>>77533280
thank you for no using a feet pic in OP
>>77533280
More shit fetish stuff?
>>77533280
i don't like this pic
>>77533320
Nice double standard, faggot
This show is terrible.
>>77533430
The new comics leave something to be desired too.
But hey, it's something to watch.
>>77533478
The ones which aren't the main comic are pretty good though.
So, in the new Canon, the Empire isn't speciest anymore?
>>77533516
They aren't, though. Not a single one of them has risen above the level of 'eh, I guess that was okay'.
>>77533478
Oh no its replacing the shitty sotme book in canon. You do realize Vader and Luke had already net each other before empire before Disney took control right?
>>77533516
When is this meme going to end?
I've just started watching this show, pretty interesting so far.
Also the fact that they've put David Niven in space has already put me greatly in it's favour.
We're off to a great start.
At last the OP didn't post shitty giantess/feet "art".
>>77533404
Nah', it's pretty clearly much better than feet/giantess shit.
>>77533589
No one said anything about anything being replaced or Luke and Vader meeting. Just that the book sucks.
You always get this triggered when someone calls out your shit taste?
These threads have always been uncomfortably sexual, but why the hell have the OPs been stepping it up lately?
>>77533658
You missed several shitposting threads about that image whining how it ruined empire.
>>77533478
The Darth Vader series is fantastic
>>77533568
Not against humanoids.
They seem to dislike furry species a lot still though.
>>77533631
The double standard is strong with this one.
>>77533631
It's literally the same thing and you're only okay with it because you're a "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE" faggot. Please fuck off and stop shitting up what was once an entertaining thread to post in.
Holy shit this place brings out the idiots.
>>77533719
And you clearly missed the actual book, because it sucks.
>>77533578
>>77533603
Opinions. I like em.
>>77533724

