I've been doing a completionist run and am currently at 4 hours of play time and about 66% done with the game (that's an estimate).
I wouldn't say there's a ton of depth, you could probably get through the whole game with just attack/heal. But it does require a bit more skill compared to other RPGs. Missing a defend prompt can be devastating.
Basically, if you do it right, you won't need to grind at all.
That said, it's pretty much entirely a dungeon crawler. I wish there was more to it than that, but the gameplay is pretty good and whatever bit of the Gems we get it is great.
For $3 it's definitely worth it.

I really liked the crossover episode. All my initial skepticism stemmed from the fact that their universes followed different rulesets, and that UG wouldn't make sense in the context of SU.
But one of the first lines he says is "Don't worry kid, none of this is canon." And I think that's genius. It immediately put to rest the concerns of the clashing universe rulesets and trying to justify things that don't make sense using SU's universe's logic, because it no longer exists. It doesn't matter what happens, UG has full creative license because the episode exists outside the continuity of SU and so the episode can follow its own ruleset. I just thought that was a really innovative way to immediately shut down most of the people who weren't crazy about the crossover.
Also, what was you guys' favorite moment from the episode? Mine is "'This doesn't seem very safe.' 'Don't worry kid, I'm wearing a helmet.'"

That's what I'm saying, is that the established rules of Steven Universe don't fit UG. Saying "oh well that doesn't matter because he's omnipotent" is the same stupid excuse as a child who uses the "nuh uh my guy has a shield that can block all attacks and also he can stop time and kill anyone with a single punch" statement in a game of pretend. Even if I "conceded" and said that yeah, sure, UG gets to exist in SU and it's totally canon because he's God. That still doesn't make it good writing.
However, like I said, this is all negated by the fact that UG said the episode was non-canon, which removes any inter-show rule discrepancies.
