They're based on them but they're more emotive in Attack the Light so there are essentially "new poses" in it. In the regular show they're usually supposed to be too far away to convey anything besides their eyes existing and that's it.
So, I was thinking: when Steven comes across Ruby in Jail Break, she looks like she's in severe discomfort. She was audibly groaning in what seemed at least severe discomfort even before he got out, and then was extremely irritable, antsy, and seemed forgetful. I know she was really worried about Sapphire, but that didn't seem the way someone would act from just worry, it was more like she was in actual pain.
So, I wondered, what could cause that? The first possibility that occurred to me is that Ruby is defective or damaged or otherwise has some sort of problem that fusing with Sapphire cures; the second that fusing with Sapphire is actually addictive and she was in some sort of withdrawal. Then it hit me.

Has anyone else been watching Uncle Grandpa today? I've been watching it on and off all day and I found out that it's actually pretty good. Pizza Steve is hilarious, and even though UG warps reality like it's nothing and the plots are absurd, the flow of events is sometimes reasonable and generally well paced. It's sort of like the Amazing World of Gumball.
My only complaint is that there are no waifus and Uncle Grandpa is physically painful to look at. Other than that though, I was pleasantly surprised.