Who doesn't?
>>77533674

You a prude?
>>77533724
>They seem to dislike furry species a lot still though.
As they should.
>>77533760
Nah, I'm enjoying them all. You're welcome to your opinion though.
>>77533589
Jesus Christ have some taste
>>77533773
WELL I THOUGHT EWOKS WAS A PRETTY GOOD CARTOON FOR IT'S TIME
>>77533860
That was my time, and no, it wasn't.
>>77533578
Seriously? You and I disagree. The only one I didn't like was Leia.
>>77533603
When it stops being true
>>77533829
>>77533829
>Nah, I'm enjoying them all
That's too bad. You should read this.
>>77533860
I kinda like the ewoks in ROTJ, but it became a bit too much to have them in anything else. Also the tone in the cartoon was wildly off for Star Wars. It was essentially just a thinly veiled Care Bears cartoon with magic and monsters.
>your show is shit
>your comics are shit
why are these shitposters allowed to post on /co/? Surely going to a board/posting in threads to do nothing but shit on the subject/content is ban worthy, right?
>>77533899
EUfags everyone
>>77533907
Calling it a Care Bears cartoon is a bit harsh, it's more a generic fantasy show to be honest. However I do appreciate the fact it along with Droids tried to expand upon the Star Wars universe.
>>77533916
oh no! people don't like what I like! My hugbox is ruined! Somebody ban them!!!
>>77533083
>Kylo Ren is this universe's version of Jacen and Rey is Jaina.
>Or they better be, or I'm fucking done with Star Wars forever.
Why? The Solo twins were among the most awful things in the old EU.
Also, Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley are like a decade apart in age. There's no way they can be twins.
>>77530161
i'll try buying a couple, im still unsure if i should collect them or not
>>77533280
>Somewhere in the galaxy, a dancer has paid for the special 20 foot long lekku extensions.
>She uses them for porn.
>She swears they're real.
>>77533951
>how dare that man want someone to read a good book
>>77533997
You're right man, imma be just like you. brb, imma go post in a couple dozen threads to shit on the topics! I don't even have to bother watching them!
>>77533978
Yeah, a little too harsh, I agree. But it had a very whimsical tone to it. But yeah, it did at least try to expand the SW universe early, and in fact was one of the first "Expanded Universe" things (only preceded by the Marvel comic, Splinter of the Mind's Eye and possibly the Han Solo novels, I think).
I don't think the future EU writers ever did a lot with the stuff from Ewoks and Droids, though. The Dark Horse comics were related to the shows in name only more or less.
>>77534011
Driver and Ridley are 8 years apart, Hamill and Fisher were 5
>>77534053
I've watched every episode of Rebels. I'm a fan of Clone Wars, of Greg Weisman, and I even know people who work on the show.
It's not a very good show. Even when you try to go "It's just Star Wars! It doesn't have to be good!"
nth for Sheev and his fully operational fresh moves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84YXPw4htnQ
>>77534082
Well I think the Dark Horse comic did a pretty good job, obviously the tone for the show was more kid friendly but then there were moments like these freaky things...
>>77534011
Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher aren't the same age either.
People in their 30's continue to portray high school students. Do you know anything about how stuff actually plays out on screen?
>>77534127
I'm not saying you have to like it or that it's good. But dont waste your time being a shitter and coming to a thread just to shit on it. It does no good for anybody.
>>77533899
Hands down my favorite Star Wars comic and I'm enjoying A New Dawn
I hope Miller gets another Star Wars comic
>>77533320
nth for B-Wing being made by a manlet
>>77534213
You're right. Better just talk about how we love this show so this fucking guy stops his tantrum.
Star Wars Rebels is a masterpiece and I enjoy it so much! It's SOOOO GOOD U GUYS OMG
fuck off.
>>77534213
You don't have to act like the show is perfect either, 2bh.
>>77534279
That's what we're missing from Marvel currently, a long, ongoing comic about a character not from the films or showsI miss the years when We had Legacy, KOTOR, and Dark Times ongoing at the same time
>>77534305
It was?
>>77533280
That's lewd. More Padmae ass.
>>77534213
How butthurt are you? This is a thread for discussing the show. That doesn't mean we only talk about how much we like it.
>>77534391
I doubt we'll get an expansion on the Star Wars universe for a while. They've taken the internet too seriously and now they think the only thing that could possibly interest a person is the OT and related shit.
God forbid we tell stories of the Old Republic or even get the fucking Clone Wars era in Star Wars Battlefront.
>>77534213
>muh safe space
Get bent
>>77534499
I'm fine with them staying in the movie era for now, and even mostly the OT because that's what's hot at the moment, I just hope they move on to non-movie characters eventually. What we've gotten out of Marvel so far is
>Vader
>Lando
>Chewie
>Leia
>General Star Wars (aka Luke)
>and Kanan (which was the best one imo)
I know how it works. Whenever a company gets its hands on the IP, they go to the staples first. Hopefully after TFA drops we'll see them widen the scope
>>77534641
>Hopefully after TFA drops we'll see them widen the scope
It'll widen. To TFA stuff. And nothing more. No the focus isn't to build a universe. It's to cash in.
>>77534705
Honestly that's fine. I don't dislike the OT era by any means, but it's by far the most overexposed time period. Books and comics about the new era beats another story of vader being vader
>>77534705
They're more interested in building a post TFA canon they control 100%.
>>77534797
We need adventures from the Old Republic.
has anyone posted up Insider 161's short story (Inbrief) or the most recent Rebels magazine comic (Assessment) yet? I saw in the previous thread that someone said a few threads ago someone else posted some Rebels magazine scans but that they didnt know if they were the most recent and i couldnt find anything
Why did Jj forget that this new star wars movie is a sequel and not a reboot
>>77534851
What leads you to believe it's a reboot?
>>77534166
So this is the kinect game that everyone was all riled up about? This is fucking hilarious. I don't understand why Star Wars fans are so sensitive.
>>77534864
>empire in charge
>jedi dead
>fucking death star
It's the exact same as episode 4 just replace Luke with a black guy and Ben kenobi with Han
>>77534840
I don't think anyone posted any scans of anything. As for insider, no one has said anything about that either.
>>77534913
So? It's like pottery.
>>77534840
>has anyone posted up Insider 161's short story (Inbrief)
Nope, there is a delay on Insider 161 due to some sort of error on the Zinio's side(the company that publishes the digital version)
>or the most recent Rebels magazine comic (Assessment) yet?
Don't think so.
>I saw in the previous thread that someone said a few threads ago someone else posted some Rebels magazine scans but that they didnt know if they were the most recent and i couldnt find anything
I posted links to Issue #9 and #10 a few threads ago but not sure if #10 was the latest.
>>77534918
I've actually updated several times the status of the digital version.
>>77534913
Then don't watch it, and go cry in a corner with your Vong books.
>>77534913
>empire in charge
