avocado
bacon
needlessly dipping things in chocolate
gluten-free

commercial "coffee" that's 90% cream and aspartame
coffee, in general
tea-drinkers who feel superior to coffee drinkers

putting cheese in every god damned thing
meatheads who package tupperwares full of boiled broccoli, rice, and chicken

This is true if they see the dish as foreign, and they see ramen as Chinese in origin. So they'll get as crazy with it as they will pizza. But they get awfully conservative when it comes to dishes they see as Japanese. You won't fins anyone in Japan fucking with soba they way they fuck with ramen.

I work at a famer's market, and at it there's a booth where a different chef makes something or other every week. Now, since it's being cooked at a market I am a little lenient with my expectations on originality, but there is one fucking chef who cooks literally nothing but Shakshuka every single time he comes. He's there at least once a month cooking the same boring meal every single time; honestly it's pretty embarrassing. I've never seen any other repeat chefs do this, likely because they're not uninspired hacks.

have you had a good cali burrito? with really crispy carnitas, whole beans, flavorful rice, no sour cream or cheese, with pico de gallo and guacamole, and hot sauce? its really quite good.
>>
>>7783584
old school burrito: tiny, rice beans cheese, or beans with meat. cali, or mission burrito: mexican rice (not plain white), whole beans, carnitas, carne asada, chile verde or lengua, pico de gallo, sour cream and cheese OPTIONAL, guacamole, with a nice hot pureed fresh hot sauce to drizzle on it as you eat, like a tatemata or tomatillo. best if the tortilla is grilled not steamed. then theres what i call a ghetto burrito: 2 pounds of flavorless white rice, refried beans, hamburger meat, huge glops of cheddar cheese and sour cream, served from behind a metal grating and plexiglass. id rather witness a driveby than eat one of those.
>>
>>7785618
Agreed. A turkey sandwich made from actual leftover roast turkey is good. But that's not what you get in most situations when you order a turkey sandwich, is it? And by the same token:
>>7785623
That sounds better, but again it is not the standard one finds when looking for burritos. Even in Cali. Lived in LA for half a year and SF for a month. What you're describing is not what most folks seem to consider a proper burrito. It almost always leans toward overkill.
