They killed the Maelstrom for this?

It brings in money.

Just look at the people inside. Small children. Suicidal parents questioning why they even had these children. They scream as soon as they see Elsa or Anna or Elsanna or some other bullshit from a cliched film that was systematically designed to draw in an audience of 5 and below.

The children scream and beg and yell, and their parents get closer and closer to offing themselves. They go on this. The biggest money magnet ever designed by Disney executives. Sure to draw in more people than the age-old, tired, and slightly spooky Maelstrom. Who care about it if it doesn't sell? Frozen is still going like hot cakes. The parents are helpless. They want relief from their pain as Let It Go blares louder and louder over the speakers, and the cries of the many young girls aspiring to be a carbon copy princess cliche.

The snow melts against the parents unblinking eyes. The girls are in awe, believing it to be magic. Believing the Elsa IS real and that she IS there spilling her melting ice upon them. The parents can see the snow blasters from miles away. They cringe as Olaf opens his mouth to say something retarded. The children adore and worship him. That one dude in the crowd is crying himself to sleep at night, unable to understand or comprehend why she's built a shrine to him in her bedroom or why she made him spend her college fund on a Olaf plushy half the size of her room.

Disney has done research. Marketing research. They know what kids like. Annoying mascots, lesbian incest, pop songs that play over and over, cultural appropriation, generic princesses. Frozen has them all. Norway doesn't. Soon, they'll tear down the pavilion and replace it with Frozen land. The children don't know shit about Epcot, or geography in general. It'll fly right over their heads. Meanwhile, the adults will feel it. The ever creeping feeling of death. Death by Frozen.

Wait until they replace the Tower of Terror with Guardians of the Galaxy.

tl;dr

>popular children's movie is bad and uninspired, and is decaying society because they should be thinking about Norway instead
>>
The animatronics are top tier, though
>>
>>83959340
There was something off about a few of them though.

I guess it's realistic, but something about Elsa's arm movements really threw me off.

Universal is infinitley better and even Disney knows it and tries to make itself similar, but no matter what it does they will always be too different.

Disney is a theme park for little kids

Universal is a theme park for grown ups.

The Norway ride, Maelstrom, while it was neat having a mythological ride based on a little-thought about country, the ride itself aged poorly. Bad effects, and clung to early EPCOT petroleum sponsorship advocating that the oil industry was this fantastic thing that would help everyone. (Even the Bill Nye Energy Adventure tries to sell Oil hard.)

I'It wasn't going to be much other than a refreshing of the current 'diorama' infrastructure in place - but I'm dissapointed they couldn't do anything more productive with the animations. Why didn't Marshmallow pop out all angry with spikes and throw the boat off the cliff? That would have been awesome.

Speaking only to the California parks (I went in October so Harry Potter wasn't open yet), Universal always comes off as the most soulless corporate theme park I've ever been to. There's good stuff like Jurassic Park and The Mummy but nothing ever feels like you're anywhere but a tacky tourist trap.

There's little cardboard cutouts from the Apollo 13, then a live show about Water World. Who the fuck cares about half the actual properties in that park? None of them are themed nicely either they're just plopped down in random places.

Although, I think Halloween Horror Nights is top fucking notch (at least it was that year). I wasn't impressed by the daytime I spent there but as soon as six o'clock passed and you re-enter the park it's really impressive.

Indiana Jones, Cars, the new Matterhorn, Tower of Terror is not only a good ride but you better get to it before it gets retarded space superhero theming. Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean is a must at every Disney Park since they're so different everywhere.

I really want to disagree, but it being that Anon's first time I guess it's acceptable.
Indiana Jones just jostles you around and the Matterhorn is so jerky that it messes with my back every time I try and go on it.

I would also add Jungle Cruise to that list.

Nope. He has been removed from both Magic Kingdom's Festival of Fantasy parade and Mickey's Friendship Faire castle stage show. All gator jokes have been removed from the Jungle Cruise also. There were rumours that Disney was going to remove the scene of the Croc eating Captain Hook in Peter Pan's Flight but I think backlash stoopped that one.
>>
>>83958675
It's cute, but man that "projecting a face onto an animatronic body" thing is getting old.

