, and a cocky pilot join a rebellion to destroy an empire's plane- I mean, star destroying weapon) isn't that great. Also someone using a reaction image doesn't mean they are a fan of the media the reaction image is from.

The Interdictor is one of the best pieces of Star Wars EU out there. Compare that to what's already in the new canon: Imperial's attacking Naboo after the Battle of Endor with weather control satellites and Princess Leia flying around in an old Naboo yellow starfighter to blow them up.

This is literally basic storytelling. Did you actually think ANH had an original plot? It was arguably just as much of a "rehash" as TFA is, but it was executed so incredibly well that no one would ever think about criticising these story beats that were already used in other stories.

Seriously, I think people are just calling TFA a rehash because there is literally nothing else they could criticise about it. Everything looks and sounds amazing, the people that made the movie were obviously very passionate and everyone who has seen the movie calls it better than Empire. This might seem like shilling or mindless gushing or whatever you wanna call it, but keep in mind that at this point we already knew about some of TPM's problems, but we haven't heard a single bad thing about TFA yet. I think the more cynical fans can't accept that they could have been wrong about Disney, Kennedy or Abrams. That Abrams managed to make the sequel we've always wanted to see.

It's painfully predictable this will happen. But we can't let those spunky rebels actually have to deal with real challenges. Even the guy in charge knows that no matter how many ships they have to throw at Imperial blockades, they'll still be fine by next episode. Top tier writing.

>It's the weakest episode of this season so far, but Season 1 was about on par because almost nothing ever fucking happened.
Season 1 was steadily building up and getting more and more dangerous, climaxing with the final 3 episodes where they genuinely felt like they were in danger.

Season 2 has been reversed. Since escaping Vader, the Rebels have been getting WAY too big for their boots.

>It's painfully predictable this will happen.
The trailer showed that the Interdictor does get destroyed, but not before it destroys at least 1 Rebel Cruiser. 1:1 is pretty fine by me. They're not going to kill any of the main cast this early into the season anyway.

>Season 2 has been reversed. Since escaping Vader, the Rebels have been getting WAY too big for their boots.

I've seen the opposite so far. In Season 1 the rebels never took the Empire seriously until the Inquisitor showed up, and even then it was just a Scooby-Doo chase up until the end when Tarkin showed up.

In Season 2 they actually suffer more setbacks and get into deeper shit, like with the blockade and barely getting away from the two new inquisitors. But their escapes and wins are also becoming more egregious in turn; getting away from three AT-ATs because Kallus was being retarded was probably the worst, right up there with the convenient superlaser B-Wing. So it looks like they're doing better overall.

This whole show really does piss me off because the rebels actually getting the shit kicked out of them and getting away by the skin of their teeth would make for a way more engaging series. Most fondly remembered kids series are the ones where the good guys weren't assured victories almost every episode.
>>
>>77601885
Maybe Disney's trying to maximize old Imperial incompetence so that the First Order looks way better in comparison. It's such a fucking cheap and lazy substitute for actual writing and I always hate it.
>>

But that's a shop of Wing's opening...

>>
>>77601864
>The cardboard cutout characters?
Many of the characters do have motivations and are pretty well rounded, except for Zeb. We need to see his past and who he was, to better understand who he is now.

>The unmoving plot?
The plot is progressing, the Rebels have now moved from being mere Imperial agitators to actual Rebel Alliance members.

>The lazy writing?
The writing is subpar at times, but it's enjoyable and nor for us, the show is for children, you have to remember that. Disney also owns it and the S&P for this thing is probably pretty strict. But it needs to start ramping it up though, the writers need to take lessons from Tron Uprising.

>The awful animation?
Disney is being a bunch of cheapskates and not giving them the budgeting it deserves, also Lucas isn't giving them any money out of his own pocket. The animation is pretty good, better than a lot of CGI series out there in the past and present.

There are good kids shows, like Beast Wars and Gargoyles, and bad kids shows, like Fanboy and Chumchum. Rebels is strictly mediocre at the moment when it could be top tier very easily by virtue of being Star Wars. I think that's what bothers people the most.

Ya got anything else to say, other than insults? Now I like having discussions, but being an ass and generally having nothing to say in terms of an actual conversation is what's really turning these threads into shit lately.

But I'll talk, the animation in Rebels is pretty damn good, it has empty sets and at times reuses animations such as walking sequences and when the ships enter hyperspace, but there is a reason for that, it has a smaller budget. Rebels doesn't have Lucasbux funding it, which is a shame and the creators of the show have to be smart with what they're doing or else they'll run out of money.

