I have a question for you guys.
Do you think it's acceptable to leave extra parts off of fusion cosplays if you know it'd look better off without them?
For example, if you cosplayed Opal but didn't do her second pair of arms, or cosplayed Rainbow Quartz without the second pair of eyes. I feel like most of them don't translate to reality well and even the most well-constructed extra limbs end up looking off.

In my honestly opinion, if I saw a cosplay like that irl, I probably wouldn't ask for their photo. I feel like part of cosplaying fusions is that they are complicated, and just completely omitting limbs/eyes just seems like avoiding it because it's hard. Not saying that it makes the cosplay bad, just incomplete and not as good as someone who attempted arms/extra eyes. There are so many tutorials on how to have extra sets of arms and eyes.

You're free to your own opinions and to do your own cosplay, but it just loses a lot of impact to have a key part of the character missing. A lot of fusions have great arms (pic related), and it sounds like you're falling into uncanny valley when you say extra eyes look awkward. Of course they're never going to look 100% perfect because there's only so much that prosthetics/makeup can do, but it looks better than a Rainbow Quartz who simply skipped out on doing a difficult part of the cosplay.

And this cosplayer doesn't need a great one they just need an alright one that isn't uncomfortable, the new hourglass corset by TT is firmly in the area of "fairly good" when it comes to off the rack corsets. You will need to season or "break in" any corset you get before wearing it, and ideally before fitting your costume to it. This helps shape the corset to you and is an absolutely necessary step, if you don't do it you will run the risk of the corset breaking, being uncomfortable, and ruining the shape. Seasoning generally takes at least two weeks.

Yep, I'm doing tinydot for sakuracon and I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do differently now. I'll start posting wips here pretty soon. I'm really excited to cosplay Peri again now that we know a lot more about her!
So far I've discovered that layering about 10 socks gives a pretty good looking foot shape for her. Of course, my feet will be warm as hell but I'm willing to suffer a bit for it.

Tried some more color tests. I'm not very happy with how dark amethyst ended up (only one drop of blue dye is still pretty powerful, as it turns out) and I'm going to make garnet more pink/purplish but other than that they're almost ready to go. Ruby and sapphire will be more accurately colored too once I back them with colored paper. Peridot will be next :)

After seeing this i really feel like we should treat whatever's on Yellow Diamond's head like a helmet and not a wig. Styling a wig like this just looks ridiculous and it would have been better as a helmet, but styling a wig to look more like natural hair doesn't translate that much to YD
I just feel like a helmet made out of a semi-translucent yellow material with a short wig under it would look better. It's not 100% canon but sometimes you have to take liberties to translate things to real life.

I think a helmet could be easier and less time consuming to make look decent than a wig, but I believe a wig will look better if you put in the time and the effort.
I'm this Peridot >>8799674 and I feel that the method I used for that wig would work very well for YD. The problem with >>8809434 is that the hairline at the front and back don't fit properly/weren't glued down and the hair at the sides just stops awkwardly instead of tapering into a nice point.
So basically the method I recommend is make a foam base, cover with a layer of fabric, then cover with a couple layers of wig hair by using fabric glue and got2b. If anyone has any further questions I'd be happy to answer. I also plan to make a YD wig at some point (not cosplaying her, its just for fun and then I'll sell it)

Come on, one wig that has some flaws =/= scrap the idea of making it hair. This same argument happened with Peridot's hair when she first premiered, and now it's been proven that it's hair. SU characters just tend to have insane hair, whether it's Rose's huge mane or Peridot's triangle hair. Honestly it just seems like a cop out to go 'its shaped weird so it must be a helmet'. Plus, Jasper's helmet is super shiny, whereas YD's isn't

Sometimes shit just does not look good in real life. We do not have the materials or technology to translate certain aspects of cartoons into reality well.
Yellow Diamond's hair REALLY does not look like hair to me. It's way too helmet-shaped and solid. I don't think Peridot's hair looks like hair either but that doesn't mean I'm lazy and don't want to put effort into shit. It just means that it doesn't look like hair to me and that wigs styled like that also don't look good to me.

Well I mean you could certainly try to do a helmet instead if that is the type of look you prefer. My feelings about doing a helmet are similar to how you feel about doing an extremely stylized wig. I have just not seen a helmet look good for any SU character and can't picture it looking right. Would love to see examples if anyone has any though.
One problem I think the helmet method has is that it won't look like a part of your head in the way that it does in the show. With a stylized wig it has just enough of a natural look to not be totally out of place if you achieve a correct fit and hairline.
Alternatively, I do like some of the more hair-like interpretations such as the ones Gekroent has done.

Just got my shipment of paints in and I'm not sure if this will help, but here's a swatch in different lightings of berry wine on the top with rose pink on the bottom, the middle is a mix of the two. I feel like BW is a tad too dark, but would look better mixed with something lighter. Really packed the paint on though, as you can tell.

To be fair, the helmet that you linked was pretty shitty. I've yet to see one that's been done well because I don't think there's been enough time for most people who will do them well to do them, either because they have other things to do, or because of dropping money on materials right after the holidays, or whatever. But a helmet made out of a nice, sturdy plastic that's either opaque or slightly translucent would probably look pretty good.

But don't expect others to agree with you since it's not canon, don't expect to look better than YDs who actually attempted a wig, and don't expect people to follow suit. Left one is in daylight! It does seem pretty accurate but I'm not entirely too sure if itll actually look good on a face, especially while indoors the paint might look a lot darker.
