Good finale, but I thought it was kind of weird how Marcy turned pink. All I could think of was whether or not they were trying to emulate the most ridiculous part of LoK.

I really enjoyed this miniseries. It has a decent balance of the good parts of both old and new adventure time and doesn't overdo either one. I love the adventure, the arc and occasional flashback and song (without becoming too cheapening), the fight scenes and villains, and the jokes (again, without trying too hard). Some of the art and animation was pretty good too.
Maybe I'm too positive about it, but I went into the miniseries with no expectations and ended up being pleasantly surprised.

The candy kingdom was small when she and Marceline were close. She built it all by herself. It makes sense her and Marceline were outcasts and the underdogs. Plus they are women, others would never of thought they could kick ass. It kind of also makes sense with the way she acts, all tough and stuff.

There were two ways that they could have won and actually had significant changes there and of course neither of them happened because of WACKY CIRCUMSTANCES and shit.
Honestly I think this is worse than The Comet just because of how half assed the status quo stuff was. I mean it wasn't good in The Comet either, but I didn't find it so blatantly lazy and shitty as in this.

To be fair, AT always has a problem with proper payoffs, but what the hell was with all the toilet humor? Do the hacks running the show now think this is what the first seasons were like? They may have used toilet humor too, but they were way more subtle then fart sounds and actual farts.

It has been confirmed that the remainder of Humanity achieved space traveling technology and presumably left Earth. We can expect that they will return in the final episode of AT with a massive fleet.

For at least 50% of the miniseries I'm pretty sure the writers either didn't know what to do with Finn and Jake or just didn't want them there.
They had some nice moments though, like Jake turning into a house or Finn being bait and saving the King. Also had some surprisingly good dialogue sprinkled throughout the thing.

In the past the show was jokes and humor above everything else. The fact that nothing ever mattered did not harm the show in any way, as the episodes were entertaining enough to keep the viewer happy by themselves.
Now, several years later, the actual entertainment quality of the show has gone down (at least in my opinion) and the plot stuff they have isn't enough to make up for the comedy falling. It COULD be, but the writers are never up for it.
At this point AT needs changes like that to have people give a shit, because the episodes themselves are much less interesting than before.
Also, the things you listed matter very little. King of OOO is just resetting the show a few months before he became princess, Marcy and PB are always written differently depending on who the boarder is, and the vampire king will be like Finn's thorn, showing up one time every 8 months. Now that Stakes is over I can talk about this.
Everything Stays is fucking beautiful when you think about it. Especially you jaded fags that insist that there needs to be a major change/destruction of the status quo.
The whole miniseries (and, as it continues, I'm starting to think the whole series itself) is about the inevitable cycle of growth and destruction and how there's nothing these characters can do to stop it.

The first two verses seem to capture the feeling of old fans that grew to hate what adventure time had become. How they gave up and left the show with frowns.
The writers probably recognize how pissed the fans have been lately, and they want to go back to that garden from the past.

Yes, the show will always return to the status quo on the grander scheme. The world won't just get radically changed. But slowly, small things do change. Characters grow and learn different things. Small affects sprinkle throughout the timeline.
You can't honestly say that things haven't changed in many ways since Season 1. How all the characters have grown up in their own ways (for better or worse).
TL:DR: Everything stays, but it still changes. Stop focusing on the status quo and just let things grow at their own pace. It's all about the never ending cycles of going out exploring and doing shit, then returning home slightly different inside.

Small revision for my first point, due to me being off quite a bit.

Finn is to believed to be the last human on Earth until he discovers Susan Strong, another human. This in turn creates a plot device in the form of Beautopia, a city in which we know little about or how its tribe fits into the human pathos. Coupled with a character who has only been in three episodes, now has been reintroduced into yet another subplot just because. UNRESOLVED
This one is pretty iffy and I was hesitant to put in on the list but there is some underlying element in there somewhere.
In the episode Marceline's Closet we see Finn and Jake play cloud hunt. Finn says, "Over the mountain, the ominous cloud coming to cover the land in a shroud, hide in a bushel, a basement, a cave, but when cloud comes a-huntin', No one's a save... no, safe!" For a long time many thought this was referring to the mushroom war, but from what we've seen in the mini series what if it was referring to the Dark Cloud?

As for the episode itself it really doesn't say or do much but to tell you other than, yes Susan still exists and were gonna shoehorn her into this weird plot where she's trying to recover a baby from a soda factory ruled under a mascot named Cheryl. Then tracking devices are come into to play, it's a really bizarre episodes and doesn't really do much of anything to advance the plot, it's just there.