Of what? For all we know it's just one sector. The Empire was never going to vanish when the Emperor died. It instead fractured into a bunch of sub factions each led by the Moffs.
This has nothing to do with JJ.
>fucking death star
Yeah I don't like this one at all. Got me there.
>>77534831
Agreed, but I don't expect anything besides passing references for years
Besides, as far as i'm concerned everything self-contained in the pre-TPM EU still happened until contradicted, especially stuff so long ago it has no effect on the film eraI;m aware it's just headcanon bs, I just figure there's no hard so long as it's in an untouched region
>>77534960
Better the vong than more fucking empire and death stars and sith
>>77534960
>people with different onions are invading muh safe space
stop
Will you just leave already? You do this every thread.
http://www.starwars.com/databank/lightsaber-crystal
>A lightsaber crystal is colorless until first attuned and connected to a Jedi -- at which times it glows either blue or green, or in some rare instances, another shade. From that point on, it retains that hue.
What are your thoughts on this?
>>77534934
>>77534960
I'm actually curious.. Do you guys want Episode IV Part II or new plot development?
>>77534960
>don't like, don't watch
Wow, really? Did I click on a Youtube comment section?
>>77534992
The fact that there are stormtroopers everywhere and Han said the jedi are dead makes it obvious that they still control the whole galaxy
>>77535035
You know what I really want to see?
More Tyber Zann
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRyNLNf9BMA
But in all seriousness, wait until the movie comes out before complaining about it.
>>77535048
Not really. Seeing a few hundred troopers doesn't indicate they control the whole galaxy.
All signs point to it being a small sector in the outer rim that the New Republic politically doesn't want to get involved in, hence the separate Resistance faction
>>77535024
Meh, it's whatever. Just means Jedi don't pick their color anymore.
Also in the new canon does Luke still use a synthetic crystal for his second saber?
>>77535024
That's fine with me. The crystal and the Jedi are bound together with the Force.
>>77535035
New plot development and less OT pandering to generation-x.
>>77535024
pottery
>>77535024
When the explanation for something is space magic, they were probably better off not not explaining at all.
>>77535130
You know, the whole midichlorians thing would have gone down a lot better if it was just force gamma radiation or something.
>>77535035
New plot development.
Nostalgia pandering isn't healthy for the creative industry nor movie goers. The bubble will pop eventually.
>>77535035
More PT pandering to Generation Y
>>77535130
Dude. It's fucking Star Wars.
>>77535067
There's a reference to the Zann Consortium in Uprising.
>>77535196
Shut up
>>77535222What's Uprising?
>>77535067
I remember the first time I heard this. Gave me chills. Tyber Zann may have been mary sue as fuck, but he was also intimidating as fuck.
>>77535240
TOMORROW SHALL NOT COME
>>77535130
When your protagonists are samurai warrior psychics, space magic has an explanation makes sense.,
>>77535024
I'm cool with this. Though I guess it isn't the same color with every crystal. Ahsoka had a green one and a slightly yellow one.
>>77535094
>Also in the new canon does Luke still use a synthetic crystal for his second saber?
Don't think it's been brought up as far as I know. Didn't even know he used a synthesized crystal since I thought those were all red. Also what second lightsaber? I thought he only ever had one. Unless you consider his "first one" to be Anakin's, which I don't.
>>77535035
Randy Newman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqNG_SrSa4o
>>77535235
A pretty good mobile game.
>>77535067
I want an underworld comic now.
One that focuses on the shitflinging between the major underworld powers. Black Sun, Hutt cartels, and yes lest throw in Tyber Zann.
The focus should be on underlings rather than the big bosses themselves though.
>>77535235
mobile game taking place after RotJ
>>77535222
neat, what's the reference?
>>77535289
>Mace Windu
>blue
>Ki-Adi-Mundi
>purple
Wut
>>77535289
The real thing that makes lightsabers hard to wield is big fucking buttons protruding from the handle. Anyone who owns a replica Luke or Vader saber knows it.
>>77535117
>Less OT pandering
So you want shittier stories about LOOOOVE and POTTERY?
>>77535297
>>77535303
Is it some 'free' to play stuff or actually well thought out?
>>77535301
I'd read it.
>>77535303
Some of the members of your crew belong to the Consortium, I think there's also a few references in crew missions, they also referenced Grievous' lab in Belsus.
>>77535323
That's actually the color their sabers were shown as in comics before AotC
>>77535164
Honestly, the movies may not be the best but the PT inspired a LOT of great Star Wars stuff. That deserves more spotlight.
>>77535380
Oh yeah, now I remember. Plo Koon's lightsaber used to be yellow.
>>77534957
thanks for the info. disappointing that neither has been uploaded yet but i suppose they'll show up eventually. i'm really interested in Assessment since Zare apparently shows up in it and it's probably the last time we'll see Aresko and Grint
>>77535357
>So you want shittier stories about LOOOOVE and POTTERY?
If those are done well, then sure. But mostly I want something new instead of OT 2.0.
>Edgy kids on /co/ trying to act cool saying they like the prequels
>>77535373
>>77535301
>>77535067
I always wondered why Tyber Zann never really made any appearances outside that game. He and his organization, however you feel about them being overpowered, were pretty cool.
Is there any in-universe reason why the Rebels shoot red lasers and the Empire shoots green lasers?
>>77535325
Can confirm. With Anakin's I usually just lay my right thumb on the button and wrap the rest of my right hand around from there. Luke's green saber is stupid uncomfortable.
Obi and Qui-Gon TPM are most comfortable by far IMO. Most elegant as well.
>>77535289
In Legends Luke had a synthetic crystal. I think the giveaway was the consistently different noise it made, but IIRC the other Jedi lightsabers in ROTS spontaneously use that noise as well.
>>77535436
Wait, Assessment has Aresko Grint and Zare in it? As the main characters and not Cameos?
Who makes these comics again?
>>77535441
>Some oldfag who's still butthurt that the PT wasn't just more of the OT like he envisioned it would be and it killed his hype back in 99.
>>77535444
Tradition. Well till the Rebels storyline creates rainbow lasers for the Gay characters.
These last few threads are been terrible and filled with shitposting. Guess it's time to start the TFA blackout early.
>>77535035
new plot development of course
the plot of TFA is essentially the three OT movies smushed together to make the ultimate nostalgia wankfest, with some interesting twists. it's disappointing. i know that in the end it will probably be very enjoyable and pottery will be abundant, and that the plot is really merely there to drive the characters, and that execution is more important than originality. i get that.
but the prequels showed - whether you like them or not (and i do like them) - that star wars can and should be more than just what the OT was, and that the underlying "poetry" doesnt literally have to be the same thing repeating
>>77535536
It's 4chan, not your personal hugbox
>>77535441
Oh fuck off already

