Larger girls tend to have a larger bust so they're going to gravitate towards Sonico. She's cute but people can be lewd at the same time. Pochaco isn't as well known and lots of people aren't going to embrace the chub especially if most of her outfits are mostly skin. I'd like to see people do her blue sweater outfit but everything else is pretty hideous. Sonico has a lot more variety and you don't have to bare too much.
Most other 2D girls have similar body types to actual Japanese girls and Sonico's body type would be a lot rarer everywhere else so it's not really fair to say small girls don't look real. Anyway she's somewhat chubby so I don't see the problem in larger girls cosplaying as her. You're pretty much saying they couldn't cosplay anyone smaller than her or themselves.

Also, the real landwales wearing sonico nearly always wear her most revealing stuff which mostly doesn't fit and shows part inappropriate to childrens eyes. I don't think they use her as an excuse to be fat but rather they see themselves as having the same body as her when it's not usually the case. Which is what you might have meant. It gives them confidence but then that can cause discomfort for people who tend to dislike overweight people.

I think the problem is there are so few fat characters in anime, or at least likeable fat female characters, which is understandable, the second one comes along that MIGHT be a little bit fat, fatties know that's the closest they are going to get to being accurate as a nice character and jump on it. To be fair, Sonico's not fat, but especially in the anime and by some artists, she does seem thicker than average. I've seen her drawn with a little love handle before. I think chubby Sonicos are excusable if their proportions are alright and their body types are closer to Sonico's than Pochaco's. So me and my sister would be almost perfect for Sonico and Pochaco (aside from me not quite having as much clevage as Sonico but I'm close enough) and I think it would be super fun to cosplay with her but I feel like Sonico is just so overdone and has become such a lazy basic bitch cosplay. I also wasn't a big fan of the anime. I watched two episodes and dropped it. I'm so conflicted about this. I know my sister would be more than willing to be Pochaco with me and it could be really fun but I just don't want to be one of the other 500 Sonicos at the con and I would feel weird if someone tried to talk to me about the anime when I didn't really watch it. If you like Sonico then just forget the anime. Say you like her as a mascot if anyone brings it up since that's what she has been for most of her existence. And if you're cosplaying with a Pochaco then I'd say it's the perfect chance to be somewhat unique in the sea of Sonicos that have appeared.
Do you have any outfits in mind for the two of you? Sonico's default outfit is quite nice but I guess that would be considered overdone. I don't even know if Pochaco has a default outfit or if it's just a white bikini. It would be cute if the two outfits looked similar but Pochaco doesn't have a huge range.
I can totally relate to people who hate the sailor moon crystal shit anime, but I don't understand why so many people hate the Sonic one. I actually love the fact that Sonico and her world are not magical girl bling bling crystal power activated, but that she's so average. It's surely not a masterpiece, but definitely something to watch when you want to calm down after a shitty day. There's not much of a plot so no need to follow the entire story as well.
Also one question to the people who've watched the entire anime: is pochako the black haired fat girl whom we see several times throughout the anime admiring sonico from afar? I mean in the last concert scene, she doesn't show up, but instead we see pochako, so maybe it's her? Like she admired Sonico and wanted to become cute like her so she bleached her hair or sth? I think a lot of people who hate on the show are the type to not watch a lot of SoL or ecchi anime. I thought it was fine, it's not like you would expect a lot of plot from a character like Sonico in the first place. Plus, it had that one roadtrip episode, which was an unexpected gem.
And yeah, I think it's been pretty widely accepted that that girl was Pochako.
Super Sonico is one of those characters that instantly makes any girl 50% cuter and sexier just by cosplaying it.

Where are you looking at buying them? There's quite a large selection to choose from so you could be spending any kind of amount and you can't pinpoint an average price unless you're looking at a certain figure. A bootleg figure can look a lot worse than a genuine and you can't confirm what it looks like unless there's some secondhand photos of it. I've seen some people here order figures off Taobao so I assume they'd be cheaper but every site like that is going to use official images of the genuine figure.

There's a list of every Sonico figure. Some may not be released or in production. People upload actual photos of the figure there so if you're buying a genuine figure you can then see what it actually looks like since some companies don't match their promo pictures. Also on some pages people upload photos of bootlegs they find.
With most figures you'll probably have to find them secondhand since they're no longer being made. Some websites might still have them in stock but it really depends on what you like. There's a lot to look through so it might help if you already have an idea of what figure you would want.
