Those are a few places that I like. Also Cajun Stop in east downtown as the best po boys I have tasted while living in Houston.

I am going to be working near the Texas Medical Centre in February - is there anywhere good to eat and drink around there.?

Rudy's BBQ in Spring.

Is there a Houston location? Google only shows a Hawaii location
>>
Native houstonian here. You gotta get beaner food and gook food while you're in Houston.

Laredo Taqueria on Washington ave. bomb ass 'cos and menudo. Always Mexicans lined up at the door to get in.

Pho dahn on FM 1960 and fallbrook across from the car dealership. Only sells pho and noodle related dishes. (So no goi cuong or com dishes)

Eat some dim sum at Hong Kong market on bellaire
>>
>>7268174

Killens is far better for BBQ than Gatlins. The only bad thing is it's all the way in Pearland, but trust me it's worth it.

Also I fucking love Liberty Kitchen, best brunch in the whole city IMO.

I'll add some of my favorites:

Down House
B&B Butchers
Uchi
BRC
Revival Market
Mais
Onion Creek/Ceder Creek/Canyon Creek/Dry Creek
Lola's

>Lola's

Best basic breakfast in town. I frequent Shepherd Park quite a bit which is owned by the same guy.

I live in the Oak Forest/Heights area so Gatlin's is super close for BBQ. But it feels like now they are trying to be like Franklin's.
>>
>>7268524
Lol I figured you lived in the area based on the restaurants you listed. I live in the heights myself as well. I like Shepard park too, In fact I love all of Ken's restaurants. Have you tried republic diner that he just opened? It's where witchcraft used to be. It's pretty good.
>>
>>7268561
I go to the Kroger's right by Witchcraft and didn't realize it closed down. I'm off tomorrow so might have to go check it out.
>>
Gyros Wings at West Oak Mall, best fucking Gyro on the planet.

Also all the Gook, Nigger and Mexican food places are not all cracked up to be as this """"""Houstonians"""""" claim to be. Don't let the Louisiana refugees and Mexicans taint your view of my fair city.
>>
>>7269693

La Carafe is a neat little creepy bar and I think its the oldest establishment in houston
Alicia's Mex Restaurant makes the best margaritas ive had
Mambos
The Shack out towards Cypress has great burgers
Mels Cafe in tomball
Pappadeuxs
Napoli's Pizza off Grant rd
tons of good taco trucks and vietnamese places

Bubba's Burger Shack. Holy fucking shit, those are the best burgers I've ever had in my life.
>>
>>7272239
For burgers in Houston, I really like Bernies burger bus. I heard they got a brick and mortar store front but I still haven't been. Also try Hubcap grill and Stanton city bites. Also Lankford Grocery (weird name, great burgers) is an institution. They've been on an episode of diners drive ins and dives.
>>

yes yes yes, Bernies and Hubcap are excellent. Also Lankford.

My vote for best place is Moon Tower Inn in the near east side. It's pretty hipster but amazing burgers and wild game sausage hotdogs.

Have you ever had Bowl Cafe? They have a really good potroast sandwich, and the salads are really good.
>>
>>7273135
Yes but I don't remember it. It was a hangover meal. There were lots of good places around there. House of Pies, Brown Bag Deli, Barnaby's, Beck's Prime, 59 Diner, yadda yadda.
>>
>>7273143
Ever had Irma's downtown by minute maid park? Mole chicken enchiladas are amazing, and the strawberry lemonade is good too, super expensive
>>
Also the best place to eat at night used to be Ruchi's Taqeria on Shephard and West Alabama but they closed it, demolished it and built another CVS even though theres another one a mile away. That place was wild as fuck at night, 24/7. And the food was good, and if you knew somebody who worked there they'd give you coffee mugs full of liqour after 2 a.m. as long as you didn't get out of hand and tipped well. Also the taco truck on West Alabama by the icehouse made the best tacos in town, if you don't believe me then go try it.
>>
>>7273095

Has anyone eaten at Karbach since they opened the restaurant with the expansion. I am thinking about going today.
>>
Moved out of Houston 6 months ago for my job but I swear I ordered Chinese delivery from this family-owned joint called "New Yang" near Richmond and like Gessner every fucking day for 4 years.

Their shit was fresh as fuck and portions were huge but their shop is ghetto cause they are in the heart of niggerville. They took orders online to which was fucking weird
>>
>>7268155

YO. I was just there yesterday.
>>
India Cuisine by Nasa is 10/10 in the evenings. Had the best Vindaloo of my life there.

Also Thai Stellar, which is nearby. It's run by Thai peeps, so the chefs aren't just some fucking Mexicans following a cookbook.

There's Yummy's Mongolian Stir Fry right by where I live, shit's like a 4 min drive from my house. It's a lot like Ghengis Grill, but better.