this guy
>>77535529
You have to be 18 to post here.
>>77535442
Likewise, I really liked the Zann Consortium but in retrospect a map-based RTS game was probably the wrong genre to introduce such a character. As the general nature of the genre's gameplay favours factions that can muster huge forces. Thus leading to his OPness.
Even so, I do like the idea of these powerful crime lords operating small planetary empires out of sight of the big players...
>>77535584
>It's okay to constantly shitpost and troll because "lol 4chan"
Fucking newfags.
>>77535637
Hate to break it to ya gramps but kids who were 10 when the phantom menace came are 26 now.
>>77535671
>It's okay to never criticize Star Wars Rebels because it is a perfect show with no flaws whatsoever
>>77535637
Good for me, well past that. At least I'm not some steaming 40-something year old asshat who's still pissed that the PT isn't just the OT all over again.
>>77534410
>Wanting pale human colored butt cheeks.
>>77535637I'm 64
What an awful thread.
>>77533280

So why didn't we see more of Urai Fen's people? I mean bird people isn't too far out in a universe with mushroom people and teddy bears.
>>77535734
>pissed that the PT isn't just the OT all over again.
mischaracterization of peoples complaints concerning pt
>>77535710
So why not do that instead of troll and post frog images?
I have a feeling you have no idea how to actually criticize something.

Those are all horseshite complaints.

>>77534797
>but it's by far the most overexposed time period.
Right now yes, but we just had a decade where EU was either Clone Wars or post ROTJ.
>>77535884
What are you even talking about? Did you come here just to start shit? Do you even like Star Wars?
>>77535790
I thought Urai Fen was suppose to be the last of his people. Isn't he himself like 1000 years old?
>>77536000
That's literally what his post is saying.
>>77535990
Way ahead of you Piett, we had pretty good threads last weekend, seems to me the trolls are now shitposting to make up for that.
Dump your spinning jokes here lads.
>>77536006
Probably, the real issue I have with Forces of Corruption is that nothing is extrapolated upon afterwards.Like that massive vault full of Sith frozen in Carbonite
Seriously though, Empire At War was great, I loved going around the galaxy and learning about the Star Wars universe. There was a really good mod I forget the name of, anyone got mod recommendations?
>>77535790
Bird aliens are just kind of cliche, same with cat aliens, which is why I never liked the Cathar.
>>77535923
>The nonexistent overuse of CG?
When your movie set looks like pic related, then, yes, it is a vast overuse of CG.
>>77536093
What's wrong with the Cathars?
In all seriousness, I take your point. Though I'd argue bird aliens are less common that fuggin catgirls.
>>77536135Shit, forgot to post my hilarious same name different people image.
>>77535923
Worst things you can say about TPM (IMO) is that some of the delivery can be flat, especially Portman's (and George's trademark clunky dialogue doesn't help) and that's it's a really fucking convoluted movie. There are a lot of things that add up and make it hard to follow if you're not paying 100% attention, like the lack of a central protagonist, the very shadowy nature of the plot, the editing, clunky yet vague dialogue etc.
It really is a very George Lucas movie. All of his strengths shine through but so too do all of his weaknesses.
You're all arguing against brick-walls.
This was supposed to be a cool place. A place where we could talk about giving C-3PO overt glaring sexual organs and constantly teasing him about them in public. You were supposed to be the chosen one.
>>77536079
There's a good Clone Wars total conversion mod.
There's another one called Absolute Corruption, which is nuts. Other than that, I've played the Mass Effect and Star Trek mods, and they're pretty cool.
>>77534866
In fairness I don't think there was an even decent star wars game between the first force unleashed and that
when that's literally all you've got after quite a lot of nothing it's understandable to be assblasted.
In the grand scheme of things I also find it fucking hilarious though.
>>77536223
I hope you're just referring to games in that generation/console, because there are a *load* of good Star Wars games.
>>77536210
>>77536079
You need good mods for Empire at War, because the AI gets waaaay too easy.
I was getting really annoyed after a while when no faction was bothering to come at me with capital ships.
>>77536103
>place that you can't film on earth
>why the fuck wasn't it filmed without cgi
Dude.
What the fuck would be done otherwise?
Matte paintings?
Using cgi to impose them on a miniature set, which they did a fuck load of times in the PT anyways?
Some unrealistically dangerous/expensive alternative?
Or just change the story because some nerds might get salty you couldn't find an active volcanic hellscape to film your actors sword fighting in?
And then there's Coruscant, Naboo, geonosis, etc, which either don't have somewhere like them on earth, or you can't really film there for one reason or another.
And he did film in a desert when they were on tatooine since that was easy enough.

