Season long themes need to be a more common element in shows.
Maybe not constantly for South Park, stand alone episodes have merit as well, but for television shows in general. A lot of television writers seem to have no idea where the fuck their show is headed and just write things episode to episode with no end goal in mind.
Take Battlestar Galactica or Lost for example. They basically tricked people into thinking there was some grand story to tell, when really it was the writers just making shit up as they went.

When you hear old-fashioned TV writers talk, they refer to season-long themes as kinda cheating. It's like tricking the viewer into having to tune in next week. I guess what makes it work today is the complexity involved. South Park used to be written and animated 2 weeks before air. Personally, my opinion is that western governments should begin bending the arms of other governments in the region to begin accepting refugees. But acknowledging the very real culture clash and the fact that Europe can't handle them all doesn't mean you can't also, at the same time, acknowledge that a lot of the refugees are clearly suffering. You don't have to demonize them. I think a lot of Europeans want to demonize them because the logic is "If we can prove they aren't suffering all that much, we have no obligation to help them."
I think, instead, you're going to need to learn to accept that you have no obligation to help them EVEN THOUGH they are suffering.
