Anyone ever just flat out say no to a shift your boss schedules you for?

>deliver pizzas
>boss wants to schedule me for 3rd shift Sunday night even though that does not work with my schedule (usually I have stuff on Monday mornings)
>this week I have had plans for a month to do something with my buddy that night

Well I guess it's time to man up finally and take a stand. Not gonna miss a fun night for my minimum wage shitty job. Oh well, I guess it will kinda suck to leave this job with no reference but whatever. It's past time I got out and got a real job anyway. Anyone have stories about not being a cuck/slave to your boss to motivate me?
>>
1. Ask colleagues if they're available to cover your shift.
2. If not, tell your boss you can't do it.
3. If not, call in sick on the day.

In the UK, people do this shit all the time.
>>
>>1195362

Honestly wish more people would just leave their jobs and not put up with bullshit. If my employer makes me do anything like unpaid overtime or doing something that isn't in my job description they can get fucked.

If everyone did this, employers wouldn't have so much power. The gov will give you free shit anyway, might as well fuck over as many employers as you can and waste their money and time. But no, too many good goys shoveling shit and eating it with a smile on their face.
I became self employed because of this. OP just forget about the wage cuck life and develop and skill and make money from it. Doesn't matter if it's drawing furry porn or weaving baskets for a living, anything is better than doing a worthless job for these asshole companies.
>>
Avoiding work to hang out with your friends. This is why you're working at minimum wage.
>>
>>1195381

>wanting to foster relationships vs working for a soulless company doing useless work while customers laugh at how pathetic you are for working min wage

Oh gee, I wonder which one is better.

I would prefer people drop their shitty job to hand out with people because at least they are making others happy. Working some shitty job serving fast food is only making your Jew boss happy and making people fat. What a wonderful contribution to society.
>>
Yes. Before I started my shit job I let my employer know that I have other things to do in my life and she would have to work around it on the schedule.

It's a minimum wage job but whatever. Sometimes coworkers bitch and bitch that they requested x day off a month ago and didn't get it. Or when they beg for having some shift off and the manager just says "but we need you! you're on the schedule and you must work!" and they cave. Poor suckers. When I say I can't work something, there's no discussion, they know that I mean what I say.
>>
>>1195380
Why the fuck are you even on /biz/? You're the worst type of person.
>>
>>1195411

Keep crying wage cuck, if you had any initiative you wouldn't work under anyone else except yourself. You would think the business world would have taught you to have a little more self reliance.
>>
>>1195362

>saying to no shifts ever

It's like you're trying to stay poor. Holy fuck man when I worked those jobs I was the first guy my managers would call to fill missed shifts, let alone missed any assigned. I made more than anyone else working. And it came down to the fact I was reliable and busted my ass.

If I was your manager I would give incredible amounts of shit and make your life miserable until you just fucking quit and felt shitty about yourself and your life.

Get your fucking shit together.
>>
>>1195466
you sound pretty pathetic desu.
>>
>>1195466

And this is why wage cucks will never get anywhere in life. Keep kissing your boss's ass, I'm sure you'll get that 50 cent raise in 6 months!
>>
>>1195465

initiative includes seeing the big picture and knowing when to shut up and do what you're told because ultimately it's best for you in the long run. Stop being so short-sighted
>>
>>1195470

>working hard is more pathetic than ditching work to hang out with friends

top kek. What are, 17? Time for you to grow up and learn what it takes to make it in this life.

>>1195476

You don't get do you? The shitty job is never the end goal. It's something you do to help you get to the top. But if you shit all over it, you'll never be able to advance. Because no one likes entitled pieces of shit
>>
>>1195481

I only care about my clients and what I can do for them and my friends/family. Everyone else can fuck off.

"Shut up and do what you're told" holy shit, people really do love being herded like a bunch of bleating sheep, don't they?

I only get one life, and you think I want to waste it working as a wage slave? Even one year working an hourly job could have been used learning the skills needed to freelance or create something I can sell or make money out of. I would not waste any of my time having no skills but shutting up and doing what I'm told. Even a dog can do that much.
>>
>>1195495
Giving your work/boss that much control over your life is pathetic. Don't be such a little bitch.
>>
Do you need the job?
no: fuck it, say no to the shift
yes?
Can you find another job easily
yes?
Fuck it
no?
Go to work

Thanks for all your posts in this thread anon, I told my boss I can't come in. He probably won't do shit about it anyway. After this weekend I'm putting 2 weeks in. It's time to get rid of this crutch and get into something real.
>>
>>1195500

I'm glad someone else is pointing out this BS.

Being a wage slave teaches you nothing but waking up on time and doing what someone tells you. You should already know how to do this from your schooling.

If you need money, just learn an actual skill. Anyone out of high school working at one of these jobs is wasting their life and time, PERIOD.

I wouldn't even do one of these jobs even if I were desperate. I'd rather blame myself for making no money this month than living hand and mouth under a soulless company.
>>
>>1195500

The only bitch move is putting your "omg fun times" ahead of your responsibilities.