Tfa hype ain't helping, but this has been an issue for months. It's not just /tv/ or a Wook editor, either, though they don't fucking help.
I think it's a dual victim complex.
Think about it:
>both see the other as the oppressive group trying to silence them, so they don't think reasoning with them is worth much effort, since it'll only be a pause before the other tries to shut them up again
>both can react negatively to suggesting we drop the subject and not get up in this argument again, saying such actions are just giving in to a hugbox or being a douchey nerd/fedora lord, etc
>but both hate a real oppressive group like Wook mods or the monthly /tv/ raiders
We're like Rex's clones and Waxer's clones. Our really asshole adversaries are our Krell. Stop firing anon's. We're all brothers here.
>>77536426
Technically, the used real lava, fake lava, AND cg lava.
>The volcano erupted during filming of Episode III and Lucasfilm sent camera crews to shoot several angles of the eruption; footage was later composited into the background of the scenes set on Mustafar including the lightsaber duel of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
God all this talk about Empire at War is making me want to reinstall it.

>>77536455

>>77536506

>>77536455
Lucas used green screen heavily in the PT partially for cost reduction measures because he was funding these movies out of his own pocket. does everyone forget this? the PT movies were generally made on about $150 million budgets, while modern blockbusters that started to come out after the PT can go way above that, or at least to $200 million
he was pushing the boundaries of technology but, being the guy putting all the money up front, wanted to try to keep it economical. he wasn't just a film maker but also a businessman and he had to think about the cost of things as well. and within the constraints that he dealt with, he did a remarkable job with the special effects. of course it looks outdated now, but if you are honest with yourself and not just jacking off to nostalgia, the untouched OT (if you hunt downt he VHS's) looks like garbage too. the Death Star assault is laughable. the vaseline-under-the-speeder is garbage. Greedo looks like a joke. we can accept these things as "real" because they were physical and as whimsical because we already enjoy the franchise, but to be 100% objective it looks terrible now.
but in both cases, both trilogies were stunning for their times
>>77536501

>>77536538
CG is a legitimate tool and it has been perfected to such a degree that it is often just not even noticed, like in Zodiac.
there's a difference between "CGI" and "bad CGI". are you the kind of person that hates all electronic music too because it "doesn't use real instruments"?
>>77536554
>Lucas used green screen heavily in the PT partially for cost reduction measures
You mean the shit that is MORE expensive than using real effects? CG is a fucking money sink, but hollywood uses it because it's easy and fast. It's a fucking cop out.
>>77536538
Again, you pretend to know everything, when you clearly know nothing about how the movies were made and how people in general make movies. More and more I'm thinking you just saw a RLM video or some buzzfeed list and took it as gospel.
>>77536455
>Lucas relied on it way too fucking much for the PT
Each of the prequels alone have more practical effects(models, sets, props, etc) than the ENTIRE OT does combined.
His use of CGI and digital effects(like digital mattes/cameras) allowed the medium as a whole to advance. We wouldn't have films like we do today without the work in the prequels.
>Moviemakers have made movies for a long time without using CG.
So what?

but Lucas was obsessed with making it a spectacle, instead of legitimately putting soul into it, we got no story at all and only cgi bullshit...sorry it's true, Lucas fell to the darkside, chose the quick and easy path, he really didn't care about starwars anymore.
>>77536538
So how would one do mustafar with out "spamming cgi", but still have it look no worse or no more limited than it is in episode 3?
If there's no such thing, then you're being a bit of a dick. If there is, you might have a solid point.
>>77536554
Both trilogies still look stunning today, especially the blu rays.
>people will get mad at this fact

This. You only really notice CGI when it's bad or outdated. I guarantee you that you have no idea just how many of your favorite shows are shot with green screens. See >>77536438 That's a fucking ABC show from 2006.
>>77536591
No it's not. CG ruins real movemaking and ruins the immersion for the audience, and cast. It's also destroyed real animation. CG is a fucking blight on movie history. But you fucking kids love it because it's all you know.
>>77536606
>More and more I'm thinking you just saw a RLM video or some buzzfeed list and took it as gospel.

