Who's ready to join me for a little oven jerky?
First time doing it, but I'm feeling pretty confident.
Posting live from the kitchen.
It's going to be a jalapeño carne asana jerky. Taking the tops right off the jalapeño, add all my seasonings and liquids to the blender until blended to hopeful perfection and marinate them for about an hour.
Wine's for me though. Been a long week.
I made some oven jerky too, Chicago style.
>>7695276
I'm sure it will turn out delicious.
I've made oven jerky many times, just don't overdo it
All blended up. Man this stuff have some kick. Really hoping a good deal of it stays with the meat.
>>7695330
Overdo how? Over cook?
Just under 2lbs of carne asada.
Opposed to buying a more choice steak and thin cutting it myself I went with the already thin cut carne asada. Should come out fine I would imagine.. I mean, I've seen carne asada jerky in stores, so why not?
carne asada isn't a cut of meat
This looks promosing, OP. Never made jerky but I want to so I'll be following closely
>>7695348
Yeah I'm aware it's not, and I didn't mean it the way you thought I did.
Alright, meats all sauced up. Into the fridge for the next hour. See you all then. Gonna make a burger for dinner until it's ready to go.
>>7695365
word, looking good, keep it up
also, more kitten pictures please
>>7695368
Guess I could post the burger until the marinate is done.
Simple stuff. Cook the meat, add the cheese, load it up.
Got one of these onion savers the other day on a 'fuck it' whim. Guess I get to see if it actually works.
Cut me up a little fresh romain
>>7695378
Extra lean?
What's wrong with good old 80/20?
All sliced up. I'll toss the stock in my compost bin for my little balcony garden which I may get a picture of. Nothing special really just some herbs and peppers that are starting to sprout.
>>7695400
Absolutely nothing. In fact I'd prefer the less lean meat, but I bought what was cheapest because I'm trying to save some cash.
Tomatoes were crazy cheap today, 99 cents a pound.
Tomato, check.
And we're a go for glass #2.
>>7695401
>not eating based romaine ribs
>2006+10
Interestingly enough I read an article the other day where it turns out people can't tell cheap wine from expensive wine in a blind taste test. They even went so far as to add a chemical to an expensive wine to make it taste bad and lifted the blind. When the tasters were told the bad tasting one was more expensive, they choose the expensive one as the better tasting every time.
I'll stick with my cheapo $4 bottles, thanks.
>>7695445
I've heard similar stories, reminds me of that tale of Charlie Chaplin winning third place in a Charlie Chaplin lookalike contest.
>>7695440
I mean there's nothing wrong with them, it's just a tougher piece of the leaf. I just don't prefer them on my burgers. Salad, no problem.. I just don't want to have a difficult time eating my burger trying to break the lead from the rib. It's going to my compost anyway, so it's not being entirely wastes.
Meat time.
>>7695456
Wines kicking in, that gave me a harty chuckle.
Shaping my burger; little salt and generous pepper.
Pans warming up. I'll sauté the onion first then get the meat on.
And there she goes.
Love the smell of sautéed onion.
We're about 25 minutes away from the carne asada being ready for jerking.
Burger time.
Trick is to just let the meat sit without pressing or touching it.
Número three
And about time.
Doing this in real time is difficult.
>>7695518
Keep going anon, I'm here.
>>7695519
Perfect.
>>7695520
What oil did you use in the pan?
>>7695319
youre not as funny as you think you are
Only touched it once, which was to flip it.
It's burger time!
>>7695518
im here too anon
there have been a pleasant amount of cook alongs recently
>>7695522
No oil, non stick.
The fat is fat, literally.
Bun time.
Holy hell you guys almost made me forget cheese
>>7695530
Interesting, that's a decent amount of fat. Do you intentionally do the onions dry then? There is a sizeable amount of fat in the pan, maybe you use use that fat for the onions next time.
Time to plate
>>7695539
Yeah I like to do my onions dry because you actually get the caramelization factor instead of it being bathed in oil which basically just boils the damn thing.
Lettuce first so the bun doesn't get soggy.