Look you made your little post looking for validation for your dumbass move. You're in the wrong place for that. This is /biz/. You can take your commie shit over to /lgbt/.

This is more than a night out. This comes down to work ethic, what kind of man you are and will be. I know you're young, maybe you don't have a dad. Someone should have taught you to be a man. And being means handling your shit without complaining or looking for a way out. This is bigger than this job. Your work ethic will define for jobs and studies to come. Now you can bitch out and be poor forever. Better for me I suppose, less competition. Or you can man up and achieve greatness. Its very simple
>>
it's all about how you do it

>aye mr boss im sorry but this shift doesn't work for me. can i have that day off

>yo muhfugga hail naw i aint comin in that late. my ass gotta sleep.

it's the curteous thing to do to tell your boss in advance, a lot of times they can reschedule you if you give advance notice and have someone else take your place.
>>
>>1195517

Glad you listened. Never let anyone tell you to bow to them, pave your own way and learn real skills. Go back to school if you have to or self teach and become your own boss.

This is a much better use of your limited time on this Earth than being a wage slave.

I'm still wondering how people on a business board of all places would just tell you to suck it up. What a joke.
>>
>>1195362
You need a proactive solution for being scheduled for undesirable shifts, rather than a reactive one.

Can't plan your life ahead of time with a regular day off?
Boss decided that the schedule next week is "show up on Monday, and I'll tell you if you're working"?

Solution: "I've got a night class!" AKA "Martial Arts Mondays"
You're not available on Monday evenings due to a martial arts class. Is there actually a martial arts class? Nope. You've had some before, so you could bullshit sufficiently. Choose your own personal development or hobby group.

Rebuttals:
>Can you skip it this week?
It's is an important part of me as a human being, and it's essential for my life balance.
Or:
I can't miss this week, because we're starting the 2nd part of the Tai Chi form.
>Can you move the day you do this on?
We only meet on Mondays.
>Well, I'm scheduling you anyway.
Proceed to be an asshole. Put on a ninja hood, use as much Japanese and Chinese as possible, and attempted to solve every problem by punching it for the duration of Martial Arts Monday.

After I did this, I never got scheduled on a Monday again.
Mind you, it didn't get me fired because I had a history of showing up on time and getting shit done for over a year - which is very uncommon in food service.

This is just sad. Men stand up for what they want in life. They don't just sit and take whatever their boss gives them just for the sake of "work ethic." Part of being a man is learning how to say no. I learned that the hard way when I just bowed down to every unreasonable demand my bosses said in my previous job and hated myself for it.

I hope you outgrow the fanaticism for work anon.Life is just too short. Remember employment is a negotiation on equal terms. You're a party in a negotiation between you and your employer, you're not just a slave who has to do what he is told.
>>
>>1195481
This thread sucks but I just came here to tell you you're a huge fucking cuck.

>knowing when to shut up and do what you're told because ultimately it's best for you in the long run

Good lord you are fucking pathetic.
>>
>>1195523

Work ethic doesn't mean a thing if you aren't learning any worthwhile skills.

Oh, but you say "people skills" and "connections" and "work ethic". A lot of buzzwords and maybes.

The only skills that matter are tangible ones, the ones that you can show others. You really think anyone is going to care how "friendly" and "good with people" or "hardworking" you are?

If you learn a real trade you have the skills to back you up and you will never have to suffer under this type of employment again.

And again, you really should have learned all this "work ethic", "be on time", "be polite" sort of thing by the end of high school. It's time to grow up.
>>
>>1195536

Have fun not being able to keep a job for longer than 6 months
>>
>>1195541

How sad is it that this is the only argument that wage cucks can come up with.

>have fun not learning to love the taste of shit!
>>
>>1195499
>I only get one life, and you think I want to waste it working as a wage slave?
I fucking like you. I'm launching a Kickstarter for a new product this summer with my brother, and literally every adult in my family and friends is saying "oh no you need to get a corporate job", "oh no you need to put that engineering degree to work with a real job", "you're probably not gonna make it, you should just get a job".

God damn it is so fucking irritating but when, not if, I start making it I'm going to rub it all over their faces. This is what you could've done, you could've started your own company, you could've built your own wealth, but you pussed out and drank the kool aid like a good fucking cuck.

Fuck that. Fuck em.

I'm never going to get a job in the first place. I will make my own, and I will be more successful than you. I really, very seriously hope you're just trolling and you don't actually think like that. If you actually do, please, please never post on this board again.
>>

I'm a pizza delivery guy too. Can confirm, this is how you so it. Don't do it too much, last "sick" day I got written up.
>>
>>1195380
Same here. I have a part time job on top of my full time job for cool story bro reasons I won't get into. I get a lot done and my attendance record is very good. But I've made it clear that my real job, doctor appts, etc come first. Part time just doesn't pay enough.
>>
>>1195465

>>
>>1195411
this. stopped reading after "deliver pizza".
>>
>>1195625

I'm not even OP and I actually own my way of living.

All I did was inspire OP to stop being a wage slave and do something with his life.

If anyone seriously supports working as a wage slave past high school to gain "work ethic" then maybe /biz/ isn't the right board for you. We're all here because we want to rely on ourselves and own our work.

