I have a ring just like this but not AP. The problem is that it wont go on any finger besides my pinkie. I can get it on my ring finger but it pinches the skin quite uncomfortably. I am afraid to try and pry it open because it might break since plastic is not flexible. Anyone have any solutions or tips for this?

when I was a kid we used to take those clear plastic toothbrushes, put them in boiling water, and then wrap them around our wrists to make bracelets. I'd imagine the plastic from the ring is similar, so try putting it under some warm/hot water and adjusting the ring to be open more. I wouldn't put it in boiling water just out of fear of damaging it, but hot water might work

Hope this isn't too off-topic, but I've been making jewelry for a while now and am looking to expand into jewelry specifically for lolitas, since I've started getting into lolita myself. Looking through this thread, I'm seeing a lot of OTT headwear and very detailed necklaces and rings. Is that what you guys are mostly looking for, even if it's very expensive? As for your question, I would say lolitas do love very unique and detailed things of high quality (good lace, not cheap peeling pearls, nice ribbon, etc). The more unique and interesting it is the better, especially if it follows a certain theme, like sweets, music, marine, etc. Many will buy even if it's expensive, especially if it's unique, but your biggest competitor is Taobao, which has a lot of these high quality accessories for cheaper.

Definitely unique pieces with high quality materials. Something simple like cabochon rings or hairbows, you can get five for a dollar on taobao, so lolitas who are experienced in the fashion won't go for them. (Although lolitas just starting out probably will, so if you're planning to table at conventions, it can't hurt to make some cheap simple things, too.) Price isn't as much as a concern for lolitas, as long as the materials are high quality enough to justify it.

I bought mine a few years ago now, and it's still it great shape. The felt material is super thick and sturdy, the stitching is really nice, and it's still holding it's shape.

You can wear it over or under a JSK and under a bolero, that way it looks like you're wearing a blouse without actually wearing one while still having your shoulders covered. You definitely can wear it over shirts that have no collars, though.

You can microwave a coffee cup of water and place the ring in after it's out of the microwave (for obvious reasons) and then let it sit. After it's warm just try gently tugging it a little larger. I've done this with many of my AP rings as they only fit on my ring fingers and since I'm married I have one I can use.

Put on a towel around your hand, put the bow part in your hand and make sure ots wrapped in the towel BUT just have the ring part out in the air, use a blow dryer on the second highest setting from far away and heat up the ring. Bend it to shape while hot with the towel or if you can withstand it (not safe thouh), use your bare hands. Aftef you are done quickly take it to the sink and have very cold water run onit to cool and set the shape.
Open the ring little a time and repeat as neccesarry since its more risky to open it wider in one go and ruin the shape than in small sets.

Details, high quality materials. Study, and well-made.
Glass beads over cheap bargin bin plastic beads. Though cute plastic beads are great with sweeter themed pieces but you don't want to grab the craft store $2 bag and use those. You'll probably be ordering them online. I like items where the person put time into designing and creating them rather than just quickly throwing stuff together assembly line style.
When it comes to food themed jewelry, I like them when the person put time into making something realistic and appealing. Anyone can make a basic polymer clay ice cream or cookie, but it needs to have detail, care and good attention to design when adding it to something, be it a necklace or even just a ring. Little details can go a long way.