>>77536173
As a kid seeing it for the first time I didn't understand who was attacking who and why, and why the Senate didn't stop the bad guys and what the Jedi were even doing mixed up in everything. Queen Amidala was boring, Jar Jar was annoying, I didn't like kid Anakin, and Darth Maul was barely in it and it wasn't very clear what he was up to so I never thought he was all that threatening. The only characters I liked were Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan but in retrospect they were pretty flat.
You can argue that I was young(er) and I didn't appreciate the complex and nuanced story of The Phantom Menace, but just because it's too complex for a kid it doesn't mean it's well-written.
Btw, when people complain about Star Wars CG I think they're complaining about the obviously shoe-horned in wacky creatures, the non-used-future gleam of the ships/buildings/vehicles, and the comparison of how much is happening on screen verses how little they feel invested in it.
>>77536606
The worst part is these people completely trivialize all the hard work and time hundreds of people put into the PT effects
>>77536624
yes, background matte paintings will surely provide the dynamic appearance of an active lava planet with which the actors will interact
>>Moviemakers have made movies for a long time without using CG
they also made movies for a long time without color or sound or widescreen or or animatronics or however many other innovations. i guess those technological and artistic choices are fine though?
>>77536682
Making CG effects is not hard work or something to be proud of. It's a cheap way to throw out a cash grab movie in a short period of time. Sitting at a computer is not making a movie.
>>77536709
>i guess those technological and artistic choices are fine though?
They are because they advanced movies. CG is like 3D, it ruined everything and dragged it down.
>>77536713
Well it is even without CG since editing is a thing.
Why does the b-Wing have a Death Star laser? That was never in episode 6.
>>77536623
>CGI ends up costing less in the end.
Only by way of schedule. Time is money, and it can take less time to fully computer render a scene than it can to plan it out, build a big set, and coordinate the stunt, etc. CG is fucking expensive and practical effects are not as expensive as everyone thinks.
Though it can take a while to do CG too. I think I read something about it taking two days or something for them to render like one second of an action scene in Transformers.
But I digress, no one really knows what they're talking about here.
>>77536713
>Making CG effects is not hard work or something to be proud of. It's a cheap way to throw out a cash grab movie in a short period of time. Sitting at a computer is not making a movie.

speaking of, LotR is a good example of the "good CG vs. bad CG" thing. the Hobbit movies are filled to the brim with useless, pointless CGI that does nothing but pad things out. LotR uses CGI as a proper effect for backgrounds, armies, characters like Gollum, the fell beasts, etc.
do you want giant monsters to still be stop motion or something? do you hate Jurassic Park? there are absolutely times where CGI is legitimate.

>>77536665
>You can argue that I was young(er) and I didn't appreciate the complex and nuanced story of The Phantom Menace
Oh lord no, I don't mean to say that it's complex and nuanced. It's just dense as hell. Like, that Rick McCallum quote perfectly encapsulates The Phantom Menace. If you're not paying attention constantly it definitely comes as off not making any sense because every scene is crammed full of shit you need to pay attention to. And George, bless his heart, doesn't care for dialogue, so it's flat and clunky and boring and that means you have to really scrutinize some aspects to pick up on a lot of the subtext. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan for instance, there's quite a lot there under the surface if you look hard and relate it to other shit but you wouldn't know that on the surface because they just come as vaguely uninterested weirdo monks.
I won't call it a good film on the whole because it's so dense but I do think it is a good story, or at least I think there's quite a lot to chew on.

it's something called
>Suspension of disbelief
Christopher Lee said the job of an actor is to make you believe he is the character, we all know he's an actor, but if he can convince you for a moment that it's real, that's the purpose.
The same logic should be applied to other areas of movie making, people in the Korean War felt connected to MASH because it captured history and feelings, but also they tried as hard as possible to make it AUTHENTIC to what it was supposed to be, they went to tedious length to make sure it was done right, and it was, many veterans felt emotional about it, it's like common sense though, people can tell when something has effort and soul put into it, or when something's forced or faked.

I'm probably going to regret jumping in here, but here are my thoughts on CGI in the prequels:
>It was amazing for the time
That's just objectively true. I remember seeing those as a kid and thinking "holy shit. This is it." There's no denying that they changed the industry in how to do CGI.
>Even now, some of it has aged really well
Most of the creatures look great still. Jar Jar, Watto, Yoda ... they hold up. The lighting isn't always perfect, but the models are great.
>Despite the good, it WAS overused at times
I get that Lucas was trying to push the boundaries. I respect him for that, and I think it's something that probably needed to be done, whether it was on Star Wars or another movie. But the technology wasn't QUITE there for some things. And for other things, while they looked good, practical effects would've been better. The clones close up, for instance, would've looked better as real armor. The floating pear was pretty weak.
But overall, if "too much CGI" is someone's main complaint, then they can go fuck themselves. The PT has a ton of flaws that you can point out when it comes to story telling. Calling out the movie principally on the CGI is a weak ass scapegoat.
Here's a real argument to have independent of the whole Ouroboros thing you have going on.
Which is best and worst Yoda? Make the decision based on what you like as opposed to the puppet vs CG thing.

The thing that kills me the most about these people is that so many of them act like they're fucking Sci-Fi and literature experts because they read Star Wars tie-in books. They think they're superior to the average person because they read a bunch of simple-written books intended for a young-adult audience. They think they're leet Sci-Fi fans despite only reading books based off a normie Sci-Fi franchise, and clearly having never read Dick, Clark, Asimov, Le Guein, Heinlein, Wolfe and all the other acclaimed Sci-Fi writers who didnt write fucking young adult books based off a popular film franchise.