I'm blaming Disney for this mess though, they have the money to give them, they're just being Jews about it. As well as shoving Rebels on XD, rather than the regular Disney Channel.

>>77602321

I'm sure ANH took a lot of inspiration from other things. The difference is when you're taking inspiration from something in the same series it's in, in a franchise that's selling point is that it's set in a huge galaxy and has had tons of movies/books/games/comics/shows/etc showing tons of vastly different stories in this universe. Are you really telling me they couldn't have done a story about a group of Republic soldiers getting lost on some planet and fighting a cult that's trying to destroy the galaxy? Or about a bounty hunter that is trying to kill the other main character but can't for whatever reason and while fighting a common enemy gives up the bounty and lets them live? Or a scientist and a Jedi trying to make it across the galaxy to bring a component to a machine the Republic has built to stop some huge natural disaster that could wipe out entire systems? There's so much other stuff they could have done for TFA.
>Seriously, I think people are just calling TFA a rehash because there is literally nothing else they could criticise about it.
You're right, that's just about the only thing I don't like about TFA, but I'm at least willing to look past it's flaws instead of getting extremely butthurt because people are criticizing a movie I like. It's like some of you guys want this place to be some 'safe space' for Star Wars discussion where nobody is allowed to dislike things about the franchise without people jumping down our throats.

Because he can and because he probably wants to see if other people share his opinion so we can have a discussion about the show be it positive or negative. If you don't agree with him either debate his points or fuck off. This thread has a huge problem with people trying to make this a hugbox where the EU isn't allowed to be discussed and the prequels and Rebels aren't allowed to be criticized. And I hate to assume this, but it just smells like newfags who just got into Star Wars this year and want to police discussion on Star Wars because they don't know shit about it and probably don't understand it. If this is the case then you're the one who doesn't belong in this thread.

Also, since I know you're going to say it, I don't even agree with him, but he has every right to post his opinions of the show in here just like everyone else without you coming in here trying to police us around and stopping people from saying things you don't agree with.

Lothal's worst kept secret is the fact it has Kyber crystals within it's crust, it's not like other Outer Rim worlds in the least. The Empire needs those crystals for one of it's most powerful projects to date.

Reminder that the Knights of the Old Republic era is secretly canon but Hidalgo won't let it be official canon because he doesn't like how it represents the force. It's too late for them to say that it's canon, but they're making things with the mindset that it is until they start making Old Republic era media in the new canon. Just to be safe I would check out Tales of the Jedi, the KOTOR comic, KOTOR 1 and 2, TOR, and all TOR comics and books so you have an idea of what the canon Old Republic was like. Also keep in mind the dates would be retconned so Tales of the Jedi took place 3,000 years before the movies instead of 20,000 years now.

So Battlefront is neat, but there is a pretty glaring problem that's going to make it get boring fast; Why the heck is each individual Game Mode a separate playlist!?

It's fine at launch, but in 3 months time when the playerbase thins out, there are going to be some very slow and empty Playlists unless they change this (and the Season Pass info is implying that they aren't going to change it, but rather add MORE playlists.)

How I would do it;

>20 vs 20 Playlist
Has all 40-Player game modes including Walker Assault. These all have Heroes/Vehicles, if that's what you want, that's what you're gonna' get here.

>Blast
Basically TDM for the normies. (I'd personally remove this game mode altogether, so boring)

>Fighter Squadron
Fighter Squadron.

>Heroes & Villains
HvV and Hero Hunt

>Objectives
Everything else.

There, halved the Playlists and everyone can get to play the exact kinda' game they're looking for.

That is very true. The content in particular.

But spreading the content out so thin across so many playlists is retarded and makes the lack of content stand out even more. If you compressed the content into 5 relevant playlists, the playlists would feel more "full" and diverse.

Right not each one is empty with like 4 maps in rotation and one game mode per playlist, when some of the playlists should very clearly be merged.

Why the hell is Drop Zone seperate from Droid Run? The two Hero Game modes are extremely similar and would be just fine in a single playlist too.

I'd have a lot more fun if I didn't have to playlist hop to get a variety in the game modes im playing.

Fun fact, he was going to live. Filoni decided to kill him to give the scene more weight and impact on Kanan.

Similar thing with Aresko and Grint, Filoni changed the scripts to show that Tarkin/Inquisitor was more of a threat.