Stop being pathetic and grow up, it'll do wonders for your life.
>>
>>1195380
Good. More jobs for people who understand work.
>>
>>1195718

>"understand work"

And yet again people don't understand the point of working in the modern day. We have the capability to be anything we want as long as we work hard.
So why would you waste your time working hard in a position that is has little upward mobility when you could have been doing something else or learning a skill?

Spending years building skills and a portfolio is a better use of your time. You aren't making money but you are investing your time to properly secure your future. The only thing working a wage slave job does is make you take longer to reach those goals and provide barely any compensation for your time. If I have a child then I will allow them to work one of these jobs while young but any adult working in a job like this is just sad. I'm shocked people on /biz/ just let others walk all over them like that and eat up shit. Grow a backbone and make your life your own.

That should be the message of this board, not "shut up and do what you're told". That's fucking terrible advice.
>>
>>1195519
>I wouldn't even do one of these jobs even if I were desperate
So being homeless is better?
>>
>>1195749
Wow you're long winded.
>>
>>1195754

You do know the government provides countless ways for anyone to go to schools for nearly free, right?

As for adults stuck in a situation like this, it is tougher to solve but staying in a wage slave job won't get you anywhere either.

Everyone needs to figure out their way so I can't give specific advice because I don't know what everyone's situation is.

You need to take charge in your own life and stop being complacent and using vague terms for your accomplishments. "Working hard", "work ethic", and all these terms mean nothing when you aren't getting no anywhere. You're just working to live. Doesn't that seem really sad? But if that's what people are okay with, then fine.

Go into sales or do anything but this wage slavery. That's all I'm saying here. Stop wasting away your one life doing this bullshit. If you even have one ounce of initiative in you, you'll make it on your own. If not, then you're just destined for wage slavery and you can be a good little slave like the rest of the robots.

Don't know why this would make anyone pissed off except when they realize they wasted years of their life working shit jobs when they could have done something else. But it does seem I hit a nerve.

the point is, live for yourself but make sure you know what you're doing when you're actually working.

>kek

Kek.

And this really is the most triggered thread I've seen in awhile. Wage slaves really hate being called what they are, which is ass kissers. But I actually am trying to help them, the more they see that they should stand up for themselves, the more things will change. I actually don't hate people working for wages, really. Half my family is in this position. I'm just fucking tired of seeing people put up with bullshit and backing it up with responses like, "it teaches work ethic". Get real. Working for a minimum or hourly wage is bottom of the barrel and you are selling yourself short if you put up with it. That's basically my main argument here.
>>
Daily reminder that if you get paid to make money for someone else, you are literally a cuck. Start your own business and even if you make the same bullshit money, you will be much happier.

Start saving your dick sucking money to get it if the ground.
>>
>>1195380
this right here. have some self-respect. your employer doesn't owe you anything past the work you do for the wage you negotiated and same goes the other way. i never call anyone my "boss." im just here to make someone money and take my cut
>>
>>1195362
>Anyone ever just flat out say no to a shift your boss schedules you for?
Yeah, just 5 hours ago, to be exact. She schedules me for Tuesday & Thursday which I physically can't do cuz class all day long. I didn't even get to the point of using the word no & she said "Don't worry about it. I'll find someone else to cover it." Supermarkets are pretty lenient w/ students.

This thread holy shit.

I agree that work is a part of life, any damned if you think it's the single most important part. There are more important things than a shitty pizza delivery job, and if I've planned a month ahead of time to do something, I'm not letting some shitty schedule stop me from hanging out with people I care about because the Johnsons couldn't be damned to pick up their own fucking food.

I recall my first summer job I had, my family went on vacation for the first time in over 5 years. I didn't get to go because I couldn't get the scheduled time off, and my parents wouldn't let me tag along with 'em because "work comes first".

Well all I got from that was an extra $120 from my shitty min. wage job at the cost of missing the last family vacation there'll be with my whole family. Shit isn't worth it.

I'm looking for a different job now, even, to finish school but I'll realistically never find one. I can't mend the two schedules together, and you'll get fired for wanting to do shit else but work at a dead end job. It's ridiculous.

Just say no to the shift and keep working there.

You're not obligated to take a shift that you weren't originally rostered for.
>>
>>1195362

> saying no to management

Didn't start doing it till my late 20's.

I got hired at one job where I was told shifts would usually be 9am - 3pm. Once I started working I realized we were gonna be there till 4pm or 5pm regularly.

There was one day where it was 6:30pm and we were still working. I walked up to the boss and said, "I'm going home now". He was like, "what why?". I just said, "I'm tired and I'm going home".

I quit 2 weeks later.

Felt good. Jobs come and go. Never let yourself be taken advantage of, because if you do managers usually will.

You know what working hard does for you at a minimum wage job? It makes you a pushover. I learn that real hard when I was young, and they tried to fuck me over with it.

For all my otherminimum wage jobs I had, I did enough of the job that they couldn't fire me unless I fucked up hard, but not enough for it to be a double-edged sword.