Like, it was neat at first, but by now we've all seen Jack Sparrow, we've all seen the characters in Storytime with Belle, they clearly know how to make convincing animatronic figures.

It just looks weird, because they end up with a bright glowing face that only looks good from one angle.

Riveting stuff.

I love Universal's rides, but Disney has them beat with pure theming and atmosphere.
The only thing Universal has that gets close to that level of Disney magic is the Harry Potter section and maybe Springfield.
>>
>>83961225
Kids are the target audience.
You're delusional if you think the opinion of the adult audience matters in the slightest when it comes to what Disney does with their Frozen brand.
Notice how the Frozen ride is a sing-along dark ride you can bring an infant on and not a badass rollercoaster centered around lesbian incest porn.
>>
>>83961300
I've always looked at it like this; Disney has top-tier theming and atmosphere, but the rides are pretty standard.

Meanwhile Universal is a notch above freaking Six Flags when it comes to theming, but the rides immerse you like nobody's business.

>Star Wars ride at Disney, you're in a... travel agency that's flying to Endor.
>Jurassic Park Ride at Universal, you're attending John Hammond's new theme park when things go HORRIBLY WRONG!
>Space Mountain at Disney, you're on a rocket in space.
>The Hulk Rollercoaster in Orlando, you're visiting the lab of Dr Bruce Banner as he tries to cure himself of the Hulk, until... OH NOOOOO!

Like, Universal works hard once you're inside the ride, but Disney perfects everything OUTSIDE the ride (there's a few exceptions of course, like the Tower of Terror and Aerosmith coaster).

To be fair, it's not like they let their kid go pet the thing.
It was night time, it was hiding in the water, it grabbed their baby.

I view it as more of a freak tragedy than anything else. More importantly, it was heavily publicized. The last thing they want guests to think of while at the Happiest Place on Earth is a baby getting torn apart by a gator.

I figure it'll all be back in the park in a couple months, once the public has stopped talking about it (same as how they probably aren't gonna be advertising Movies on the Beach at the Grand Floridian for a while).

I don't see the problem.

Rode Maelstrom on its final day, it's understandable why Disney decided to do this. Maelstrom was severely under-maintained because Norwegian companies were no longer sponsoring the pavilion.

Changing it to Frozen is not only going to keep the pavilion funded, but bring in more crowds into Epcot.

Also, Maelstrom was a doomed concept the second the Norwegian sponsors wanted stupid shit like oil rigs in the ride. Should've just let Disney done their own thing and had it entirely troll themed with music by the Sherman Brothers.
>>
>>83965241
You don't need to be actively injected into the story all of the time. It gets tiring and samey after a while. And where do you get off calling Star Tours a generic travel agency to Endor thing? It's just like Jurassic Park: You go on vacation only for things to GO HORRIBLY WRONG and ending up in a Rebel/Imperial dogfight. The Star Tours reboot is even more "Pulling you into the story" to the point where it literally pulls someone into the story and declares them a Rebel spy.
>>
>>83962182
A bunch of rides at Disneyland are also single-rider if you're by yourself. Matterhorn, Splash, Indiana Jones, California Screamin' and Radiator Springs Racers are the main ones I think.

If you're there at rope drop, beeline it to Space, and either ride it or get a fastpass for later, then beeline it to Frontierland. Nobody goes to the left in the mornings.
>>
>>83965825
Oh don't get me wrong, I love Disney shit, it just feels like Universal sticks closer to the tone of their properties than Disney.

That Rebel Spy shit is top tier though, I got picked the first time I ever rode Star Tours.
>tfw Darth Vader considers you a big enough threat to the stability of the Empire that he comes to apprehend you himself

This.
Most things have reasonable efficiency when it comes to getting people through, but Space Mountain is ALWAYS at least an hour wait (considering the docking process is so slow and it's always open, rain or shine, especially now since it's got Star Wars theming).

>>83965466
It's going to replace Splash Mountain I'll bet.

It's fucking stupid Disney still keeps the ride open but doesn't acknowledge the movie a single bit. They hate the Song of the South and everything surronding it now. Splash Mountain is just wildly popular.