Tradicao on Bay Area Blvd is expensive as fuck, but it's badass. It's a Brazilian steakhouse where you get a card with a red or green side. Dudes go around with amazing meats and if your card is green on your table they stop and carve some off onto your plate. It's endless meats of all kinds, until you're ready to burst.

>>
>>7266405
The Ruth's Chris on Westheimer was fantastic last time I went, but be prepared to drop a few hundred.

There's a mexican lady in a gas station right around pic related on Westheimer/Wilcrest that makes fantastic tacos.

Ekko's Greek Deli is in a few places, very good gyros.

The Original Marini's Empanada House is a nice little hole in the wall that has all sorts of hot tea and great empanadas.
>>
>>7274012

Mai's is a shit. It's only good when it's the only place still open and you're drunk and hungry.
Best pho is pho Saigon on Milam.
Now I will name some of my favorites:
Gyu Kaku
Pass and Provisions
Reef
Barnaby's
Torchy's
Shepard Park has really good hot wings
Jinya
Fat Bao
Chickfila
Pic rel8ed is Gyu-kaku. Probably my favorite atm.
>>
>>7274538
pic looks pretentious as fuck

Texas is about the comfort food, large portions, the MEAT, and fuck-you-here-cayenne spices.

That being said, I'd like to try that place.

Can confirm that Jinya is great.
>>
>>7274567
It's called plating you fucking pleb. Also when you said large portions you reminded me of this Mexican restaurant called Teotihican. Best tex-mex in Htown

Amazon Cafe
Empire Cafe

Grande Lux Cafe
Breakfast Klub
>>
Visited Houston last year, whole place had a ghetto vibe to it. Friend told me they took in a lot of the Katrina refugees.

Never going there again.
>>
>>7286192
Where did you stay and what parts did you visit? There are big parts full of thugs and Katrina niggers but you'd probably never see them unless you get really really lost or are visiting someone there. The city is really fucking big and spread out but almost no good restaurants, bars, shops, or attractions are in really bad areas. Maybe you accidentally went through third ward, I can see that happening. It's right next to downtown and U of h is right in the middle of it.
>>
Breakfast Klub
Peli Peli
Pappas Steakhouse
Hugo's
Aladdin's
Caracol
Masraffs
Barnabys
Thai Cottage
Oishii
Luigis
El Real

And a few food trucks(Koagie, Foreign Policy, burger bus etc)
>>
>>7273154
Breakfast is Klub is super fucking overrated. It's not bad, but it's not good enough to warrant the wait, or the staff's rude indifference to all the customers.

I fucking love Oishii though. Very underrated sushi joint that's actually pretty cheap.
>>

>>
>>7273095
kingwood here, sup

i just moved back from fort worth and man i realize how bland this area is now, what a shitty void of basically everything.
>>
>>7286935

A lot of the places mentioned in thread are good.

Lola's has good chicken and waffles, but it's not traditional. There's fruit on the waffles and it's a fried chicken breast, not bone in. Still very good.

For more traditional go for Down house. Some of the best classic chicken and waffles.

Also try Liberty kitchen. They do a spicy chicken and waffles. It sounds weird by it's good. They come with pickled jalapenos and a spicy syrup.

I think Barnabys does chicken and waffles, I can't remember for sure.

Anyway, try those.

It's been said already but Underbelly is fuckin awesome. Was in Houston for 3 days for work a few years ago and ate there everyday. I still think about it sometimes

Surprisingly there is a lack of Chinatown restaurants.

Chinese:

Mala Sichuan Bistro

Korean:

Japanese:
Tiger Den for Ramen
Sushi Miyagi
Izakaya-wa (near Town and Country)
Uchii
Gyu-Kaku

Tequila Lopez on HWY 6 South and Beechnut is delicious. My sister and I have eaten there for years and always order the same plate: Enchiladas Verdes. Great staff, too. I can't speak for the alcohol, but they have a bar as well.

Breakfast Klub is the worst breakfast in Houston. It's a meme restaurant if I've ever seen one and people literally only go there to seem cool for waiting in line for mediocre food in unreasonably huge portions. I hate that that restaurant is so popular and somehow it always makes its way to the tops of "Houston's Best's" lists. It's literally ihop tier.
>>
>>7300725
I don't know which part of town your in but:
Midtown

>Munich
>Some bar that starts with Dog, I can't remember the name

I hate loud pretentious places. Everything I listed besides Johnny Goldbrick is pretty low-key.

Why do people suggest chain resturants like Papas, cheesecake factory and other garbage?

not everyone is a hipster. It's nice to know which chains are in a city because they aren't everywhere. For example I was shocked to see there was no Moe's Mexican Grill in Austin.