>>7695545
Might try that next time then.
Then burger
Lookin' good.
You didn't toast the bread?
Onion next.
Onion before tomato because the tomato is juice. It can slide around and fall out of your burger if it's on slick surfaces like cheese, tomato, then onion. Tomato always belongs on top so the surface area of the bread will cause tension keeping your tomato in place.
>>7695556
I might if this third glass wasn't fucking me up and I need to eat asap or I'm going to go straight to fucking sleep, wine does that to me.
I recently discovered I actually like pickles. So I'm adding pickles.
Didn't used to like them. Now I do. Crazy what time does to ones palate.
>>7695564
What kind of pickles are they?
Tomato
And guess what, were 4 minutes from the carne asada being ready for jerk land!
Images with trees.
>>7695565
Apparently they're "fill fast food chips". I really like Kroger brand shit, but putting fast food in the name of this type of pickle was stupid as shit. Kroger, what the hell were you thinking?
Top bun to finish it off.
Glass #4 and the bottle is done.
Why didn't I just buy a cheap bottle of whisky instead?
So give me like 5 minutes to eat this burger.
I'll take a few pictures of my balcony garden before the sun is completely gone.
Then I'll continue with this oven jerky.
>>7695510
>not using a grill
but seriously good thread op
>>7695589
I had a grill but actually tossed it to make room for my balcony garden. It's tough shit not owning a house, but I make do with this dinky little apartment.
Money shot.
Alright, balcony garden time so we can get back to this jerky.
Bibb lettuce just sprouted.
So did my Swiss chard
Still waiting on my tender green beans, they're about one week away.
This burger so tasty.
Here's my beer herb garden.
Thyme doing extremely well.
Basil just sprouted its first true leaves.
Oregano is taking fucking forever.
So is my Rosemary, but whatever it'll come in when it comes in.
Roma tomatoes doing fantastic, going to transplant them to an upside down hanging planter in another two or so weeks.
The green thing has chili peppers my coworker gave me seeds for. No clue what kind they are, but the peppers have amazing flavor and are hot as hell. I can make use of them in several dishes.
>>7695598
>no plate
Must be nice living a bachelor life. Looks good though, congrats.
Here's my cilantro and Italian parsley starting to sprout.
My cayenne peppers also sprouted today too. Still waiting on my red bell pepper, jalapeño and habanero. This fucking weather has been killing me; cold and not sunny so they're not germinating as fast as if like them to
You know you're drunk when you just mind tell your body to take you somewhere and chill in your mind.
>>7695627
west cost op?
>>7695619
Brother you don't even know. I just turned down a chick the other week because I'm focusing on myself right now. I don't need that in my life, things are amazing right now for me. A woman would only ruin what I have going.
Last picture before we get going on this jerky. Some kind of cactus, brussel sprouts with thyme on either side, chives and mint.
Let's jerky this night up.
>>7695630
Yeah boy, living the good life in San Diego
Give me a minute to leak and we'll get this jerky started
Really digging the garden, almost makes me want to start one for myself. How's the upkeep?
>>7695609
RIP
thought I had my thread trip on guess not, drinking, who cares. Let's jerky.
>>7695658
That's not my trip.
I'll fix t later.
Drinking.
Jerky time.
>>7695662
>>7695662
Eat some raw
>>7695640
Upkeep is very minimal.
I water every 2-3 days, that's it.
It's still early though, things are still growing. Later on I may need to look at bigger pots.
Wow o just barely had enough rack space for this.
175 F for 3.5 hours guys
I'll take questions now until we wait.
May actually run across the street too and get some more drinks. This is a good buzz. I want to keep it going.
>>7695681
Cook something else while you wait please.
>>7695558
*friction but you're all sauced up so I'll let it slide.
This time.
>>7695688
I'm also posting from my phone, it may have been auto correct.
>>7695686
Man I ain't got nothing else to cook but this thing, and I was planning to save it for tomorrow night!
I guess I can show you guys the booze isle at my local Rite Aid, and you can help me pick out what I should drink for the rest of the night...