if someone started watching Star Wars, should they start at the beginning? instead of a bunch of crazy shit happening that only makes sense if you saw the OT?
>The Saga Begins
to me that means people should talk more often, atleast in the beginning of a movie, to explain character's feelings on things that matter to the story being told, it can be their history, where they are in their life, or what they're fighting against, this makes us understand and connect to them...
This is why Fellowship of the Ring is the only LOTR movie i like, Bilbo is tormented by the ring, he finally drops the ring, "And he lived happily ever after til the end of his days", or yknow, Conan The Barbarian's intro, Crom is your God, the riddle of steel, stuff that's relevant to the whole story

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Like a lot of other people in this thread.
You just caught my eye as being a special kind of dismissive ignorant asshole.
There are people that have poured months of their lives into a few seconds of on screen footage, not to mention all the backend on the technological side that goes into it.
I can guarantee that you couldn''t even figure out shaderprogamming for the damn materials.
The sad thing is the more ignorant people are, the more convinced they are they know everything there is to know, because they can't even imagine how much they don't know with their tiny horizon.

No, I'm attacking you for making it in the shittiest way possible. If you don't like CGI Yoda, that's fine. I disagree, but whatever. The problem is you're presenting your opinion like a child.
Also, you're treating puppet vs CGI as if it's binary. I dare you to look at the original TPM Yoda and tell me it's better than the other PT Yodas.

Cause he's the only character making sensible decisions.
Doesn't run head first into suicidal situations, doesn't do overly stupid fuck ups or 'evil mologueing'.
The only thing that came close to cartoon villain was the the whole 'I ordered your people exterminated' thing before he went into 1 on 1 combat with the space monkey.
Aside from that he's a reasonable character.
I could actually see them make him more sympathetic in an attempt to humanize the empire's servants.
Though as the name suggests, he's a little too calculating to be really somebody you would want to identify with.
>>77538046
So were the SW Prequels.
>>77537992
Apparently it was a half-baked idea to make Yoda seem a bit more youthful and robust (hence the strong jawline). The problem with that is he's 900 by ROTJ and it's kind of unlikely that someone who lives that long would look much better at around 875 or so.
Well that, and the jawline is awkward and the attempt to give him brighter and more hopeful eyes just makes him look like he's constantly tweaked.
>>77537919
Because we get the gist of what's going to happen to him. At this point we know he's gonna die for his failures, but we just don't know how though. It'll be either by Zeb or Vader. My money's on Vader.
I hope get an Imperial that lives next season.

I've had enough of this show. I tried giving it a chance, watching every episode so far, but most of it has been mediocre at best. It's obvious that this is intended for children and all of the characters are so generic and one-note.

>Writing has gotten shittier (a fucking blockade of like 4 light cruisers causes a whole planet to starve)
Legit whats going on?
>>77538082
Oh the other one sorry.
>>77537919
Because he lost all of his development options. Kallus had promise as the normal antagonist working under the Inquisitor who was more focused on the Jedi. His interactions with the other Imperial characters let him bounce off of other personalities and share defeats with other villains, and he was poised to be Zeb's personal nemesis, which was easy development for him as well.
After every villain except Vader and Tarkin died, Kallus was forced to take on the entire villain workload, and he has no one to share the dynamic with. Tua, Aresko, Grint, and the Inquisitor are all gone, so he has to be the sole antagonist for the entire Ghost crew until the new Inquisitors get an episode again. And Konstantine hasn't been established enough for Kallus to work with. Combined with Zeb getting almost no more focus on his backstory and the near-extermination of his people, Kallus is just kind of an episodic obstacle the writers throw at the rebels with a new gimmick weapon to spotlight the Empire from the movies before he fails miserably. He lost what little character he started with in Season 1, and it's a damn shame.
>>77537534
i am 100% caught up except for Inbrief and Assessment, since they havent been uploaded yet, and i didnt bother to read the extraneous stuff like children's book adaptations of Rebels episodes
>>77538128
Dunno about the quality. In terms of animation I don't think so. In terms of writing maybe. There's a lot of stuff they try to reintroduce from TCW. So there's a lot of referential stuff or exposition.
I suspect there's gonna be a decent payoff for that later. Filoni seemed to know what he was doing before.
Also about the 'generic and one-note' characters, that due to the first season trying to establish the crew dynamic. The second season was gonna be about character backgrounds. So I guess real drama can happen in the 3rd season earliest.
At first I didn't really like Kanan, though after reading the comics detailing his origins I really warmed up to him. And upon a second viewing picked up on a few more subtle things that I did not pay attention to before.
So maybe that's just because I'm primed with the knowledge and looking for these things, but his reaction at the end of season one when hera was determined to join the rebel army has a much bigger impact if you know he sawclones execute order 66 in front of him.
>>77537429
it's weird that i dislike how yoda looks in ESB now. his lips and cheeks look too...fleshy? i think VI will always be definitive for me, even with the funny cross eyed thing that's kind of going on. III is the best of the prequels and definitely the most emotive.

Not a bad observation.
Should have played up the 'normal guy' thing while the Inquisitors and other big bads were gone. Would have been interesting to see what he would have done given a little more leeway without supervision. On the one side he's eager to make a career on the other hand he isn't a complete monster like Vader/Inky yet.
In retrospect that could have been handled better. You're right.