The best way to remedy this would be to revamp it to be more Zootopia themed, since it already has a fox and a rabbit. All they'd need to figure out is how the whole "falling down a waterfall" bit is supposed to fit, but that's what sequels are for. Or they could bullshit something completely unrelated to the original film. They've done it before.

The fox and bunny animatronics would be the least of their concerns, the ride itself is too much of a beloved classic to get replaced. They were desperate after missing the train on how ridiculously successful HP land turned out to be, (apparently all Disney pitched to Rowling was a single ride like Toy Story Midway Mania but with wands), in the end it single handedly elevated Universal's parks to Disney levels in terms of attendance and popularity.

Avatar at the time broke every single box office record and appeared to be the most popular movie of all time, nobody thought that every single person that saw it would forget about it a year later.

And in the end everyone is more hype for the upcoming Star Wars lands than about anything Avatar related.

>>83965645

Soon, I think they are still working on the new queue line and entrance but the coaster itself is all back together and doing test runs daily so I would guess it should be back open like the first or 2nd week of July

>>
It looks too rushed.

Good points:
The queue looks cool, at the start it looked tacked on but the middle was nice esp going into the trading post.

Olaf animatronic animation was great. Nice gags with sven the, Esla showstopper was very well done.

Kids will go Bananas for this ride and its not a bad ride but...

The Bad

Its pretty darn obvious its a rush job, good moments but too many dead spots with projection trying to cover it

Still not sold on projection animatronics. Eslas face at the end is painfully color mismatched like a mask. Anna given nothing to do but greet guests. No story but a greatest hits music ride. No changes on the track from Melstrom seems just like a repaint, giant snow monster underwhelming.

In other parks it might be great but this is Disney. and its near embarrassing how rushed this seems to cash in

They could still keep the hotel theme without needing it to be tied to Twilight Zone. They would just need to come up with a new story for the attraction and make a new pre-ride video.
>>
>bitching about projecting cams

Looks good inperson, and it allows them to allocate the budget spent on facial animations on actual set design and such.

Fucks sake, Skull Island is just a bunch of fucking video screens and a giant monkey head because they blew it all on the head.

Very true. Which reminds me, Tokyo Disneyland's Tower of Terror is not linked to Twilight Zone and is an original Disney imagineered story so they could just replicate that.

And Disney's done that before with the Tokyo version of the ride and funnily enough, their version would be a better Twilight Zone story then the regular version.

A robber-baron/asshole treasure-hunter becoming the plaything to one of the things they pilfered is the sort of karmic twist stuff that'd work great on the Twilight Zone

The rde is essentially another celebration of Princess Anna & the only noteworthy thing she did in her life.

>>

Pretty much. If Disney is to build another resort then it should be in South America to keep the scum out of WDW. I hate the annoying Brazillian tour groups.
>>
>>83971086
Problem is that they don't know what the fuck to do with Elsa other than "let if go" and show that she loves her sister.
>>
>>83971132
BR is one of their biggest international tourist demographics. They rely on that money. The Rio Olympics leadup is actually hurting WDW's attendance this year.
>>
>>83958675
This ride looks better than the movie.
>>
>>83971086
Except the whole ride is about "Let's go up to Elsa's Castle to hear her sing her one song". Anna and Kristoff are pretty much just there to introduce the main act and once you get out of the Let It Go scene, the ride goes flaccid.

Frozen Ever After is basically an Elsa Meet and Greet experience in ride form
>>
>clapping after the ride finishes

why

also, I'd be pretty pissed if I waited 3 hours to ride this.
>>
>>83971279
>the ride goes flaccid after the backwards bit

Maelstrom was the exact same fucking thing.

Marshmallow and some fireworks are better than a fucking oil rig and a polar bear.
>>
>>83969893
PROTIP: if you have a Menchie's Frozen Yogurt in your area, you can get Dole Whip whenever you want. I know it doesn't come with the atmosphere, but being able to get the real deal Dole Whip goes a long way when you can't get to the parks or live too far away from them.
>>
>>83971279
it was pretty funny how she threw the riders out of her castle while singing for no good reason.

>>83971343
Maelstrom pre-backwards bit >>>>>>>> Frozen pre-backwards bit.