Nowhere, this was just another fun headcanon that was introduced in past /swg/ threads, someone had some fanart of Inky where this was suggested. Also by Pau'an standards, Inky was jailbait even though he's several decades old.

I love that he is canonically a Bri'ish soundin geeza. And voiced by Simon Pegg no less!

That's a funny way of spelling "not canon"

You should have been here when we made the headcanon Aresko was an Umbaran/tentacle plant monster hybrid. That shit got weird, but pretty fun.

Too badass to be canon

Some distant relatives once gave me his action figure for my birthday. I guess that made me the biggest Ric Olie fan in the world by default.
>>
>>77605681
He feels so 90's, despite coming around in 2003
>>
>>77605681
I wouldn't actually mind him being canon. We have literally no canon material set during the first half year or so of the Clone War. They can make him the big bad guy, before Ventress/Greivous shows up
>>
>>77605674
Speaking of that, what's with all the aliens in the Empire's ranks nowadays? I thought they had a "humans-only" hiring policy.
>>
>>77605718
Not anymore.
>>
>>77604726
I was pretty grumpy about the character customization too. All them no helmet options for stormtrooper and like 5 aliums for the rebels that you don't unlock a single one of until rank 40. Game doesn't even need that nonsense and they still blew it.

Yeah, the customization is fucked. But thankfully, the playerbase seems to be rejecting their bullshit. Almost everyone I have played with so far has kept their helmet on as a Stormtrooper.

I was worried everyone would be running around as some OC Donut Steel, but thankfully the majority of players seem to not want that. Only found a handful of players running around with no helmets.

>I thought they had a "humans-only" hiring policy.
Eh, only in the old EU stuff, which really made the Empire too heavy-handed in it's villainy. The Human-High culture part was pretty damn stupid and ham-fisted. In the new canon, the Empire isn't making speciesism a systemwide policy. There are racist/speciesest Imperials in the ranks, but it's more of a individual thing rather that company rules.
>>
>>77605718
That was in the EU. The Empire in new canon seems to be an equal opportunity opportunist, so anyone can join provided they're useful. There's still examples of alien-haters within the Empire, and they have no qualms about enslaving whole races or just performing straight-up genocide, but it's not a strictly "we only like humans everything else is scum!" situation.

The change was probably made because the EU had painted Palpatine as a human supremacist, which seemed weird when the prequels had him closely consorting with aliens and even had one as an apprentice. Plus his anti-alien views imply he thinks humans are superior but it seems more fitting that he doesn't give a shit about anyone and only cares if you're useful.
>>
>>77605771
I want to see some 501st dudes make a video like this, they find a guy at a mall or something with a cheap Party City version of the stormtrooper costume and start trying to publicly shame him for being a fraud.
>>
>>77605718
Now it's Humanoids only.

As long as they're sorta human shaped, they're good. Mirilian, Pantoran, Chiss, ect.

Inquisitors probably get more leeway because they're rarer and more valuable.

Problem is Aliens don't want to join because most aliens are from outer rim worlds which the Empire treats the worst. There's also some racism in the lower ranks, according to Servants of the Empire. People think they're above needing Aliens in the Empire, although the higher ranks dont care. Just more people to die for them.
>>
>>77605687
That 48 hours was probably the most exciting time of Ric's life, god bless him. 10 years later and I bet he happily retired and lived in a nice little spot in the Naboo hills til the end of the days.

He needed to make an appearance in TCW, still piloting and still pointing out obvious things

Panaka was supposed to appear in the Malevolence arc, accompanying Padme when she gets redirected there and suddenly captured. He was scripted to die there, too.

They cut him for budgetary reasons and apparently decided they didn't feel like revisiting him. Something similar happened with Quinlan Vos, who was originally going to appear in Bombad Jedi secretly using the Force to make Jar Jar appear to be a Jedi, he also got cut for budget reasons but still ended up appearing later in the show.

Before the dark times. Before the trust issues.

>He was scripted to die there, too

Filoni truly is a monster.
>>
>>77605846
Probably because they tend to be poor and have minimal political influence, so they're easier to exploit. You can go out to Lothal and dick around with the people and take their farms and murder protesters, but that shit wouldn't fly so easily if you tried it on, say, Alderaan.

At least while the senate was still around.
>>
>>77605777

There's something off about the faces I can't put my finger on, but they always look better helmeted. It's probably the same way the alien heads are so much bigger than they should be.

Also hilarious how the only change between helmeted male and female stormtroopers in the select screen seem to be slightly different hips. Upper body stays the same.