>a fucking blockade of like 4 light cruisers causes a whole planet to starve
The planet seemed to be small as fuck and going by how much Kallus has messed up in the past episode, him losing three AT-ATs, High Command isn't giving him any more leeway in terms of equipment.
>>77538069
>>77537919
There is the rebels UK comic, which makes him seem like a guy who just really believes in the empire's vision (order through fear and what not). He does some awful shit to make it happen but he does it because he does want there to be peace in the galaxy, at least to my interpretation.

If Zeb brought up his past more, he might be a better character. As for the ISB agent thing, that's probably how he got promoted, some upstart gets a plan to kill off a species, and in it's successful purge, he get's recognition as a result.

Yeah I was surprised by that too. I mean he only made commander by season two iirc, before that he was a lowly agent.
Doubt he'd have the authority to exterminate an entire species, even as empire mook. Even Palpatine has to keep up appearances, even though he might secretly revel in it.
Either way, once it's done it's a great way to intimidate people. 'Dude I killed an entire species once', might avoid a few fights here and there.

Nah, he'd be a whiny bitch and people would be annoyed with the martyr.
If he brings it up he'd be a pussy or an emo, if the other crewmates brought it up all the time it'd look like they only keep him around because of pity or something.
Either way it would make him pathetic. I like that he doesn't bring it up or likes to be reminded of him.

Zeb, right now, is boring muscle with Steve Blum's voice. He needs something as a crutch, because going by most people here, he's not an exciting character and is kinda wooden. I'm sorry, but a person losing his culture and people isn't emo, and being sad about it isn't 'emo'. It's something that needs to be addressed for Zeb, at least gradually.

>>77543584
Tbqh tho... Whats that pic really from
>reading Vader Down
HARDCASE AS FUCK
>>77544237
Storytime when?
>>77533280
Why is this picture so hot?
1080p ripanon here. If everything goes as planned, new episode will be up in about 13 hours from now on
>>77543384
Doesn't Anakin weild both a green and blue lightsaber at one point in the prequels? WTF is that supposed to mean under this: one half of his body follows a different credos to the other?
>>77544256
Seriously, when?
>>77544417
Anakin only ever made his one blue saber.
>>77544237
What do I have to read before I read Vader Down?
>>77544492
Just the Vader book.
>>77544451
Made is different from used, Anon. >>77543384 is saying that "the crystal changes color depending on the person using it". What does pic related represent, then?
>>77544512
Up to what issue?
>>77544524
It will segue into Vader Down.
>>77544521
The colors don't change after the crystal is first activated.
That anon misunderstood.
why does the B-wing have a mini-deathstar laser?
>>77544557
Oh. Ok. Thks for the clarification.
>>77544570
New canon, makes the B-wings not suck anymore because they did nothing on-screen so people just made them 'fiddlier Y-wings'.
>>77544570
Wait, what?
>>77544638
having 50% more lasers/ions, a larger payload, and a tractor beam at the cost of speed wasn't enough to set it apart from the Y-wing?
>>77544675
Yup. Too big for the job it was made for.
>>77544638
in the games they where the jack that was just as good at ion cannon-ing as lasering, meaning they where best suited to single-handedly taking out whole armies as efficiently as possible
>>77544638
But Y-Wings are utter shit in the video games. About as survivable as TIE Bombers.
>>77543584
Snoke is suppose to really friggin' tall.
Oh god /tv/ is going to have a field-day with this one.
>>77544723
tie bombers don't have shields, hyperdrive, and ions, anon.
Just a question, does Rebels pretty much entirely focus on the crew of The Ghost?
Not that I mind them, but I can see a weakness in comparison to Clone Wars in regards to the fact that the latter show was able to have story arcs based on completely different characters and locations.
>>77544899
so far, yes.
In Uprising, does that profile pic ever change or does it stay the same all the time regardless of what you're wearing?
>>77533280
Whoever starts the threads with these pics needs to get ass cancer.
>>77543584
>Snoke's identity was leaked.
the fuck is this from?
>>77544381
Thanks, Ripanon.
im really enjoying battlefront, have the feeling people are talking shit without a reason. I wont talk about graphics and that stuff, we already know how amazing it is. But the problem is gaymers have fucking high needs. The gameplay is awesome, that arcade look fits tottally with star wars, when playing you even have to behave like the troops from the movies. The feel is just amazing. Also why do people alk about a Campaign? Battlefront never had campaigns, galactic conquest was just a normal battlefront game with some little bla bla intro. It was no campaign. I really love it. I think every fan should play it not only for the game, but because it uses a lot of Quarries concept art. You learn a lot about the ambience of the planets and that enrichens the star wars world.
Why isn't this thread bumping?
>>77546193
A lack of bumping can mean only one thing.Invasion
>>77546210
Should I go ahead and make a new one then? We're already on page 10.
>>77546248
Sure
>>77543584
>>77543632
It's fake. Serkis has said that Snoke is like 25 ft tall. Muun's are tall to be sure, but not that much.
New thread (+ storytimes of the new comics)