>>7695702
Alright I'm heading over
You guys got to be on the ball with what you want me to drink tonight, because I don't want to stand in the fucking isle looking at my phone like a fucking dope or some shit.
Seriously, refresh this shit like your life depended on it or I'm just going to buy another bottle of wine and come home.
I'm serious.
>>7695725
I vote chocolate wine.
Shitty elevator
Oh man you guys totally coming with me
Let's head out
Captcha images with cars, how appropriate. Though I do own a truck...
What a nice night for a drive
Ugh traffic
>>7695725
Do you have a preference? (Vodka, whiskey, etc.,)
Someone left their beer on the ground
Who the fuck does that??
Interactive shitposting
>>7695758
I'm a rum man myself, but I'll still drink whisky. I've started on wine so I wouldn't be opposed to making it a wine night.
>>7695762
This isn't shit posting. This is a journey into the life of a home chef.
Also, we're here.
>>7695761
>Modelo
>In San Diego
I'll give you one guess
>pic semi-related
First section of the isle.
Let's make the fast.
Second section coming up.
And that's the end of the hard liquor isle.
I'll move onto the wine isle if something isn't chosen in the next minute.
I just saw one of my apartment neighbors in here. Super awkward. The guy is an aging hippy and grows opium openly next to his apartment. Still a cool guy I guess, gave me some fishing rod stands so can't be all bad.
The wine.
Let's hurry this up.
Only 2.5 hours until the jerky is done.
>>7695786
Where are you OP?
Are you being harassed by security who is concerned with the grand level of autism you are displaying by taking pictures outside and inside of Rite Aid?
>>7695790
I don't know enough about hard liquor to help sorry.
>>7695790
drink a whole bottle of fireball
>>7695790
Midnight Moon is the only acceptable answer
Wild Turkey 101 is 2nd
>>7695792
Get a Cabernet sauvignon, goes well with what you are cooking.
>>7695754
So you're driving after a bottle of wine?
Not cool bro, not cool.
>>7695796
Lol no I've done that and it wasn't fun
Alright fuck it were going with rum. This is getting awkward.
>>7695804
You gotta get the Midnight Moon, OP
Step outside your comfort zone, and live a little
>>7695809
Where is it I didn't see it???
found it
Oh man feel like I'm going to get wasted tonight
>>7695814
Next to the Wild Turkey 101
>>7695824
OP is based this lovely evening.
I'm gonna drink along with you this evening.
I'll begin shortly
>>7695830
Thank you friend, it's a great Friday night for sure. In a long ass line waiting to check out now.
>>7695824
op i feel like im right there with you
Well there's the damage
Rite Aid confuses me sometimes. There are not more everywhere, but the chick in front of me only bought 3 cups of instant ramen, 2 bottles of detergent, a tooth brush and a pack of dish cleaning sponges.
What a world...
Let's get back home and check on the jerky. It'll be done at 11pm PST and the current time is 8:50pm PST.
>>7695849
>not more
was meant to be normies
Anyway, back home we go
>>7695632
Makes sense with the sprouts package and saying carne asada.
>>7695860
I have both of those here in Houston.
This place is pretty good by the way
Now the hellish search de parking begins...
>>7695866
Eh, still. I don't hear much about it outside of San Diego.
>>7695869
Your apartment didn't come with a parking spot or are they assholes that charge per month for a spot?
Home, finally.
The cat says hello.
>>7695888
No dog?
>>7695888
Post full cat photo
>>7695886
It did... It's just were over crowded as shit and the only spaces are ones you have to pay extra for. Thanks non-established rent controlled California, you faggots.
Fuck it though, it's Friday. Let's just pour ourselves a drink and check on the jerky.
>op crashes the car
>with evidence in hand that he was drinking and posting on 4chan
Say hi to Lexplorer when you're both getting fisted by Wesley Snipes
>>7695892
I wish I had a dog to be honest, but I can't leave helpless guys like this on the street.
