Ah, it's understandable that one would mix them up! They do share many similar features - had the image hypothetically included hair clips like Yui's it certainly would've gone under the radar for me too! But all those little details put together just made it look off. As an aside, though, it's nice to see a relatively obscure character getting some love too!
Oh and for the OP picture, I'd prefer the current one anyway - cute and sweet!