Objectively, Maelstrom is significantly better because of the badass troll designs and spooky shit. Sure, it fell flat towards the end, but at least it wasn't as annoying, nor as much of a blatant cash grab.
>>
>>83968620
It was fine. Just grow some balls dude.

It's people like you complaining that we lost a pretty nice attraction.

The pre-show was funny as hell too.
>>
>>83971343
Polar bear and the "DOWN TO THE NORTH SEA" troll were fine. Oil Rig was pointless though.

But the thing with the Frozen Ride is that it's pretty much exclusively about hearing Let it Go and then it doesn't really know what to do after that so you get a really awkward performance of In Summer because they forgot to shoehorn it in elsewhere and doing it in front of a set that looks just like the meet and greet next door that Disney wants you to spend more money at. And the fireworks is just shit they stole from Mexico next door
>>
>>83971184
Disney needs to show Queen Elsa as more than just an ice witch & person to entertain Princess Anna. Like, show Elsa's perfectionist side by having her hone a talent or have Elsa explore the origins of her powers.

Opens in 2017. Guests step right into Studio 6B where Jimmy will challenge them. Disney's been actively shilling him in merchandising and he's starred in two Marvel comic book miniseries that have been the best-selling books in Marvel's Disney theme park line. He's been a fixture of D23 events for the last few years with consistent standing ovations whenever he appears.

I have some friends that go pretty often that are vegan. They say Disney is pretty accommodating to their dietary restriction, but at a lot of places they are restricted to just one menu option. Which they say is usually tasty, but makes going back to the same restaurant kind of boring. So, depending on your allergy, pretty much every restaurant will try to have at least one thing that you can do or one thing they can do for you, it just might be a plain boring salad or something in some cases, though. What allergy do you have anyway?

Jim Hill Media explained the whole thing. Yes his record is streaky but this sounds legit. The DCA one was a permanent change and would mark the beginning of Marvel land there.

The DHS one would be for a limited time, a response to complaints that WDW doesn't get Haunted Mansion Holiday and other temporary attractions. It would last until Infinity War, where the GOTG would team up with the Avengers, thus making them included in the Universal deal. Disney never had a chance to fully explain their plan before the backlash began and they abandoned the idea.

There was proper signage, but it's not like they went for a midnight dip; at most they were dipping their feet (on a beach where that's likely allowed, since there's no fence and they host movie nights there).

Speaking from experience in Epcot:

If this means all the fuckin kids will be in line for this dumb shit while I try to enjoy Mexico or Spaceship Earth?

That's fine by me.

Hell, if Disneyworld decides to sacrifice a few rides in each "zone" (even if they pick the best rides, FUCK NORWAY was rad though) to suck up all the children so I can enjoy some rides from my chidhood? I will gladly make that sacrifice.

As long as they don't touch the actual classics, like Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, or...

Uh...

Fuck, I guess they've closed most rides I remember from my childhood.

... Fuck.

>You'll never be a kid in Disney World in the late 90's again, when Epcot had terrible Dreamcast demos and you screamed at your family whey they said you couldn't wait in line to play them

>Indulge in snacks/souvenirs you weren't allowed as a kid
>Fuck it, ride Space Mountain 3 times if you want
>Stay in the parks after midnight, enjoy the peace and quiet now that the youth groups are gone
>Get wasted and lose yourself in the gorgeous theming
>Checking the qt3.14 princesses

But it's also a place where adults can be kids, and that's a million times more valuable to the individual.

The Cinderella castle is kind of an iconic part of the park and prime for photo-ops. If the time you go there and it's not there but you've got a giant cake that you can't instead, that's gonna suck.

Hell I was getting annoyed that I can never go to the Haunted Mansion because I always seem to go when it's either putting up or putting away the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff
>>
I wish we had a theme park as atmospheric as Disney here in Canada. Wonderland is cool, but it was never really immersive, even when it had the Paramount licensing
>>
>>83965308
Actually, the improv comedy started within about a year of the park opening.
>>

I have definitely been on Space Mountain multiple times with a zero minute wait.
>>
Can we please talk about how much fucking bullshit it is that Shanghai HAS A FUCKING TRON LIGHT CYCLE RIDE?!?!