>>7695895
This little guy I found outside my apartment damn near half starved with a broken paw. He's kind of weird, likes to stay on my washer and dryer all the time and rarely gets off.
Well let's make us a drink and check on the jerky
>>7695903
Cat jerky?
1/3 moonshine and 2/3 coke sound good?
>>7695912
No way man, cow jerky. This isn't some third world country, even though I live about 10 miles from Mexico. God damn.
>>7695903
Hella kawaii
>op actually posting fucking oc
>people not being massive shitposting faggots ITT
Holy fuck it's like seeing a rainbow or some shit right now.
>>7695908
that moonshine any good? i like these threads OP. i might post a cook along tomorrow of thom yum soup and curry im making
>>7695915
Nice cup
>>7695445
the only way wine tastes different to me, is if its made from completely different grapes, or is like Egri Bikavér, or Tokaji or something.
Anyway, meat still looking moist.
Still about 1 hour and 20 minutes in the timer. Guess I'll just chill out and browse /ck/ talking with you guys.
>>7695896
Yeah rent in California is brutal. There's a site that helps with giving you info for fighting landlords in a pinch. They'll even have someone call you to talk you through it.
Is your own gas or electric?
Forgot jerky pic
>>7695919
It's got kind of a cinnamon spice to it, but much weaker than fireball. I can tolerate this pretty good I think. Only 35% alcohol too. It's not bad, but it's not great.... it's... drinkable...
>>7695928
Looks a little moist m8
>>7695931
Just how I like my women.
>>7695928
Smell good?
>>7695790
Those prices. If I ever go to America i'll probably get smashed.
>>7695937
Smells amazing. If it tastes anything like the marinade I made this is going to be some fantastic jerky. Can't wait until it gets done. Quite note about this jerky: the particular recipe I'm using actually called for me to dry the jerky after it came out of the marinade. I didn't. I prefer my jerky a little more moist than dry, so I'm hoping not drying it off after taking it out of the marinade helps it retain some of its moisture.
>>7695939
Our booze is cheap. Maybe not the best... but cheap.
I meant pull the cat off
>>7695945
I'm from Australia btw. This is one of the cheaper bottleshops in my area https://www.danmurphys.com.au/dm/home.jsp
>>7695949
Do what now?
>>7695951
You poor, poor soul...
>>7695945
I'm with ya there. I like moist jerky too. I'm pretty jealous. I'd like to try some.
Could be there in 15 though lolol
Making snacks for the week is the best.
>>7695957
(You) have any recommendations on Whiskey/Bourbon? I usually just get a bottle of Jameson or Wild Turkey.
>>7695945
Speak for yourself, based OP
Utahfag reporting in and that shine you just bought costs about $35 at the State Liquor Store
>>7695953
Give him the ol' rum tum tugger
>>7695928
This makes me want to make pemmican.
I do not know why.
>>7695962
Not OP, but Makers Mark and Bushmills are some of my favorites
>>7695962
Whiskey sour. If it's not a rum and coke, it's a whiskey sour for me. My step-mom owned a bar for nearly a decade so I got a ton of free drinks, some I couldn't even begin to remember they were so over-the-top stupid complex. Simple is best, friend.
>>7695958
I'm hoping this jerky will last the week, but my little brother has been cashing at my pad for the last few months until he can save enough to get back on his feet, and the diabetic fucker eats food at an amazing rate. It'll probably be gone in 2-3 days.
>>7695971
Markers Mark 700ml - $41.95
Bushmills - $49.99
Bushmills 10 Year - $59.99
>>7695973
I'll give Whiskey sour a try sometime then.
>>7695980
Holy shit. Are those straya prices?
They're expensive, but not that expensive in Utah
>>7695987
I like old fashioneds a lot but it takes a bit more prep work
>>7695987
It's great, except i've tried ordering it at a place, and the waitress looked at me, and didn't know what i was talking about, eventualy she said oh a Jack sour?
Fuck sakes.
>>7695973
Dude that sucks for your brother. He could do some telecommute jobs for Amazon. That shit helps.
>>7696017
Yeah they are. I guess its why alot of people mainly drink beer.
