I like my animu faces flat, and in the same time drawing figure and stuff with soft shading is just easier and more comprehencible for me than flat cellshading.
I'm yet to find ballance between flat and volumetric.
I think i should study works of AS109 or something to get a better idea how to combine flat and volume together, or something.

Sorry for tainting the thread but the discussion is interesting and we don't get as clear of a view of Rei's suit while unworn to get a sense of it's structure, so this is the best we got. In my view plugsuits seem to have a substructue around the ribcage and chest.

it's not a bad place for a studio apartment for a single person, especially if you like a modernist look, it's got good bones. Precast concrete walls are already better than the stud walls you find in most places. The problem is the noisy location and the lack of care. Get more light in, better fixtures and furniture and it could look like something by Tadao Ando. It still wouldn't be for everyone's taste, but I get the feeling it would appeal to her taste.

This is the only Rei picture I have.
I had a dream about Rei again.
We were in some kind of country house with Misato, Asuka and a few people from my job. I knew something was wrong, and was desperately running around the place looking for Rei, checking all the rooms and calling her name.
I finally found her alone in Asuka's bedroom, naked and around the corner as if she was hiding from someone. Rei was covered in scratches and bruises all over her skinny, pale body... We must have been really close, because I was running my fingers over her wounds while holding her really close and intimately. She was talking to me in a hushed, subdued but stern voice, like she was pissed off and close to crying, but I don't know what she was saying. She touched my face and we kissed romantically for a long time. I can still remember the smell of her hair and how soft and gentle her lips were.

I've always liked White Lie, happens right after Shinji got captured by Leliel, so amnesia plot is kind of believable, everyone is at least a little bit in character, even Gendo using the opportunity to repair his relationship with him makes sense considering that in EoE you find out he does regret being a bad father.
And the story happens after the moment in the series when you first see she has an attraction to him since she was worried for him the whole Leliel episode to the point she picked up a fight with Asuka because of it.
So Rei using the circumstances to have a relationship with him at that point seems well placed and cute as is her conflicted feeling about the morality of it. The art is also nice to look at and not overtly smutty for a doujin...

Anyway for all anons: for this summer among other things, I'm retaking a project I wanted to do since one or two years ago. Which is to model Rei's place.
But I'm having a little bit of trouble deciding on what my approach deciding the measurements should be since neither the floor plan gets me something a too small for some fixtures (entry door for example) while building it off the elevations gets me an apartment that's too big (the bed compared to her closet) I know the dimensions will have to be massaged a little bit and standardized (the grid for the concrete has different dimensions for each line, makes sense since these are just artistic depictions' but in reality you would seek to have some modularity).
Don't know if you'd be interested in bouncing off ideas, intentional discussion probably should be taken to /a/ but that's bound to only end in failure.

I did: A japanese single bed is 97 cm × 195 cm (38 in × 77 in) but I provisionally rounded it to 100cm x 200cm to account for her bed's metal headboard and foot-board.
But then you get some unusable, small measurements for some other stuff. her bathroom door would be 50cm (20" or 1ft 8 inches) that's unusable for a person to go through on a regular basis. Her tub is only 1.3m wide (52" or 4'4"), I guess you can forgive this one if you claim it's an ofuro but consider it shares room with a toilet and has a microdoor and that's a tight place.
And her closet doors are 40cm (16", that's a bit more forgivable but it's still tiny). And then there's the fact that her bed is not accounting for the fact that there's boxes behind it, if you make room for that then the bed bumps with the dresser. In short the floor plan layout doesn't have room for the actual layout you see on the show.
The perspective drawings do. but there's kind of the opposite problem with them...

The bottom floor plan is traced from her apartment floor plan as is. I chose to reference those particular dimensions because they can bye reasonably inferred.
an interior door, could be 80 or 70cm, 80 is preferably but you can work with 70 (technically you could work with 60cm but that's more of a closet door) instead you get a 45cm door.
Standard toilets are about 70cm deep, so at 75cm that one is an acceptable dimension.
Standard size kitchen counters are 60cm (or 2ft) deep. so at 55cm they're nearly there, but not quite.
And her bed like I said I rounded it up to 2m to account for the metal structure.
If you scale the bathroom door to reasonable 70m, you get a ±1.15m toilet, ±85cm counter top and a ±3.1m bed. so they end up being gigantic.
This on top of the fact that there are several incongruities between the floor plan and the perspective drawings from that same page; which means you simply can't reconcile one set of info with another one.
Here's what I mean, if you make the floor to ceiling height 2.7cm (9ft) you get a wall that's 6.2m wide, compare that with the previous picture where it is 3.5m. And her bed ends up being a gigantic ±3.04m