I am so fuckin pissed because they probably will never do that shit here in Orlando because fucking test track is basically the same god damn theme. You bet I am fucking mad. I am mad as hell because I don't want to go to Ching Chong Bing Bong land to go fucking ride it.
>>

Same even in the summer. Go at night when the parade and fireworks are happening and there will be no line at all.
>>
>>83976692
Disney mascot characters are fucking awesome. The best experiences I've ever had in the parks or cruise ships involved them.

>>83977772
There's also a lot of people who only get to visit the park once in their lives. It really would fucking suck if the only time you got to see the castle in your entire life is when it's a stupid looking cake. Thankfully, they can do projections on the castle now so there's no reason for them to do shit like that anymore.

I'm hitting Orlando in two weeks. What are the top five things to see while I'm there?

Same. It looks so fucking cool and I bet they have a ton of Tron merch.

>4th of July weekend
Endless crowds and unbearable heat
>>

I have to admit you're pretty spot on there. Hell, some of the best shit to happen to me at the parks happened when I went solo as an adult.

>Riding Splash Mountain with Tweedle-Dum
>Line shenanigans with Alice and the Mad Hatter the day they reopened Star Tours
>Riding Space Mountain twice in a row w/o leaving the car

Going as a kid is one thing, but there's just something about going as an adult that makes it a whole new enjoyable experience.

I rode it and its not that great, its worse than space mountain.
>>
>>83983262

Really? That is dissapointing...
>>
>>83982857
Fabulous. Can I sneak in outside food and drink, at least? Even water bottles and a sandwich would help.
>>
>>83983349
A fw videos have gone up so there's a substantial look at it now. The beginning section of the track is partially outside the Tron-inspired landscape of epilepsy-inducing strobe effects, so for about a fourth or fifth of the ride you're experiencing something kind of mundane. To be fair it looks far more impressive at night. The rest looks intense for a Disney coaster, just unbelievably short. Like 100 seconds. It's a better service to the film series than shit like elecTRONica, but I'm still annoyed it's relegated to a park outside America.

Yep. They can't put hard limits on that stuff due to guests with food allergies or medical conditions such as diabetes. Bring all the crap you want, just as long as you can stuff it in a backpack or insulated bag you should be fine. If you run out of water you can always go to a restaurant or other dining area for unlimited refills, though I've heard for a long time that the water in Orlando has a strange taste. Also, bring those freezer gel packs. As many as you can. The first time I went to Disneyland I thought a single freezer pack and the cold emanating from my bottles of frozen water would be enough. That shit went liquid before noon.

Yeah I guess I am just frustrated when riding Test track and I can't help but sit there and wonder why they didn't take the extra step and just make it tron themed. Shit they could just replace the cars with cycles and such or something. Its already really close
>>
>>83984678
Personally I want something involving the solar sailor or recognizer, but given their massive size they'd have to be a tracked ride going through set-pieces. And that's just not exciting enough.

absolutely disgusting

>retarded space superhero theming
>Tower of Terror
Please tell me this is some kind of joke on renovations and changes, and not a thing that's gonna happen.
>>
>>83985447
If I were one of the guys that worked on making the ride and I saw the video where everyone clapped at the end, I think it'd make me feel pretty damn good. Just sayin.
>>
>>83984083
They didn't have any problem with outside food and drinks last time I was there so by all means, pack a water bottle and some snacks. Every restroom in each park has a water fountain near it where you can refill your bottles. They do sell bagged snacks at the hotels but you can probably find the same stuff at a gas station or a publix for cheaper.

It's because when you're a kid, you're just at Disney World, and it's fun.
You don't have the perspective to understand how valuable childhood memories are at that age.

When you get older, you appreciate everything a million times more.
>>
>>83985447
To be fair, that was one of the first rides; the thing literally just opened, so it was a bit of an event.
>>
>>83968211
Yeah, the rides brighter now, so it's not scary at all.

I guess too many kids were crying.

It's going to be redone into something themed around The Collector and his menagerie of barely movie-related shit. I've never been to the Orlando park. I'm upset.
>>
>>83986188
Orlando is safe. It's the California one that is getting rethemed
>>
>>83958675
I just took my daughter. She enjoyed it. It wasnt terrible either, it gives kids more to do at disney

But it limits their futures anon.