>>7696028
When I'm poorfaggin there's actually a go-to thats dirt fucking cheap
>Rich & Rare
>Canadian whiskey
>$18 for a 1.75 large bottle in Utah (meaning that it's probably $12 in other states)
Just mix it with coke or Dr. Pepper and you're all set. It's worth checking out
>>7695524
kek
>>7696038
Dr. Pepper is quite rare in Australia. Also if you want to see our prices https://www.danmurphys.com.au/dm/home.jsp Dan Murphys is one of the cheapest bottleshops in my area.
OP you should make some salsa!
>>7696050
Your beer is the same or cheaper than it is in our state liquor stores
What about Fosters? Is it cheap there?
Also, pic related makes me want to move to straya
>>7696056
Next time
>>7696061
>Fosters
No one actually drinks Fosters (didn't know it existed till I saw it mentioned online). Only really seen people drink XXXX/Gold/Bitter, VB, Tooheys, and Carlton.
We're looking a little more dry. Just took and end piece and holy fuck is it tasty. This stuff is going to be crazy good when done.
>>7696061
Not sure if its cheap. A few online articles reckon its one of the more expensive places to purchase beer. I ended up getting a XXXX Gold stubby for $5 or just under which isn't really cheap, better off buying a pack or carton.
>>7696090

that doesn't prove anything though
a majority of the people in the world would rather listen to Justin Bieber over Mozart but that doesn't mean Mozart is shit music
People who cite this "experiment" just strike me as sadly moronic plebeians who think they're lifting the veil on anything but their own stupidity.
>>7695445
Yeah, generally true. In terms of flavor, some of them will have different autistic spices or something added, but generally just above bottom shelf and top shelf wine of the same type is pretty much exactly the same.
>>7695504
first of all that's not the correct usage of the word "saute"
second of all you should probably stop using metal utensils on your nonstick pan

>>7695965
The only time I visited a Utah liquor store, it was utterly depressing. It felt like I stepped into some post-apocalyptic scenario: bare shelves only holding a few bottles; extremely limited selection; ridiculous prices and the employees all looked like they hated being there. Even the lighting was dim and oppressive. Are they all like this?
>>7696090
Obnoxiously picking all the post numbers 0/10.
>>7696092
How was the burger? Good?
>>7696157
Very tasty. Some ground beef left over so probably make me another one tomorrow. Still have that pork shoulder butt in the fridge, may make another thread when I find the best way to cook her up.
Well, it's 11. Things are looking good--and tasting very good--but I think it'll need at least another hour still. Leaving the marinade on the meat, it still being moist, seems to prolong the cook time. 4 hours wet, 3 hours dry it's looking like. Hot damn if it doesn't take like the jerky you buy at the store though. Surprised even myself. This may turn into a regular thing for me considering it's so much cheaper than actually buying jerky.
>>7696150
Maybe they used to be, but their selection is solid now.
The prices are still shit though.
>>7696183

Do all vegetables come with that warning police tape around them in America?
>>7697432
They wouldn't want to accidentally eat a vegetable.
>>7697432
I believe it's mandatory, a flyover mother accidentally fed kale to her infant toddler the poor child grew up to be a delusional elitist college boy. It took a constitutional amendment to make it legal to truthfully label food for this one condition, but since vegetables are only sold by licensed hippy co-ops it was not thought to set any dangerous precedents.
>>7697388
Plebs being plebs. The only way they can deal with themselves is to claim superiority over less populated areas.
>>7697388
Food cartels such as ADM and Cargill made it illegal to accurately label food in the USA, it's considered anti-business and consumers might make wrong choices left to their own devices. Can you imagine if the sheeple had full information on their food? They'd demand better and we can't be having that. The planet cannot sustain this many people without force feeding everyone heavily adulterated GMO trashfood that purports to be something that it isn't. Facts are feelings anyway, the Kraft corporation told me so when I asked where Parma is.
>>7697432
it's to mark it as the 'organic variety' for cashier to properly ring it up.
